Do not be surprised at all if this car hits 1 million Ks and is still going strong. Ford's straight 6 cyl engines have proven time and time again to be extremely reliable. I saw an EL taxi that had unfortunately been in an accident and it had just over 900.000 Ks on it. And my Uncle owned an XB falcon wagon with 3 on the tree manual and it almost made 1 million Ks in the 35 years it was on the road. It was the body that let it down. If you could put the engine and gearbox in another car it would have just kept on going.
Always been a Holden man, the el though was my favourite falcon. It looked good, had many great colours, especially that pearlescent green. I must say old cars of any persuasion, regardless of brand that are in awesome condition always make me smile. This is old school 😎

i Loved my EL, i went through 2 gearboxes and 2 Diffs towing stupid loads and doing burnouts but the engine never let me down once! id still have it to this day if the 'A' pillar wasn't completely rusted out (i dont mean a few spots here and there but i mean completely rotted! btw; the EL was ment to end in 97 and be replaced by the AU, only problem is was that the AU wasn't ready until the end of 98 so the EL had to soldier on, but Ford Australia had already started producing AU engine parts so the 98 EL was built using AU engine bits & pieces on an EL Block and this engine was known as the EL "Hybrid" they were once very much sort after since those "bits & pieces" made the engine a lot tougher and could handle boost more effectively. and you didn't have to swap in an AU engine into your EL

Still drove fine even with the guard mashed against the tyre but i really didn't see the worth in repairing it so scrapped it. Was a solid car even with 500 on the clock, probably most reliable iv ever owned.
With 2 simple brackets spotwelded on the entire AU IRS subframe bolts straight up. The front k-frame is also a pretty straightforward affair, plus a barra if you wanted. Depending how you sourced the parts the engineering would be the most costly part... So you could have this with a modern double wishbone setup, big brakes and big power if you put some time in, they have potential. Or you could just buy an IRS AU like i did and get the added VCT, but they arent nearly as sexy inside or out. you wouldnt do it to a nice one, but a cool build idea.... I also call my intech "Grandaddy Barra". They still make really good power quite easily like the Barra, also sound better imo. With DOHC Barra revs higher and makes more power though.
Woohoo!! An EL Xr6! That’s so rad about the 552,000kms, usually anything past 300,000 they suffer severe clear coat pealing. This makes me so happy, thanks Ross for taking the time to make these videos 🙏
I think he has fixed a couple of patches of clear coat peel over the years, but most of the car is still original paint I believe. My EF is 27 years old and done 300,000km, only a bit of clear coat peel on my rear spoiler. As long as they are garaged over night, cleaned regularly and occasionally get a coat of wax, they hold up ok. Most car probably don't get that care from each owner over a 25 plus year period though I guess! haha

I owned a 1994 EF Falcon XR6 Series I 5-speed manual brand new until April 2002 when it was stolen, at the time it had 220,000km and was running very well, the major issues with it were broken timing chain at around 120,000km ( October 1999) and front suspension shocks failed (June 2001), all I did was basic maintenance like oil/oil filter change every 10,000km and did major upgrades like plugs. leads and changed the coil pack (yes the EF versions had coil packs whereas the EL switched back to electronic dizzy) every 50,000km. I love the very direct steering and Tickford did a great job on the suspension to keep it all tied down on the road, I upgraded the rims from the standard 15x7 alloys (205/65) to 16x7 which allowed me to have 225/60 tyres on it which made the steering even more direct while also fixing the rear end roll-oversteer that the EF were know for even with Tickford suspension. When the police found it it was a burnt out wreck and the door, bonnet and boot lid and front seats were missing, I mean steal the car have your fun with it but don't destroy it afterwoods. the insurance pay out was quick and I bought a 2002 Ford BA (yes its code was BA) Escape XLS which I held onto until 2013, that 3.0L V6 Ford engine was a screamer.
I always bought a new Ford every year in the 90s, I remember when the 98 XR8 Ute came out I traded my 96 XR6 ute for a red manual XR8 ute and what a car, the 98 ute was the best ute I have ever driven, 185kW but light, power to weight was great and handled amazing. These cars are sort after now because they were so good in the day.

Wow. This car is mint! 8.1 0-100 for a half million km engine is fkn awesome. My NA BF Ghia ZF6 does it in 7.8 so it can probably beat my car on a good day/run!
That's a really nice Falcon. But I would like to ask where the hell is everyone? The buildings make it look like there should be a fair amount of people around.
the Fluids and Filters must have been changed at half the interval to what Ford stated. Like Engine Oil and Filter changes 5000km instead of 10,000km. Rear Diff Fluid changed every year instead of 2 years. Brake fluid and coolant changed every year instead of 2. Transmission fluid and filter every year. Air filter changed every 6 months, cabin filter changed every year, Fuel filter changed in 12 months over 2 years and spark plugs changed 3 years instead of 6.
Oil and filter every 8-10k. K&N filter cleaned and oiled same deal. No cabin filter. Gearbox oil, spark plugs, fuel filter roughly every 60k, diff oil more like every 100k. Brake fluid when it gets rotors.
Nice car. It's definitely had the paint done. It's just not possible to hit 500k with the paint in that good condition considering how ferocious our sun is.
Yeah has had bits painted over the years. Twice on the front end due to stone chips. Never all at once though. 3x doors and boot still original. One day a full respray to get it better than new will be in order.

