My Name is Mayo IS shovelware and it being the first doesn’t make it less so or because people don’t want to see it so. People can hunt what they want but when someone brags about how many plats they have and its majority shovelware I just think to myself “what is the point? Do you even care about the journey and satisfaction of achieving a platinum or just care about that dopamine hit?”
I've actually haven't heard that argument in a while but I completely agree, I don't understand how some people can say My Name is Mayo isn't shovelware just because it is a bit more thematic and has a few more minutes of gameplay..
@@pocketmonsterhuntr Actually, both! I think both are very important, and shovelware ruins them. It eleminates the journey and puts you right at the destination!
Look, shovelware or no, I'll defend the Mayo series as pretty good "quickie" games. Yes, they are a cheap source of trophies. But they are at least (a) well made, (b) not ashamed to be what they are, and (c) actually funny. Worth risking my "gamer card" to have all their platinum trophies on my profile.
Have you actually played my name is mayo? All 3 have hilarious stories if you take the time while playing and read the quick bits. I play games people call shovelware. I enjoy each game I play and make sure I get the value out of it. Don’t hate on something you don’t understand the player perspective. Yes there are click games that seem pointless but honestly just because something is cheap or seems quick doesn’t make it less. There is a Christian developer who makes games that would be classed as “shovelware” but I love the messages they place in them and how many people get positive messages off of it.
I like trueachievements alot because it has stats for how hard each achievement is, based on how many people play vs unlock an achievement. It means you can gauge how hard the games people play on average are. Someone who plays alot of shovelware will have a TA score closer to their actual gamerscore, someone who plays harder games will have a TA score close to double their actual gamerscore. This is on xbox btw, I think there is a trophy version of trueachievements though. I stopped caring about ranks and started caring about my own personal stats, I recently reached a completion percentage of 50% (53% now) and am working on completing games from my backlog. Focusing on other people’s stats feels pointless, so in general I really don’t care what games people play, if they want to get loads of shovelware completions and waste their time and money, it doesn’t matter.
Same way PSNP can hide shovelware games from the main page, it should be possible to hide it from the counter of the leaderboard. Worst of all, shovelware being allowed to have a platinum trophy it's beyond me. Gotta leave with that. If someone surpasses me in the leaderboards as a shovelware collector, I simply laugh and move on 😆
These kind of people don't pay money to play games, they pay money for platinums. Same kind of people that spend 10 bucks for an upgrade from PS4 to PS5 version to auto-pop all the trophies. I will never understand it. I'm a trophy collector myself, but thank GOD I'm not as addicted to trophies as those people.
My perspective is that if you want to have platinum's, play games you enjoy and if it's Shovelware, that's fine too. I understand the want of have many trophies and hearing that satisfying "pop" icon. Shovelware isn't the issue in this instance, it's the leader boards for PSN profiles or other websites alike. I think the issue here is they're not maintained or updated frequently (I mean features not the trophies tracking that occurs every 6 hours). I think if you have a certain amount of Shovelware you're account should not be considered for being top of the ladder. Perhaps your account is shadow banned? Shovelware for some is literally because they want to fill in any gaps. I have 70 platinum's (I am guilty of have 10 or so of them being Shovelware). But the rest of games that I played, took time in and enjoyed (Like the Mafia games, The Last of Us Part 2, Spider man...). In my instance, I love having game after game at 100%, I find it satisfying. But I don't care about leader boards. I think it isn't an issue. Just think these leader board websites need to begin doing better maintained of what they deem "acceptable" to be in the top 10, 100, 1000 or 10,000 of platinum players. Note: I used PSN and Platinums as an example because I don't play on Xbox or Steam but acknowledge there is an issue there too.
Definitely agree with you, I think most of them are just scared of how a community filled with people who are hugging the top of the leaderboard with shovelware would react to a drastic change like that!
Guilty as charged in the last month. I've decided to play all my extremely short games and some of them were shovelware, like Zup! or qop and such, although they do have fairly complex puzzles, I picked them initially for the achievements to decorate my profile and not for easy completion.
There should definitely be a toggle switch PlayStation profiles to hide all shovelware games on the platform. It would be difficult to review every game though and decide if it should be considered shovelware or not so maybe they should leave it to the community and if a game has over 50% of votes saying it is shovelware it’s added to that category, there could be a place on every game where you vote yes or no to shovelware and you can see a live percentage of what the community thinks. Also could have a small icon with a gray platinum and a shovel in front to show how many shovelware games a player has as a badge of shame.
steamhunters main leaderboard is based on points so you can finish either dark souls or 150 games with a global 100% completion rate for the same amount of points. It sounds like playstation players want something similar.
Wait, you're actually a genius, I had never thought of converting SH's system into psnp but you're absolutely right, it is indeed perfect, a system that can atribute points to achievements and trophies in regards to a formula that calculates eligible players, trophy owners and trophy rarity would indeed be a perfect solution...

I fully agree. What matters more to them? , the journey or destination

Absolutely, but most probably nothing is going to be done :/
