      Very useful. Could you do a segment on paste wax or finishing polish? Both solids that come in a bright yellow can several inches tall. One is MINIWAX Paste Finishing Polish. And the other is SC JOHNSON Paste Wax.
      I’ve bought them years ago to bring up the shine to a “French polish” but always been too afraid to use them because I don’t know how or on what types of wood finishes would be appropriate or not.
      Thank you so much for considering. Sincerely, a Big Fan

    In this video you mention using Pledge. I got an interesting tip from my expert on Anderson windows. He said to use Lemon Pledge in the tracks of my sliding windows. Besides smelling great, it lubricates the track and does not attract dust. This treatment keeps the windows sliding well and prolongs the life of the sliding mechanism.

    My absolute furniture polish was by SC Johnson’s “specialty surface” cleaner but unfortunately it seems to have been discontinued. It worked great on wood, stainless steel, granite and leather! The only thing it couldn’t be used on was glass. I have no idea why the SC Johnson company discontinued it, but I do know that many people were very disappointed! On the other hand Angela Brown is absolutely correct that most of the time all you need is a very slightly damp cloth to dust your wood furniture.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Рік тому +2

      Walli, I am so sorry that you can’t find your favorite furniture polish. I suggest you reach out to SC Johnson to see if it’s been discontinued or possibly rebranded with a new look. Here is a link to their contact information: www.scjp.com/en-us/contact

    Hi Angela, so glad I found your videos! So helpful. I am trying to save my 1960s mahogany veneer kitchen cabinets. They are stained, and have a very thin coat of something on them. There are dark streak spots in some of them, ( not mildew) also steam damage, and plenty of dirt and grease especially around the knobs. My plan was to clean them first, then maybe a light sand with 320 grit paper, then use Howards restore a finish, and finally Howard's beeswax polish. I'm not sure what to clean them with? I was told krud kutter pre-paint cleaner, but I don't know if I should be dulling the surface. I have some Krud Kutter general cleaner that I could try but it doesn't specify use on raw wood. Tried a bit of dawn dishwashing soap with vinegar, and Lemon/ lemon rind tea I made mixed with warm water. Then I rinsed with baking soda water mix, and then rinsed well and dried well. Didn't find great results with that, especially the dark streaks and it seemed to be lifting the stain a bit. Seems like the grain is somewhat lifted on them already and the veneer seems quite thin. Can you suggest a product to clean them with?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Blossom Bud, if the intent is to sand and restain them, the Krud Kutter Original Degreaser will be just fine. It may remove the grease and gunk build up and if there are dark streak spots - this may remove whatever that is. After you sand them, they should be more of an even finish and re-sealing the wood will give them a new life. Keep me posted, I'm eager to hear how this project goes for you.

    I have a question...I am a self employed house cleaner and used The Method Everyday Wood Cleaner for about 2-4 months and 3 different clients had the same issue of...well if they sat a piece of paper, with print on it, on the table, and the paper or wood became wet, the print from the paper transferred to the wood! Luckily these weren’t important or expensive tables to the clients and were easily replaced. I am insured. I also, now, only use swifter duster. My question is, why did this happen and could i have prevented it?
    Thank you Angela I appreciate all the hard work you put into your videos! I’ve learned so much!

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  4 роки тому

    I have replaced all these products with Odies Oil except for ones that clean off dirt. Then I apply ODIES oil a paste smelling of luscious lemon, is food safe, solvent free, non-toxic, waterproof. It is safe around pets and children. Can be used indoors or outdoors. Seems expensive but a little bit goes a long way. It is applied with a special pad, left for 15 - 20 minutes and then buffed off. I have not tried other Odie products such as a Odies Super Penetrating oil, wood butter, or wax.

    Angela, I have been doing things wrong for years, thank you for providing these videos I learn so much (and wasting less product) Can you do a video on cooktops? Mine is glass and I’m afraid to use something abrasive and is there a way to clean scuff marks from a kitchen sink without ruining the glazing? I’ve used soft scrub and I think I’ve taken off the glazing

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  4 роки тому +3

      Hi Kelly, Thanks for the kind words. The glass cooktop can be cleaned with a product like Ceramabryte ua-cam.com/video/Z9EGjIFaMwo/v-deo.html and a wet razor. The key to not scratching the cooktop is technique and keeping your surface wet. As for the sink, what type of finish do you have on it? Is it porcelain? Corian?

