Hoverbat redesigned the game so it would be harder at the start and easier at the end (if you got everything) You are so skilled at the game I hope you try it with the randomizer on, and put the keys in there if you are a real masochist. But with the randomization things like the fire spell to light torches and extra caves to by pass item lockouts keep the game fair. Example - you can get from the north to the south of the first continent with: the Jump spell & Hammer per usual, but you can also do it with (Fire spell, Power Bracelet, or Glove) If you didn't realize: (It was hard to tell with the cuts) The necklace restored mana/magic over time The red Fairy took health (about 2 blocks) when it saved your life. (it wasn't X times per room) A list of what you missed (but not where) Spoilers: - - - - - - - - - Master Sword King's Shield Bait Meat Mask Cucu Spell (no one ever finds it without looking it up or searching every square.
Zelda 2 is such an underrated game, and the combat doesn't get enough credit. Even all these *decades* later, gamers with many years of experience playing games struggle with the combat even though the game doesn't really do anything cheap. The enemies are simply designed very well.
@@ronartest7748 everytime you attack him you jumpattack him and DOWNSTRIKE with your sword, not a downthrust which is under link, u hold down and sideways + attack, this does a crouch attack in midair, allowing u to basically trick the shield block ull hit everytime.

this game was all i had for an entire summer back in 90 (i think that was the year) in an old farm house miles from anyone. I couldn't get far but the memories this just brought back to me. thank you
Oh, and as for the Erdrick thing, in the original Final Fantasy game, there was a tombstone that says something like "Here lies Erdrick" and I think that Square did this as a bit of a jab at Enix who were rivals at the time. If memory serves me correctly, after Square and Enix merged, they released updated versions and instead said "Here lies Link". I figured that this is just a nod to that. It would also be tough to incorporate the characters of Final Fantasy as they had no canonical names, as far as I know. They are just the warriors of light and the player names them before the start of the quest.
I remember my brother beating that game back in the 80’s to this day he still beating every game he gets his hand on. The crazy amount of games under his belt is f-in crazy.

As a kid i played this so much everyday and learned a lot of the things on my own without a book or internet...all i had was an older brother of a friend of mine that would give tips cuz he played it too but overall I just explored and died a lot and just kept playing...finally I got to some barrier and I tried everything like turning into a fairy to get thru but never was able so I never finished it as a kid :( later on I watched lets plays and finally saw how so now knowing this exists its bringing back memories and now I have a chance to play this with new content as an adult :)...thank you!

I completely beat this game a few months back, and it is an absolute masterpiece. The only fan game I’d say compares to it would be AM2R. But this is ridiculously well made.

Greetings from the BIG SKY of Montana. When I left NOA I returned to Montana. This game came out at that time. I always liked the music in this game. My Nintendo Power magazine had a good map of this game.
Yeah, this wouldn't be able to be run on the original hardware. Even if you could fit the new assets into a cart, the hardware would likely not be able to render all of the additional graphics to the larger screen. The game only renders so many tiles and adding the additional tiles that are not rendered because that content would be off the screen I imagine would be far beyond the original hardware's capabilities. That said, this does look like a very fun remake.
Zelda 2 is my favorite game and i love this remaster, its so good besides a couple gripes here and there. My issue is i can't find info at all on what things do what exactly. Like I can't for the life of me find all the orange slimes they added or a heart container on island palace. Great video sir
I had to go try it out after watching some of this. Its pretty cool in my opinion. Sadly the keyboard mapping is horrible and doesn't seem to have a way to be re-mapped. Major bad news for the gameplay trying to use ctrl to attack and space to jump was just throwing me all kinds of off. Add the ability to customize the controls and this is a total show stopper. Edit: I just looked closer and there is in fact a way to remap the keys I simply overlooked it 10/10
I beat zelda 2 i was so proud as a kid. I sorta remember beating your shadow. Some games I remember I just couldn't beat were. Ninja Gaiden, Master Blaster, and Kid Icarus on the nes were impossible for me. It still haunts me that I couldn't beat them
The things that kill me about this otherwise impressive redo is: I hate the chicken! I just do. I’ve seen people play this and they will just use the chicken spell like a crutch since you are shorter thus harder to hit and still have access to attack abilities so why even bother ever switching back? This also means that levels are redesigned to accommodate the chicken physics instead of the fairy powers which would no longer be limited to a single screen per casting. The tower leading up to the final boss is unremarkable and the fact there’s anything past Shadow Link both undermines the significance of the surprise final challenge and forgets the point of the story was just to get the lost, third Triforce to wake the OG Zelda and not defeat Ganon. I don’t like that the Blessed Down Stab is now behind a progression wall that forces you to do Midoro _before_ getting it instead of putting it off until after visiting Mido for the new ability. For all the limitless room to work with beyond the NES original, how is it they couldn’t finally fix Link’s sprite so that his shield isn’t green nor his sword flesh colored? With all the extra space now being in widescreen, I think the organization of the interface at the top of the screen was poorly thought out. There’s enough room to keep the ranks next to their meters since they’re what the eye focuses to up top. Just space things out a little to take advantage of the empty space on the sides. The life counter can connect to the EXP tally. I know you didn’t design this and I’m not leveling these criticisms at you. Just want to share my feelings since I find some of these to be deal breakers.

While I’m not sure if there are multiple versions of this remaster, I could have sworn I’d seen a playthrough where the Downstab was blocked until the Power Glove was attained and that the chicken spell wouldn’t wear off by changing screens. Maybe those things are in the second quest since your playthrough doesn’t go beyond fighting Dark Link but IDK.🫤 To the other point, I can see how the Fairy Spell can sometimes be OP, but there are ways to work around it. The expenditure of magic and the fact that one can’t pick things up with it would mean having to rethink whether to use it or stay as Link so that you’re able to interact with certain things you’ve gained easy access to. Plus, I kinda just adore the usage of Fairy in Three-Eye Rock Palace so there’s that.🤗
100%. Dude is rushing so much. I haven't played this game for decades. But, I still remember how to play it. Attacking and maneuvering requires a lot of patience and timing, and knowing when and how to utilize your shield for defensive blocks.
Picking up magic bottles before using a spell, leaving magic bottles behind, skipping over P bags, jumping into enemies, picking the wrong upgrades, ARRRGGH! 😄😄I turned it off like five times just to come back because I wanted to see the rest of the game.

The original game is timeless, and good in its own right, but the additions for this version make the game so much more immersed
