I'm in love with your engine build videos. Very informative.
I have an 88 softail that I'm doing a full rebuild on cause the bearing support failed on me on the left case. From your experience, what main bearing spacer thickness will have your crankshaft end play within spec every time?

I don't have a particular answer for that as for may years now, if you buy a good Main Bearing set, they are about right. I did have one a while ago that was tighter than I Iiked and, that was unusual, but I just replaced the whole set and it was good to go., Maybe someone out there has an opinion on this and can comment on it. I don't have a supplier for the spacers themselves so I hang onto old ones just in case. lol Thanks for the question and commenting.

@itsmytimeletsgo Ty for the honest response sir. I'm now watching your series on ole Margaret. Man, that's a cool bike! I love how u explain why you do stuff instead of a generic modern how to that is rushed an doesn't show u how much of a bear the job really is lolol

@@_2wheelsmovesthesoul_619 Thanks just trying to show what I can so others can learn how to do some of it. Just brezzing though it does not help much if someone is tyring to learn how. Thanks

My gears werent marked. I kept the pairs together but not the exact positioning. Does poisitioning matter or just that the pairs stayed together?

It is just nice to keep them together the way they came out, as they are worn from running together if the pump is older and used. It is not necessary but every little bit helps. The gears are different sizes so you can't mix them up. They will only go in one way. feed with feed , return with return. Thanks for commenting.

So explain to me how you got the dots lined up on the inner gears , you can't see them, also being the inner gears are the same, why it matters, the same goes for the outer gears......

You can see them when you are installing them into the pump body. I think I explained why in your previous question. Thanks for commenting.

One more issue the dots don't line up dot to dot they can go only on either side of the other dot ,why you ask , because they are on the teeth , one dot should be on the tooth the other should be be between the teeth making a dot to dot possible....

The dot to dot mesh is not needed, as they are not timed to the motor, but keeping them together is done for wear purposes. If you mix and reverse the gears it can cause more wear, as I understand it. Thanks for commenting.
