I visited a friend with a tripaw cat once. The cat limped over to me so pitifully to be petted and fussed over. Later we watched him through the window rocketing around the yard as fast and agile as any four legged cat. The cat had figured out how to scam new visitors. Clever cat!

Have you ever seen the clip of the dog who drags his lifeless rear legs over to tourists to get free food, then stands up and runs off on four healthy legs to eat somewhere else?
@@SableCatDog Dogs are actually known for sometimes faking injuries for attention. Our poodle learned that limp inducing paw splinters or stickers got him lots of love and fuss, and he took advantage of that just enough to not over do it, and fool us every time.
Our girl correctly identifying WHY he doesn’t like the nails being done just saved his owners a lot of future stress. Good job!
Absolutely agree with ya. Having a leg missing and not being able to balance probably had the little one worried about falling. Great to see Vanessa help the owners identify what is needed for their beloved furry friend to be okay.

I heard a vet once say "I believe dogs are born with 3 legs and a spare" after he had to sadly remove a dog's leg after a car accident. And that really stuck with me, as I've never met a three legged dog that wasn't thriving.

I have been privileged to have loved two fantastic tripaws, both lovely girls, never to be forgotten.
Wild. I thought it was common knowledge that three-legged dogs need extra care to make sure the remaining limb doesn't suffer from having to compensate, especially as they age. Dogs cover pain, so of course they'll usually seem "fine"?? But obviously it's extra work. If three legs was a good body plan some animal would have evolved it. Everyone is in such a rush to coo over the animal and compensate for some imaginary hatred or pity they're acting foolish saying dogs don't need their legs. Insanity.
I don't know why you'd let a 3 legged cat roam freely. I don't agree with cats roaming unless they are part of a catch and release program, but a disabled cat?

A neighbour at our summercottage has a big tripod cat hunting around our cottage. It’s not so cute as it dosen’t stop him from decimating the local birds.

We have one in our neighborhood. She’s an indoor-outdoor kitty and is long-haired to boot. Her owners got her a lion cut in September/October last year, right before it started to get really cold in Colorado. She was looking matted before the cut, so I was actually glad to see it, but she must have been chilly as it got later toward November.

@@kelleyjones2285 Don't underestimate a hale and hearty tripod kitty's ability to do what it was bred to do. We had one and he had no problem taking small critters out.
I don’t know if you read comments, but if you do, just wanted to say you are awesome and inspired me to find a unique way to help animals in shelters find homes. I’m an artist, and after some networking, found a local shelter (rural Pa) that is willing to let me draw some of their fur friends and share the art and the animals info to hopefully help them find homes. Im starting with the senior ones first. I hope it helps and they can get a loving family. Your efforts inspired me to have the gumption to try to think outside the box to help animals. Thank you for being so awesome and doing what you do. 💜 (love, from a fellow Vanessa)

Aw, sweet boy.
We have a tripod dog (lost a rear leg when she got hit by a car, I think), and she's so sweet. My former neighbors had said they wouldn't have any more cats after losing their previous ones, but they took in a stray with a badly healed front leg and they got that amputated and now that cat is so much happier as a result.
He’s just beyond precious! Aww, I bet with those giant ears he can hear me gushing over him all the way over here in Australia haha
I took a break from your videos in early september due to my 15 year old fluffer doggo being put to sleep, as his old age was making him suffer with awful runny stools, constant exhaustion, and he was getting very bad cataracts, and he would sometimes not eat, and drank too much water. after that, life got more confusing and hard for me to deal with until just last month, but now i'm ready to watch your content again, even if there's always an empty hole in my heart
I know it's hard to lose a furry friend. I lost many while growing up due to old age. Dogs who loved running around and licking my face and cats who helped me feel warm and comforted after a session or two full of frustration and stress from work or inspire me to write stories. Know that your furry friend is no longer in pain and is roaming happily is Heaven. Here's a few hugs to help along the way.🫂🫂

Most of us here know how hard it is losing a furry friend. When you are ready though, another doggo or pet will bounce their way to you, to give you companionship and love. Just open your heart, and while they will never replace the one you lost, they will still be wonderful companions in their own way.
You wouldn't like your feet lifted either, if you were a tripod. Minimum number for stable footing. What a cute drool-machine.

