At the last tweaking a star point pops up in the middle of the seat … this is because of Reflect ! I would have chosen to put reflect from the begining about X axis before starting all these deformations The issue with SubD offset that it does not keep the same thickness everywhere, specially at the tight corners …. You can see that if you apply clipping plane along the middle spine
yep.. you can fix the star point by removing the reflect and simply stitch those verts together- Subd Offset is not a perfect offset. If you need that, I'd convert to nurbs and use the nurbs offset tool set to loose= no.
@@FromFoodToFlesh no great way to share that in yt- email me at tech@mcneel.com attn: Kyle and I’ll send it to you. Or pause the video and grab a screen shot if you want it now.
Hey, Kyle. You're as good as ever. Why don't you use grasshopper in any of the videos on the channel? There are some videos from Gerard Petersen on the marine theme on UA-cam and McNeil forum (which are also good in their own way), but those lack your sparkling humor and charm. May be in the new video you make some kind of collaboration SubD/Gh and you beloved "lie, cheat & steal" formulae, mmm?
Thanks for that- very much appreciated. Honest answer? my dirty little secret is GH continues to befuddle me.. For whatever reason I can't get my head around how to "think" in GH like I can "think" in rhino... you need to be able to think like a programmer and know the result you want and then program your way back to that result. I have an art background with zero programming experience, and my creation method is best described as "FAFO". (which is quite clear from any of my videos... ;-) This style doesn't seem to work well with GH, so I keep hitting a wall. I keep picking at it hoping for a breakthru, but so far it eludes me. Maybe I'm old, or lazy, or some combo of the two, but I have not been able to crack into it in any way where I can get useful traction. maybe it's up to me to breakthru on my own and create a series for people like me (old, lazy muppets) That dirty laundry now aired, I am always open to collaborative videos with people who can help make us all better at creating wonderful things. finnished this build my self in V7 and did not really find a need for V8 for this build, so do a asume correct that V8 has a lot of quality of life upgrades compared to V7 ? meaning commands work better and can understand more complex geometry.
push pull is a v8 feature, as well as shrinkwrap. And it's built natively for mac silicon so it's finally fast for mac- Also there are some gumball improvements in v8 that I'll cover in a later video.
@@Rhinoceros3dpush and pull tool, that you used in this tutorial, i understood it as its a tool you can use to push or pull a face normal to the direction its going, if its not set on a 90 angle, and i quess also push or pull objects normal to the face they are drawn on ?
fillets are circular and look pretty mechanical IMO.. Blends are based on continuity and look better to my eye. I also use blends instead of fillets on surfaces for the most part...same reason.
Thank you Karl. That was very educational. Rhino 8 is the way forward.
the "command" box merged into the left sidebar is so neat. Is this only available on Mac or can do the same on Windows?
Great video and great job, thanks !!
Glad you liked it!

Can you provide a link to your initial hand sketch?

Shouldn't you be using slide rather than free form moving the edges to get surfaces out of subd?
Slide is an option when the edges are aligned like you want. In this case you are right, slide would have worked.
I just wish rhino8 would allow me to set my own keyboard shortcuts!!
Isn't this possible in Preferences / Aliases?
When is the rhino inside revit supporting rhino 8?

Did you use procreate for the chair sketch?
procreate is awesome, but I used sketchbook pro for that one.
hey, was wondering what are your macbook specs
I'm using a 1st gen m1 max mac book pro with 32 cores and 64 gb ram.

@@tossuvaras2171 you can set the pull direction , it will merge the faces if they are Coplanar, it will make a new face if they are not.
