The meat industry is very thorough in whom they finance to derail dissent and opposing narratives. It's also one the greatest contributing lobbyists of congress throughout the last three decades.
For anyone that needs to see this, bees don't get murdered by vegans, unlike the animals exploited for meat, eggs, dairy, leather, fur, wool, etc. Bees get preyed on by natural predators. The number of bees dying as a result of avocado and almond pollination is practically nothing compared to the number killed and exploited for honey, which itself largely necessitates the need for outsourcing pollination in the first place since the natural honeybee populations (the same ones that pollinate the plants), along with other natural pollinators, are displaced by honey production. He picked the wrong argument. Also we need to eat something, but *vegans don't even need to eat almonds or avocados*; there are plenty of other great vegan foods, and he conveniently chose the typically cited foods with uncharacteristically high environmental impact compared to most vegan foods, and aren't representative of vegan food in general. He also didn't compare what he was criticising to any presented alternative, such as comparing the deaths involved in almonds and avocados with the death and suffering involved in animal products, or with other vegan food. If he made a fair comparison and compared a balanced vegan diet with the average Western diet, the amount of death, suffering, environmental destruction, and damage to health, is all clearly much higher on a diet containing animal products (though he'd probably ignore those facts as well). Also, saying meat isn't murder because the concept of murder only applies to humans is silly and closed-minded. We can extend the concept of murder to all sentient beings as we change our society and the language that comes with it to be more inclusive of animals. What really matters more than a label however is the simple fact remaining of what's happening to animals, whether you want to call it murder, rape and abuse, or killing, sexual violation, and exploitation. The chef didn't have any arguments so just resorted to insults and denying what Joey is saying.

I find it really frustrating when people bring in all these ridiculously way-in-the-outfield tangents where, a LOT of the time (even including this debate itself) the person will sit there arguing their concern over another animal, and as you said, even though the thing they're arguing regarding that animal may (or may not) be a genuine issue in the world, the only reason they'll bring it up is to try and derail / sidetrack the conversation to avoid their own legitimate accountability in regards to animal oppression and animal abuse. I've read the complaint from the woman the Fyre chef is talking about. She didn't go nuts. She had a large group booking she was apart of but was the only vegan and wanted to be assured that she would be able to eat with the other party members. The chef on the day then refused to service her request as previously promised and as a result of being let down she left a 1 star review expressing her disappointment... I mean that kind of service is the actual reason why reviews exist in the first place - to highlight terrible businesses and separate them from good businesses. The chef then threw all his toys out of his pram and had a whine with his fellow dead animal eaters. I remember years ago Piers and the other vegan-haters used to laugh at us. Now we downright piss them off. It's so enjoyable watching them cry and carry on about vegans when they seemed so sure we'd whither and disappear. @@patula3499 Firstly, do you really think it's the same to kill a pig as it is to kill a bee? We should avoid killing either, but pigs are much more capable of emotion, feeling, complex thought. If we have to sacrifice one, a bug makes more sense to me. Secondly, if we factor in all sentient animals, non-vegans are killing and causing suffering for far more sentient animals overall than vegans are. Don't *just* look at the bees involved in some plant production, without anything to compare it to. What about all the bees killed and made to suffer in honey production, which is in fact much crueller and worse for the bees and for the environment than migratory pollination (the practice Piers is trying to criticise and attribute to vegans). Also, acknowledge the fact that migratory pollination via honeybees for plants is only a practice because beekeeping has displaced the natural pollinators that would have pollinated them otherwise (which wouldn't require any exploitation). We have to eat something (and this affects many plants, not just avocados and almonds), and even though this method isn't as we would want it to be currently, we do our best to be vegan in a non-vegan world and cause the least harm possible. If honey production was stopped, the currently necessary practice of migratory beekeeping pronably would too as natural pollinators returned. What about all the other animals, including insects but also much more animals, killed in all the deforestation for cropland, grassland, and factories, and exponentially more crop farming for animal feed, all involved in animal agriculture? Since farming animals to exploited who had to eat lots of plants already, uses way more land, water and crops than plant agriculture directly for humans, it's an incredibly inefficient (and unsustainable & destructive, causing climate change; and unhealthy, resulting in lots of problems e.g. heart disease) method of feeding our planet, that indirectly causes a lot of unnecessary death and suffering of animals. And of course that wasn't even including all of the animals *directly* killed and made to suffer for meat, dairy, eggs, etc. What do vegans kill in comparison, for sake of honesty? Only the animals that are killed in plant production, the numbers of which are minimal in comparison and currently unavoidable (though with hormones released to deter animals, it could potentially involve no animal death at all in future, and it's not an inherently harmful system, whereas animal farming is). Vegans are truly causing the least harm possible to animals, their health, the environment, and humanity, in a way that is actually practical for the human population to follow under a plant based agricultural system.