    • @kellyb2519
      @kellyb2519 4 роки тому

      Angela Brown i looked up the sink and I think it’s enameled covered cast iron, it’s smooth and shiny everywhere but the very bottom of the sink where I’ve used the soft scrub ☹️. Also I bought the Brite and Clean for the shower and it works great! I appreciate all the information it has really been great!

      When it comes to furniture, if you are looking for one solution - it would be a damp microfiber cloth. That won't leave any residue and will be safe for the surface type.

      If it is super glossy it most likely has a top coat or finish of it's own. All you will need is a damp microfiber cloth. Avoid sprays because it will after a while have a build up that will show spots and fingerprints.

    • @algavern8001
      @algavern8001 2 роки тому +1

      C Stevens --I also prefer old tee shirts or soft cloths sprayed with Enddust for dusting. I find the Swiffers hold the dust and then redeposit it back on the furniture. I am astounded at all the people that love Swiffers--just more landfill trash and extra expense--though convenient to grab if you are just dusting one or two thing-- but so wasteful!! Also we were always taught to apply polish with cheesecloth rags ( I guess I'm really old school --pre microfiber ! Watch out for old towels, as they can leave a lot of lint. Old tee shirts are much better. Save the towels for cleaning up messes or washing down things.

    • @AskAngelaBrown

      You can use Murphy Oil Soap in a spray with a damp cloth. It looks like this amzn.to/358DcX3 but you can find it a lot cheaper at Home Depot or Lowes. This will break down the buildup of furniture polish and leave your table clean. I believe that Murphy Oil Soap is also a no-rinse product so you can just spray and wipe.

    If you see this one. Is it ok to use wood oil to shine stainless steel sinks and fridge?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 роки тому +1

      Technically yes, I believe we are talking about Howard Cutting Board Oil which is a food-grade mineral oil. Here is the paid link amzn.to/3wVquJJ The thing with using it for your stainless steel appliances, unlike using it on your cupboards and painting it on with a paint sponge, for a stainless steel fridge you would put a bit of it on a cloth and rub it into the steel. You don't want an excessive amount because you don't want a build up on your fridge that will attract dust and fingerprints. Does that make sense?

      Yowser. Dark matte finish doesn't tell me if they are wood, or pre-engineered material or what. Without knowing more, I recommend a damp sponge with a bit of Dawn Dishwashing soap and then wipe down with a damp clean cloth to wash off the soap.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Kristina, No I don't carry all this with me. Most furniture can be wiped with a damp cloth which removes dust and keeps the shine. If a customer has a preference for a particular furniture polish I buy a bottle (add the cost into the cleaning so the customer is paying for it.) Then I label the can or bottle with the customers name and their house number and their time slot. (i.e. Sterling, 3102, Wed 9:00)
      We have a shelf that holds "customers supplies" and when packing a caddy for that house we only take their polish. That way it is not used on any other house and a bottle or can lasts a year or so.

    I'm looking for the best all-purpose wood cleaner (not polish). Do you think either Method, Bona, or Murphy's Oil will work for this, and what would they ruin (if anything?)
    I've tried the Method one which seems fine imo, but I started using Bona Wood Surfaces Deep Cleaner because I figure the name brand would help with "liability" (or credibility) in case something accidentally gets ruined...not sure if that's better than Method or not. Which is 'better" and could the Bona cleaner (or Method) really ruin any type of wood or finish? I don't care about what's shinier or whatever, only about ensuring nothing gets ruined.
    I haven't really tried Murphy's yet bc I wasn't clear on it's purpose.

    How do you get white marks from hot bowls off your kitchen table? :(

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Рік тому +1

      Oh no, I hate when that happens. These marks are often caused by the moisture trapped between the hot bowl and the table's finish. If the marks are minor, you might be able to remove them using a hairdryer on a low heat. Keep the hairdryer moving back and forth over the white marks for about 20-30 seconds. The heat helps to evaporate the moisture trapped in the finish.
      Once the marks are gone, use table cloths or placemats in the future to prevent new marks from forming. 👍
