Thank you for this excellent break-down of edging options! I believe edging of your beds, paths etc is a game-changer in the “why didn’t anyone tell me about this years ago?” category. First, even if you can just do a sharp spade cut between your grass and your beds in the spring, it looks so much better, you will be amazed. But secondly, if you can spring for something like a tumbled limestone edger for a path, or aged bricks, etc- The difference between that and using something like metal edging or the old crappy plastic-night and day. That is just my opinion, if you have to use metal, use deep, tall thick metal of good quality. Don’t go near the plastic but you are best either doing a sharp spade cut, or something heavy like what is described in this video, stone, cement, etc.
