- Here I give a quick and dirty run down for how to knit your own Wednesday sweater vest! This tutorial uses basic knitting techniques like knit, purl, k2tog, ssk, mattress stitch, and picking up stitches.
Let me know if you made your own!

I made this as my first knit wearable and it came out perfect! It was surprisingly easy as well. Thank you so much for this tutorial
Yay! So glad to hear that it turned out well! 🖤🤍🖤
Omg this is amazing!!! You did a great job and the final sweater is perfect!!!
Thank you so much!!!
Wow! What a great job you did creating and explaining! I can't believe you are sharing this how-to for free!! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!!
Would Wednesday make her own outfits? 🤔 She sure would! No doubt about it 😎 We all know how artsy and creative she is, right? 😊 Beautiful vest btw, keep it up! 😍
I am here for any content of Wednesday being artsy 😍 hopefully in season 2!
@@laurarachellee yay, let's cross fingers for that 🤞☺
Que trabajo tan prolijo, muchas felicidades, esta hermoso 👍😍😊
OMG this looks perfect you did an amazing job !
Thank you so much!! 😊
Big love! Looks really professional, well done!
Thanks so much! 😊
Excellent. I loveling It. Very thanks for your time ❤
You’re a god, thank you SO much
I came out so good, I want to try as well (:
Me encanta tu buen trabajo muy prolijo me dieron ganas de tejer❤❤❤❤
Really excellent tutorial! Thankyou
So glad you found it helpful!!
Wow. So smart.
Awesome
Doing the lord's work 🙏
It’s beautiful fantastic job! Morticia knits so maybe Wednesday can we know Enid crochets which is awesome
I think we need a scene of Enid teaching Wednesday how to crochet in season 2 🤔
I really need to learn how to use circular knitting needles
It’s super similar to straight needles! Some people prefer it because there is no purling when you are working in the round.
Hi Laura, what kind of yarn did you use? It's amazing
Hi! I used Hobby Lobby brand Yarn Bee Soft Stitch in colors black and white. Any size 4 (worsted weight) yarn should work!
Also, morticia actually knits! I like to think morticia would make her clothes
That would be so sweet if Wednesday was wearing stuff Morticia made for her!
Please UA-cam I'm already making Wednesday's other checkered vest, don't show me this or I'll end up making them both 😭
Totally worth it if you have 30(ish) hours to spare 😅
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I wonder if it would be a good idea to block all the columns before putting them together. I don't think you did this though. Did the curling of the columns form a problem for the assembly? Or did you maybe block your work after putting everything together? 😊
I did not block them before seaming them together, but that definitely would have helped! It was a little annoying to work with. Blocking seems to always be the answer lol
Just a Quick question- is there meant to be 34 rows in every square? Or different counts of rows in each square? I’m new to knitting patterns 😅
Yes! The row count should be the same in every square. It will be the stitch count that changes as you make decreases at the top of the vest. And you might not have exactly 34 rows - it will be however many you need to get the size square you want (in my case, it was 5”x5” squares to get an overall checkered portion that is 20”x20” on the front and on the back).
If you make the vest exactly how I did (i.e. Not colorwork/ intarsia) then I recommend knitting one extra row on the very bottom squares ONLY because you will lose one row when picking up stitches for the bottom ribbing (this is already in the pattern)
I’m happy to answer any more questions you have as you knit, so please don’t hesitate to ask! 😊
@@laurarachellee it makes sense now, thank you! 😋
and thank you for the pattern! I’m enjoying it a lot
My smallest needles were 3.5 and were still almost 1/4 inch bigger than your gauge and is making a very stiff fabric with worsted acrylic. I'm going to size up my needles and adjust my stitch counts down. Hopefully, I can make it work. I'm pretty much exactly your size, so I was hoping it would be straightforward, but I can not achieve gauge with this stitch count and my hobby lobby yarn. It must be bigger than yours.
I definitely agree that going up in needle size and down in stitches is the way to go. The one I made is fairly stiff, and I think a loose gauge would actually look more like her sweater. I would love to know the gauge you settled on and the yarn you are using!
Hi, how are you? I love your pattern, it corresponds very well to the original. I have a question and maybe you can help me. I am a few sizes bigger, I used 5mm needles and my squares ended up with 27 stitches and 35 rows (actually there are about 36 rows due to the change in color of the square that follows above). The reduction would be the same as in the video for the sides and v-neck. If not, can you please help me, I would be very grateful. I am new to knitting. I thank you in advance for reading my comment.
Hi! You are correct: the reduction process would be the same, but your final stitch counts could end up a little different depending on how you would like yours to look. For the arm hole reductions, I would follow the pattern and end with 19 stitches (so you would reduce one less time than I did). For the v-neck, I would follow the same pattern of reducing on every other knit row, but you have the option to stop once you get to 12 stitches or to keep reducing until you reach your 35/36 rows. This might only result in one or two extra decreases if you keep going, but just keep in mind that the number of stitches you finish with on the back middle columns need to match the number of stitches you finish with on the v-neck front columns. I hope this helps! Let me know how it turns out :)
@@laurarachellee Thank you very much for your help. A query, does it work the same if I'm doing everything together in one panel instead of doing it column by column?
Hi, this looks lovely and I love the fit. What knitting needle size did you use?
Hi! I used 5mm needles for the checkered portion and 4mm needles for all of the ribbing. I used a worsted weight yarn, and 5mm was the needle size it recommended.
@@laurarachellee thank you, started it today and it already looks lovely
How can we get our sizes? I mean I didn't watch it full but does it say in the video?
Hi! Decide what you want the overall length of the checkered portion to be (keep in mind that the width will be the same measurement), and then divide that length by 4. This number will be the size of one square.
For example, I chose a checkered portion length of 20 inches, and this gave me 5 x 5 inch squares.
Then the rest of the sweater vest is essentially putting squares together and reducing for the neck and arm holes!
@@laurarachellee thank you so much
Can you do this with intarsia knitting
Yes you can! I think it would actually make knitting this a lot faster - I just wanted to give the most basic method for the tutorial :)
@@laurarachellee Thank you so much ive been looking for this pattern FOREVER u r a life saver💪❤️
@@laurarachellee By the way about how much yarn did you use?
I used 2 balls of white and 3 of black in a worsted weight yarn (or Hobby Lobby size 4). Each ball had 210 yards in it, and I ended up with about half a ball of each left over!
@@laurarachellee thank u
can this gilet fit a 70kg girl
I think it would! However, I think the safe bet would be to make the vest to the exact width and length you want. This way you can adjust the amount of positive ease
Plz can u change the font next time to a simple one cuz I had a hard time reading it 😅
For sure! I got a little carried away with the Wednesday ~aesthetic~
@@laurarachellee lol thanks 👍
I think Wednesday would knit, but has a intense distaste for crochet and that's why she dislikes people who crochet so much
Poor Enid 😅 at least Wednesday accepted the snood