My middle sister has a tripod dog named Watson. He was found as a stray in Italy (my middle sister was in the Navy and traveling a ton) and we assume he got hit by a car and his leg was badly injured to the point where it had to be amputated. He was terrified of humans at first but after he and my middle sister moved back to the USA he got used to other people including our family. We’d often dogsit him whenever she was in the Navy traveling and he grew an attachment to my dad since he would be with us for many months.
My middle sister retired recently so he now stays with her happy and living the best life. He’s an incredible dog with an incredible backstory. We all love Watson so much, even if he barks at the tv whenever there’s another dog, a cat, or a horse on it. He’s not the brightest dog of the pack, but he’s still a very good boy

I find it super easy to clip my dog’s nails when he is relaxing on the couch. No need to stand, he is basically ignoring me. He has 4 legs btw ))
Tripawd is everything. And what a beautiful and sweet doggo.
I had a tripod dog that had similar coloring. He was in the street with a damaged front paw that was infected. Removing the whole leg was the best option. Rescues are forever grateful! He would have done anything for me. He adapted immediately! One time he got attacked and he couldn't use one of his back legs. The vet put him down on the ground after he was stitched up and he ran off on two until he stopped to wait for me. I ran and caught him before he fell over. He was so surprised that two legs were not enough. He recovered from that nasty wound with a lot of help and then was even more grateful!

My Great Grandparents had a beautiful tripod shepherd mix named Sandy and she was amazing. Forty years later I still smile at the memories of Sandy running around the yard playing with everyone ❤😊

One of the fastest dogs I have seen in my life was a tripod lurcher. She was so fast she gave my 4-legged lurcher a run for his money, it was spectacular!

What an awesome boy! One of our rescues had a litter in the shelter before we got her (and she and the litter all got parvo with all but one surviving!). On of her puppies' rear leg developed the same sort of crippling arthritis to the point where he just stopped using it. Last time I talked to them they were discussing amputation same as Brigg's owner chose. I hope they go for it. He's a good boy.
We had a three legged cat when I was young and we called her Peggy, she was a nightmare but I loved her dearly. Three legged animals are just as cute and lovable as their four legged counterparts. Thank you for sharing this lovely puppy ❤

I loved that Vanessa considers the possibilities of WHY the dog (or cat) might not like something and can often find a different angle. When they mentioned Briggs didn’t like his nails cut, I had a feeling it was because of his balance, having even one leg lifted would leave him discombobulated and decidedly uncomfortable. This way the job can be done without upsetting the lovely man!
Reminds me of this black lab that just… lives by the local precinct, she's a tripawd herself, she came to visit during election day in my country last year, you feel so bad for that one.

Yes, Tripods do rock! My boy is a Keeshond that was born missing his left front leg. He has no idea he should have more than three; he runs like the wind! He's quite the character.
There was a tripawd dog on my late border collie's flyball team years ago. He was some sort of spaniel mix and was an absolute delight--and surprisingly quick! He wasn't gonna break any flyball records, but he loved the sport and was very reliable. He was the one who taught me that three-legged dogs really aren't missing out on anything and can still have an EXCELLENT quality of life. Glad to see that holds true for this good boy as well!

I have a Romanian tripaw. Same leg missing. He struggles a bit more but he did have his entire shoulder removed too so he's got that going on. He's happy though and loves his calm, content little life in the countryside with me. A lot better than living under a car in the middle of Bucharest!
Most tripods have very good lives.
If you adopt one, you'll be very proud of your choice.
I had 4 mature cats and one was a tripod. He was 2nd to the group.
He wasn't fast or very jumpy but he lived his life very well.
The other 3 cats never noticed he was a "three stroke engine."
And then I stopped noticing.
I have a Belgian Malinois who's blind in one eye (she had to have the entire eye removed). I rarely notice it.
Brigg is truly a beautiful dog, and you can see he is well cared for!

Brigg is adorable. He seems to be getting around just fine with 3 legs. Also that equi groomer looks like it works wonders. I'm alwayssurprised by how much hair it removes. When I get my next pet (I'm not sure if I want a cat or a dog) I'm gonna have to get one. I had an Australian shepherd that I would a brush I bought in the pet section in Walmart on. He would shed a lot. And he was such a loyal, smart, attentive dog.

When amputations are the best option for quality of life, they are a second chance at life like you've never seen and the difference can be immediate for some animals- especially those who've had severe, chronic pain. Tripod life is just as full and fulfilling as life on 4 legs, with just some small tweaks here and there ( stairs and ramps are just nice to have so your animal can get their favorite places with ease even if they don't use them at first, they'll realize how much easier it is on their own in their own time ) to ensure they have access to everything they did before( this may take a little more consideration with cats and small dogs) but the adult animals adjust really well and puppies & kitties who need amputations do excellently...I just lost my tripod kitty( his kidneys failed him quit suddenly), he was 14yrs and only really started using the stairs I had bought him this past year, otherwise he would pull himself up onto the coach or the cat tree with is front paws- he had the biggest kitty biceps 💪 💪!!!! He was the career of my kitties watching over everyone else re everyone was ok...he might have been missing a leg, but he had the BIGGEST HEART OF THEM ALL!!!💖🖤

This one really hit me, as I have a precious 13.5 yr old cattle dog/golden retriever mix that we had to amputate her front right leg 2.5 yrs ago due to cancer. But even with arthritis she is happy, playful, and takes the constant need to hop with every step in stride. We don't deserve dogs.❤