Unfortunately there was never an EA XR6, but believe it or not ford did build 1 EA mock up GT fitted with a 351 cleveland which was paraded in motor shows to get a feel for what the public thought of the return of the GT badge before the release of the EB GT.
Wow I’d love to see that! I’m yet to drive an EA (have done a EB tho)
It's a mad old cruiser man & I like the look of them with the little round headlights,a mate of mine had one & it drove really nice & this one here with half a million ks lol & in that condition the owner is a legend, excellent review I loved it Johnny cheers.
I miss my 97 EL XR6 manual it only had 145000 when I had to sell it.😪
i've got a 96 ef fairmont wagon that i stuck a 2000 au vct engine in it it beat's all v8s and all 6ers with turbos or not
The VCT engines are weapons eh
I think you are talking out of your rear Derrick.💯
A little optimistic but nice car!
*_amazing condition👏🏼congrats to the owner_*
hes really done well eh
My old girl has one that is same as that one but auto it's mine one day stored in a shed most of its life she got it given to her from her doctor what a score they look so good standard
EL xr series had to be one of my fav shapes coming from a gm boy
I rate them too eh
I feel like this straight line curved design is becoming trendy again with cars / the new Camry seems to be very reminiscent of this generation of e series cars and Taurus’s / slap some leds on this car and I think it would still look modern and new
I've been waiting for this video 🎉🎉
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@RossReviewsau keep up the good videos!!
Still wish I kept mine.
Probably would've had similar kilometres by now.
My father bought it brand new.
She's still got plenty left in her yet...my VR Commo must have close to 500,000kms...the odo stopped at 385,000kms a couple years back
Awesome! I reckon with the new head she’s good for a million now
😢 man.. reminds me of my dad red FALCON XR6 EF
Before i watch, advice to you, stop with the red piping on your thumbnails, as it looks like ive already watched the vid, and definitely stop the open arm shmee150 style posing. Cheers. Nice work otherwise.
LOL no red piping on EL XR vid haha nice
Wow. This car is mint! 8.1 0-100 for a half million km engine is fkn awesome. My NA BF Ghia ZF6 does it in 7.8 so it can probably beat my car on a good day/run!
not bad considering eh
EL & BA best two ever made and best looking hands down.
love a good b series BF for me tho
EF just slightly better than the EL! ;-). Do love an ED too!
It’s got another 100 in it mark 💯
Easily 🥸
That's a really nice Falcon. But I would like to ask where the hell is everyone? The buildings make it look like there should be a fair amount of people around.
Industrial area on a Sunday 🤣 ghost town for reviews 😎
I dont get why the XH ute , is not on your list there the same motor , im second owner to mine
I havnt seen an ed sprint for a while or an ea s pack.
One of the best falcons made being of the manual type I have two factory manual xh xr6 Utes 🎉
The manual XR6 is a weapon!
Ford definitely had the E series sorted by the end
they nailed it i think
Need to do an eb manual
Amazing stuff 😮
Glad you think so!
the Fluids and Filters must have been changed at half the interval to what Ford stated.
She would easily hit a million with that routine
That thing is going really well for the KMs
Absolutely does
@@RossReviewsau it's what they were made for
Love your channel!
Thank you so much!
Add a hairdryer then she will really spin with not much other changes !
Come review mine next time you're in Victoria!
Appreciate it man
Bits and pieces the owner said
Taxis exceeded 1 million k's in one of these without breaking a sweat. Solid vehicles that will never be made that way again
I hope to show a million km one off soon
I really looking forward to owning one of these beauties.
👌
# Not an Intech Ross, they started in the au. Later model el engine's are known as hybrid's but not an intech. 👍
Appreciate the info
very nice Falcon!
beauty eh
Good video Jono,I found an EL XR6 1997 Falcon on Carsales here in Melbourne its in immaculate condition and done 181,000K priced at $19,000 excl govt charges.Would that be a good price for that car?
On the high end $
Depending on condition but a nice one can claim 20k I’d say
Amazing condition on that XR6.
credit to the owner
Mint!
el falcons were one of the models to win bathurst - interesting fact
Really 😈 I like it even more
its the crown vic of australia lol
👑
My barra is at 400 000kms. I'll try and get you a million kms in 10 years 🤣
good shit!
Yellow cabs Brisbane ran them to 800,000klm
id love to see a million km one
I have an EF xr8 in the same heritage green. Fantastic cars in 6 or 8 form.
I may be putting it up for sale if anyone’s interested
It had a great instrument cluster. The ba to fg were crap
Want one in a white ute thanks.
how good would that be
Thanks for the awesome videos mate, would be good to meet you sometime in Perth🤙 always wanted a Falcon 6 and made the decision to buy one when I move over east
Mines about to hit 300k
Epic
Half a million kilometres.. those Ford straight sixes are just getting broken in..!
Best engines
