    Had my ED XR6 converted to manual years ago. Was a completely different car, so much better. Have only driven manual vehicles since.

      Really making me want to convert mine now! Mal Wood sell a clutch pedal pin kit for manual conversions now, so saves having to remove the whole dash to replace the pedal box, so makes it much easier to convert these things now.

      @@efxr6538 At that point in my life I was very new to cars and had it done by a mechanic. However now I wouldn't hesitate to DIY. Hardest part is going to be getting the old box out and new one in without the car on a hoist, but still doable on jack stands in a pinch.

      Yeah, I got a quote of $2000 to supply and install everything back in 2020, should have done it then! Now the same place said $1800 just in labour, but I have to supply everything, as full T5's conversions are hard to find these days.

    Most likely as simple as replacing the S5 solenoid, which is about $200 or so. Very easy to replace, can be done with the car on ramps at home. This plus a new fluid flush (ONLY use Castrol TQ95) will get this auto good as new. This is particularly the case when it's fine when the fluid is COLD - but when you've been driving a little while and the fluid warms up and thins out then the thump comes in.

    • @efxr6538
      @efxr6538  13 днів тому +1

      Thanks for the advice, this is what I want to hear! I was thinking that just replacing the fluid might help a lot, so maybe try that, just do it myself at home.

    • @mihali9655
      @mihali9655 13 днів тому +1

      @@efxr6538 replacing the fluid will definitely help. It’s worth a shot to just replace the fluid and filter first, and install a standalone auto transmission cooler.
      Now you must ONLY use Castrol TQ95 for this job. Usually one of the major auto parts retailers has it on special and because you live in Geelong you have access to all of them. A filter kit is like $20 on eBay, it comes with the filter itself and a rubber gasket to seal the pan.
      There are multiple videos on how to do this on UA-cam but the only one which is CORRECT is by MotoringBox. His video is for an AU, which will be exactly the same except that if your EF is a pre-January 1996 build it will have a transmission dipstick which is even easier to deal with because you can fill the box with the car on the ground.
      After the auto has all new fluid, give it a run for a few thousand kays and if she’s still thumpy then replace the S5 solenoid.
      Easy done, nothing is tricky on these Falcons, the Facebook groups have a lot of whiners who complain about everything. You should have heard the bitching and moaning about replacing the starter motor, but it’s an easy half an hour job!

    Great content, there, mate.
    Converting this to a T5 - 5 speed manual would be a great idea.
    I would even possibly consider doing that to my AU Falcon SR sedan - T5 - 5 speed manual.
    But I don't know what my plans are going to be at the moment because I do have quite often different ideas. So I will leave it be at the moment.

Was going to turbo mine, so that's why I've left the auto in as long as I have, but I'm building a new house now, so probably won't have the kind if cash required to do a proper turbo set up for a while, so maybe manual is the best option!

    Buy a TKX 5 speed instead, normal T5s are kinda shit for how much they cost. TKXs are basically a smaller T56 Magnum, has the same synchros, end loader, etc. You can also use a cable clutch & cable speedo, as well as your normal hydraulic clutch and electric speedo. At least you can pull it out later on and re-use behind a V8, turbo Barra, etc and not regret having a POS OEM T5. If you're trying to drift any of these gearboxes though, you *will* fk them eventually. I always suggest a G-Force dogbox for that tbh. You're playing around with a couple grand difference in $. I'm biased though because that's what I did to side-step all the clapped out rubbish on Marketplace. Pulling it out of the box for the 1st time and hearing, feeling it clink into gear, I finally understood lmaoo.

    • @efxr6538
      @efxr6538  11 днів тому

      A TKX would be awesome, but they are around $6k just for the box. I should be about to get a full T5 conversion for around $1k to $1.5k I think. Would differently love a TKX though! 👌
