The engineering really isn't that new. In the late 70s into the early 90s, any number of Japanese companies (Pioneer, Kenwood, Denon, JVC, Sony) made DD turntables with brushless, coreless motors with no cogging. They even had other features like fully electronic auto lift or even full auto. If I were buying a new turntable, it'd be a Technics but
Ron, after 52 years of marriage, I’d opine you may have misspoke at 2:29; any wife who allows you free reign to build a sound shed and get as nerdy with audio as you’ve been doing for - how many years now?- is as close to perfect as any of us deserve. That she might enjoy actively listening to a real hi-fi even sporadically is a blessing. And, how long will you and Danny be teasing us with fuzzy focus & out of frame shots of what I can only guess is the GR/NRD collaboration? Cheers.
Indeed.... it is probably an even better value. I've seen them between $1800 and $2K consistently.... My only reason for not getting it, yet, is it is so much wider than regular sized rectangular turntable... and I am space constrained.
@@2HatHudders It got a (very) good review in HiFi News, a respectabele review magazine. Technics turntables are very good, but not so appreciated by their looks for a lot of us.
For $3300, I'll stick with my U-turn Orbit Custom. She has all the bells, cost about the same as a 1200mk2, and sounds even better with a good moving coil cart. I've been using mine for archiving vinyl for about 2 years with no complaints.
I’m more than happy with my Music Hall Stealth. But I’m so happy to hear about the ortofon bronze’s performance. I thought about the Black but my older vinyl might sound really bad with that. I do wish there were more Music Hall Stealth reviews. I love mine.
Beware buyers. Every new Technics until you get to the “G” model has a cogged plastic gear cue lever. I love everything about my 1500, (although if the 100 had been born I’d have bought that) except the cue lever. At 5 years old it will not hold the cartridge above the vinyl on its own. Check the threads on the Hoffman forum. Great otherwise.
Hi! Have you compared with the 1200 G ? Does the law of diminish returns applies to this 1300 G against the more expensive 1200G? What do you think? Is there any around same price turntable better than this new Technics? Thank you Best Jose
How does this table compare with the quartz locked Technics SL-1410mk2. It is direct drive. Extremely low wow and flutter. S type arm, VTA adjustability. Well built. I mean the 1300G looks awesome. Im not sure I could justify buying it over what I have. I run an ortofon black cart. Anyone out there that can explain it? I use the Manley Chinook SE for phono stage
Months ago, Dani Corbelli made a fantastic review in Spanish and that I highly recommend. Technics SL-1300G: Tecnología avanzada para un sonido perfecto en cada giro ua-cam.com/video/QeSfjMi5WQY/v-deo.html
Finally the turntable we middle class budget audiophiles have been asking for. Don’t need the DJ stuff the 1200 series offers. “Cart”? If “cartridge” too many syllables Ron? Merch, app, cart, where does the lazy speak end? 😉😂😎
A new DAC every month is cheaper then your SL-1300. I'd rather buy the new and improved "DAC of the Month" so that way I'm saving money. You wouldn't believe how different the same delta-sigma ship can sound! I have all the Toppings, and the Mk 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Ding-ha DACs, and all 5 revs of the Storminator and.... Oh wait, on second thought.
Did you use the stock cables on it ? I have one on order, should have it by the end of January. Will be curious how it sounds with my Dynavector 20X2-L into a Gold Note PH10/PSU10.
Sad to say, this was a bit infomercialish 🥲I hold you in high regard but did expect more of this review. Would you consider acquiring an old SL 1210 and compare? That would be fun. The old one has the “heavy” 😂 transformer in stead of a switch mode PS. But the 1210 platter is lighter than the “heavy 1200G. I wonder if the old and the new record player end up with similar weights? The tone arm looks identical. Aluminum and same features.
That’s how you build a turntable! Old aesthetics, new engineering and still so cool looking. Great review! 👍🏻
I’m glad you agree, it’s a really cool turntable.

I love the new Denon direct drive turntable a lot too. I think even more, especially with the Denon DL103 MC element.

I have the Denon set up, it's a big turntable but sounds very good. I'm off the upgrade chain now.

Nice Review Ron; just the only thing missing was a comparison against anything else; either Technics or competition.

Eagerly awaiting the new speakers, think they may scratch my itch.

Also a plastic bearing housing. I used the old ones in professional applications in the 80s. Nothing plastic back then
Now you tell me! I've got a Rega P8 with a Apheta 3 MC cartridge on order.

The build quality and tone arm are better on the 1200g, better dampening and motor as well.

No comparison to the Pure Fidelity Harmony?
Totally different pricepoints makes comparisons a bit more of an academic exercise.

Good review! Too bad it doesn't have a balanced output. On a different topic, when are you going to get your hands on a Schiit Wotan for review?
Wow, another 'reviewer' has become an audio designer. I think you can be one or the other but to do both makes you lose credibility as a reviewer.
Arm is too light and the bearing gimble is made of plastic