Not only was it absolutely stupid of Piers to try to just fall back on the bee argument when he has done that so prominently in the past and obviously someone like Joey who has 'been around the block' would prepare for it but his comeback was claiming that the Guardian supports his argument not the statistic that Joey was citing from the FDA (most deaths were caused by a parasite). However, irrespective of what the Guardian might have done in some previous year, the Guardian this month published an article (available online) called "US honeybees suffer second deadliest season on record". In that it states that a particular parasite (Varroa destructor) was mainly responsible for the deaths last year which is what Joey was getting from the FDA. For anyone that needs to see this, bees don't get murdered by vegans, unlike the animals exploited for meat, eggs, dairy, leather, fur, wool, etc. Bees get preyed on by natural predators. The number of bees dying as a result of avocado and almond pollination is practically nothing compared to the number killed and exploited for honey, which itself largely necessitates the need for outsourcing pollination in the first place since the natural honeybee populations (the same ones that pollinate the plants), along with other natural pollinators, are displaced by honey production. He picked the wrong argument. Also we need to eat something, but *vegans don't even need to eat almonds or avocados*; there are plenty of other great vegan foods, and he conveniently chose the typically cited foods with uncharacteristically high environmental impact compared to most vegan foods, and aren't representative of vegan food in general. He also didn't compare what he was criticising to any presented alternative, such as comparing the deaths involved in almonds and avocados with the death and suffering involved in animal products, or with other vegan food. If he made a fair comparison and compared a balanced vegan diet with the average Western diet, the amount of death, suffering, environmental destruction, and damage to health, is all clearly much higher on a diet containing animal products (though he'd probably ignore those facts as well).
Also, saying meat isn't murder because the concept of murder only applies to humans is silly and closed-minded. We can extend the concept of murder to all sentient beings as we change our society and the language that comes with it to be more inclusive of animals. What really matters more than a label however is the simple fact remaining of what's happening to animals, whether you want to call it murder, rape and abuse, or killing, sexual violation, and exploitation. The chef didn't have any arguments so just resorted to insults and denying what Joey is saying.

I've read the complaint from the woman the Fyre chef is talking about. She didn't go nuts. She had a large group booking she was apart of but was the only vegan and wanted to be assured that she would be able to eat with the other party members. The chef on the day then refused to service her request as previously promised and as a result of being let down she left a 1 star review expressing her disappointment... I mean that kind of service is the actual reason why reviews exist in the first place - to highlight terrible businesses and separate them from good businesses. The chef then threw all his toys out of his pram and had a whine with his fellow dead animal eaters.

@@patula3499 Firstly, do you really think it's the same to kill a pig as it is to kill a bee? We should avoid killing either, but pigs are much more capable of emotion, feeling, complex thought. If we have to sacrifice one, a bug makes more sense to me.
Secondly, if we factor in all sentient animals, non-vegans are killing and causing suffering for far more sentient animals overall than vegans are. Don't *just* look at the bees involved in some plant production, without anything to compare it to. What about all the bees killed and made to suffer in honey production, which is in fact much crueller and worse for the bees and for the environment than migratory pollination (the practice Piers is trying to criticise and attribute to vegans). Also, acknowledge the fact that migratory pollination via honeybees for plants is only a practice because beekeeping has displaced the natural pollinators that would have pollinated them otherwise (which wouldn't require any exploitation). We have to eat something (and this affects many plants, not just avocados and almonds), and even though this method isn't as we would want it to be currently, we do our best to be vegan in a non-vegan world and cause the least harm possible. If honey production was stopped, the currently necessary practice of migratory beekeeping pronably would too as natural pollinators returned. What about all the other animals, including insects but also much more animals, killed in all the deforestation for cropland, grassland, and factories, and exponentially more crop farming for animal feed, all involved in animal agriculture? Since farming animals to exploited who had to eat lots of plants already, uses way more land, water and crops than plant agriculture directly for humans, it's an incredibly inefficient (and unsustainable & destructive, causing climate change; and unhealthy, resulting in lots of problems e.g. heart disease) method of feeding our planet, that indirectly causes a lot of unnecessary death and suffering of animals. And of course that wasn't even including all of the animals *directly* killed and made to suffer for meat, dairy, eggs, etc. What do vegans kill in comparison, for sake of honesty? Only the animals that are killed in plant production, the numbers of which are minimal in comparison and currently unavoidable (though with hormones released to deter animals, it could potentially involve no animal death at all in future, and it's not an inherently harmful system, whereas animal farming is). Vegans are truly causing the least harm possible to animals, their health, the environment, and humanity, in a way that is actually practical for the human population to follow under a plant based agricultural system.

The other day at a dinner someone asked me why I was vegan "is it because you don't like the food, or for your health?". I said, I am vegan for the animals. From you I learnt to be more assertive, and bring every conversation back to the animals. People don't want to hear the truth about the animal cruelty. People always try to talk abouth health when I say I am vegan, and although my health and my husbands healthy improved tremendously since we started eating plants only, I am vegan for the animals, not for my health. I never ate meat since I was 4 years old, since the day I heard meat was from a dead animal.
This is a joke. They claim to be against animal cruelty, yet they support it. They smile and laugh when someone shows them footage of animals screaming in pain.

Not only was it absolutely stupid of Piers to try to just fall back on the bee argument when he has done that so prominently in the past and obviously someone like Joey who has 'been around the block' would prepare for it but his comeback was claiming that the Guardian supports his argument not the statistic that Joey was citing from the FDA (most deaths were caused by a parasite).
