    Angela, I cleaned houses to get through university! The gratified clients were what made it all worthwhile 😊 (Yes, I needed the $$) What I really want to tell you is that you are one of the BEST presenters I've ever seen here on UA-cam. You are clear, succinct, detailed, and you make the point. You are delivering a great deal of information that is important to many, many people, AND you are doing an excellent job doing it! Good for YOU!! Best wishes to you, MaryAnn, Vancouver Island_British Columbia

    The hard lesson I have learned since I’ve open my cleaning business is make sure the client isn’t talking with you as you walk around their house. You’re going to miss very important key things and sometimes because you were talking you’re not noticing actually how dirty the house is and you under bid the job. So now I do a walk-through with the client and then I ask them if I can have five minutes to walk around and really look at it myself and make notes.

    I LOVE this video! The pre-walk through. The flashlight trick! Black light trick. I show my clients how to tell a housecleaner actually cleaned the house -- they are impressed! Great selling point! Who knew?

    I love these tips! My 1 client I clean for is in evening (5/6pm-8pm) & depending on time of year it can be dark & the lighting can mask dust/dirt but time. So I got a headband w/ LED light attached (very functional) & it's been super helpful because I can turn on & off as needed + my hands are free to work

      That’s a fantastic tip! I have a headlamp from my running “phase”. We have a lot of rental properties that we clean with no light futures in some common areas.
      Now I have to clean my own house to find the darn thing

    I’m not a house cleaner, but I want to say when you said the reason for pre-walk-thru: “I go down all these rabbit trails” if we don’t do the precheck. Prioritizing after checking all that needs to be done... it’s common sense but I never do that and I always end up cleaning a little of each room and albeit I probably get a lot of extra steps in, I am not prioritizing or giving anything my full attention. Thanks for the video!

      The night before I come in or briefly when I get there I ask the client if there is anything special or specific that they want me to focus on. If it’s (for example cleaning the inside of the refrigerator) then My second question is is there something that you can give up that I can wait till the following week to clean so that I don’t go over my time limit that they have set for me, or They will let me know that it’s okay to stay over. Sometimes that works and I stay over for a little extra money and they’re OK with it or they’re not OK with it, or perhaps I’m too busy to stay any longer Than what I normally do.

    Thank you, Angela. There are few people/professionals in life who deliver knowledge raising information every time.
    I am the housecleaner of my home, and this video gave me a new perspective on how to start my cleaning, prioritizing areas and chores to get the most out of my energy and endurance. I have cleaned and cleaned and at the end of the job, I saw dust elephanta trumpeting in the corners or under the table.
    Now when I start to work, then stop for whatever reason, I can pickup where I left off to complete the overall work easily and quickly getting all the cleaning done. 👍
    Thank you again for such invaluable information.
    All the best, 👍😀

    I just want to say from the bottom of my heart thank you so much. When I was a kid growing up, my mother would get frustrated that I wouldn't clean up on her timetable so she would just go ahead and clean up my room for me. So that taught me to wait her out and she would just do it herself because she was obsessed with the cleaning and not me. Well that left me feeling very unprepared when I got my own home and had to start taking care of my own things because I never really paid attention I never really cleaned up anything and so your channel is giving me so many great tips I just want to thank you so much. I do want to say though that I keep ending of watching your videos late at night and then it's like crap at 1 in the morning I'm inspired to go clean something but I've got to go to bed. But I do small steps like okay well I'm going to go load the dishwasher and start it before I go to bed even if it is 1 in the morning or I'll throw a load of laundry in and get something accomplished because right now I feel like I live in clutter hell.

I have gotten a lot of compliments from her other clients and from my own that I do a good job but then I get complaints for not being thorough enough. Walk through is very important because when every person call you as a house cleaner they always said their house is small, clean, and easy. So when you get to the house walking with the owner you can explain how dirty is, or how big is that little patio that they described.
    Also very important to point broken things, so after you clean they can't said you broke those things.

    We just returned home from a 6 week vacation in America and we both noticed how grungy our house was. My husband wanted to clean the exposed beams in the living room and I came up with the idea of using a high-powered flashlight (a personal security light) to go over each beam. He used the hose attachment on the vaccuum and for the first time ever our living room was free of cobwebs. Now we have to find a way to prevent them in the first place. Ideas?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  3 роки тому +1

      You have one smart husband. Way to go with the flashlight and the vacuum hose. Nice one. For regular maintenance cleaning our teams use the Doca Pole System amzn.to/3BXQTGm and it has an extension pole that goes up to 24 ft so it will reach the 2nd story ledges and ceiling fans where dust and cobwebs hide out. This kit also includes a cobweb cleaner (the round green ball lookin one.)

