I'm curious about somethings in this game, i was hoping maybe that maybe someone here could help me out with. Why does the Arrow sometimes make a different noise when you shoot it?
Hey Lack! I'm just putting the finishing touches on a Z1 ROM hack. It's in the spirit of the first two quests with a 95% similar overworld and some shuffled dungeons and stuff. Would you be interested in playing? I promise it's not gimmicky and definitely doesn't suck.
Does zigzag diagonal movement really approximate the Euclidean distance better than moving in straight lines? I'd think if true diagonal movement isn't allowed, you're not actually making or even approximating a triangle. The perimeter would be the same, no?
It's actually not. The way the grid movement is setup in Zelda 1 shows that Link moves 1 frame faster when transitioning up/right, right/up, left/down or down/left. If you were to cover 2 tiles going from bottom left to top right, it would be faster to turn more times than just once because of this pumping. One turn would save 1 frame. If you turn every half step, you are saving 2 frames each time. One for up -> right and one for right -> up.

I just realized Friday the 13th uses a Zelda sound effect. I guess it's pretty common or something. Either that or it just sounds almost identical. Maybe dozens of games use the same sound effects and I just never thought about it..
You can bring up the continue/save/retry menu by pressing up+A on the second controller when in the menu. This saves time and routes the game differently. Traditionally, this game was speedrun without this function. Thanks for watching!

The Book makes the Magical Rod/Wand create fire when the beam hits something.

It's a different route. 100% offers a few choices in keys, I'm opting for the fastest one but high variance

how do you get such a clean output from your nes? are you using an adaptor of some sort?
Yep, I upscale the output with a RetroTink 5x-Pro. The console is also RGB modded
