yep, solids vs surfaces is a bit of a paradigm shift in how you think.. Very generally speaking, Solidworks is like making a model out of blocks of foam, Rhino is like making models out of paper.. keep that in mind and you'll do great.
.AI files will open in rhino, BUT... illustrator curves are often poorly formed for modeling ..I'd 100% recommend running rebuild on those imported curves before using them.
Thank you for this video! I recently bought Rhino 7 and I'm trying to figure out the new SubD command. Would love to see more videos of all sorts of Ring designs. Could you please comment with links of any videos you have done on SubD engagement rings etc :)
This is something I've been looking for. many thanks for sharing Kyle! Btw, is it ok to mix-up NURBS and SubDs in an object? Is there any problem with that?
I use the default UI, with the exception of the tools i have in my pop up menu. to edit your pop up, (on pc) dock it by wiggling the title bar then copy tools to it as needed.
@@LlewynDaviesTheThird it's a topology project for sure, you'd want a face for the pillowed areas, and a face extruded back that make up the seams. making a small section then copying it would save some time. I'd start by making a flat panel with eth correct topology, then project its points to a shape, then I'd extrude the seams inwards and adjust. I'd start here- ua-cam.com/video/BdEoVqBIfJE/v-deo.html it will give you a good foundation in subd. you can also always click on a piece of geometry and see what it is in the command line.
Pls Upload A video On Importing Autocad Files For Architects and Interior Designer In Rhino (Feet Inches Scale) I Have Been Struggling With It For Long.
@@ALSAHAFI13Yes I Did Try It Long Back, But The Scale Of Project Changes Automatically, Like 4' Wide Window Becomes 8' , All Dimensions Change ,That's The Problem
@@kunalagarwal4716 There's a workaround. In AutoCAD, create a graphic scale. Then, after importing to Rhino, rescale the drawing according to the graphic scale.
@@ALSAHAFI13 Okay Thank you very much , i will definitely try it and it you know . (I don't know what is graphic scale in autocad, but still i will try) Can u upload a video on it, Importing autocad files in rhino is accurate scale pls .
It's always fun to see how others do the same thing with different method, thanks for sharing!
I've used SOLIDWORKS for about 8 years now and learning Rhino is like a whole different language. Nice video

Another great tutorial.
What about if i edit the curves first from adobe ilustrator and extrude them in rhino, what kind of file should i use? Svg?

Thank you for your great tutorial, may i ask what's the differences between EdgeSrf and Sweep2?
sweep 2 has continuity controls, edgesrf does not and requires matchsrf to get continuity as a secondary process.

No problem at all! Use the best tools for the job! You can always convert subd to nurbs (or not) and work with them how you see fit.
@@Rhinoceros3d Appreciate it. A big fat question mark in my mind has just gone away! Looking forward for more videos.
Thanks for the video, I just downloaded Rhino7 90 trial and I was wondering how I set up my interface so its easier to follow along with your videos?

Actually, this video is about SubD versus NURBS. By the way, some command names disappear from the command prompt before I can read them.
Can you show us an example of Subd modeling Upholstery couch with subd?
HIt our forums with some pics of what you are trying to make, and we'll be happy to suggest some workflows-

Yeah a button back Chesterfield sofa would be an interesting one. I’ve done it in nurbs years ago. But should be a lot easier in SubD I imagine

As polka23dot already mentioned... there seems to be a typo in the title. Should be SubD instead of Sud. :-)
Fixed, thanks!
How do i know if I am modelling in nurbs or subd (fair warning : total newbie here)

Type "Import" then select the AutoCAD file. Rhino can read dwg files natively.