    Can I dilute the multipurpose cleaner. Is rinsing required?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  3 роки тому +1

      Multipurpose cleaner is by its very nature already diluted. When you add more water you change the pH level of the chemical which also dilutes its cleaning power. If you are using a concentrate, follow the manufacturers instructions for dilution for best results.

    Never clean a light BULB with a damp cloth! Bulb will shatter. And clean the lighting (only when it's completely cool) with a soft microfiber cloth.
    As a cleaner, I say that cleaners SHOULD be cleaning all those areas very well anyway; therefore, they shouldn't need to look at it with a black light or LED flashlight. 😉 Haha! But, whatever works, so that you do the best iob. 🙂👍🏼

    Angela May I ask you a question that maybe you may not know how to answer.
    Why do Cleaning company owners under pay their workers. Yet expect top notch job to be done. Probably charge the clients to the roof

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 роки тому +2

      That is an excellent question. It's not about underpaying the workers it's about running a business. Most markets will charge what is called "market price" meaning homeowners are willing to pay a certain amount for cleaning.
      The business owner will always charge as much as possible in order to cover the business costs. The cost of running a cleaning business includes hiring ads, recruiting, training, payroll, taxes, insurance, workers comp, breakages, call-backs, cleaning supplies, equipment like vacuums, caddies, mops, sponges, dusters, etc. There are also uniforms, personal protective equipment, aprons, vehicles, vehicle service, fuel, vehicle insurance, vehicle repairs, advertising, marketing, social media, internet, webhosting, domain names, web and graphic design and website maintenance, business listings and citations, customer service, admin, accounting, inventory, and so much more. By the time most cleaning business owners are done - they realize they made more take home pay when they were employees.

      Did she have your aunts house first or yours? Of she worked for her first then you hired her, she might just be trying to figure out a higher pay. Maybe she realized she could charge more. There is no reason for her to charge more for your house if its 2 stories. No its not harder because she does one floor at a time. Not running up and down the stairs. I charge by how dirty it is and I estimate how much hours it will take me. Having a bigger house is not always a bigger job.

    • @AskAngelaBrown

      Where is the smell? Is it on the clothes or in the room? Is it on the drapes or carpet? Or is it coming from the air filters in the room? An ozone generator amzn.to/2OhY5qa could work wonders but if you don't remove the source of the smell (like if it's in your hvac system) the smell may return after a few weeks.

    Wow, I can't believe you emphasized the importance of using a flashlight!! And, I can't believe house cleaners don't care enough to use a flashlight while they dust, or at least to check their finished work to make sure they haven't missed anything (you have to turn out the lights and hold the flashlight parallel with the surface). I'm picky about dust, and I always make sure I communicate about that, and I use a flashlight to determine whether or not I have a house cleaner back again. I've tried to hire house cleaners to just do the dusting and baseboards (I'm a minimalist, so very little decor to dust); I do everything else, so wouldn't a house cleaning service consider dusting a clean house an easy job?? Nope, can't find a house cleaner that knows how to dust.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  4 роки тому +3

      As unconventional as that sounds, I know exactly what you mean. At the start and finish of every job I inspect it with the lights off using a flashlight so I can pick up the stuff that is washed out by bright lights. Important note: most homeowners don't roam around their homes with bright lights on always. So, they see the stuff we can't see with the lights on. Thanks for the reminder. :-)

    As a professional house cleaner are you expected to spot clean the walls

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  5 років тому

      Yes within reason. When you do the walkthrough with the customer if you see lots of fingerprints you can ask questions about the type of paint. If it's flat paint and you scrub off the finger prints you'll most likely scrub off some of the paint as well. Typically house cleaners will clean fingerprints from semi-gloss paint which are baseboards (skirting), light switches and white painted 6 panel interior doors with finger prints. And then of course any countertops, cabinets, cupboards, or other kitchen/bathroom fingerprints. Just be really careful on the flat paint.

    I don't know what to expect from a house cleaner. It's been my frustration that they work less and less over time till your paying 50 dollars a hour and then I decide I can't afford them.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  3 роки тому +3

      The key is to have verifiable results. This often happens with clear expectations and a work sheet that has been checked by the cleaner and can also be checked by you. You need to get what you are paying for.
