This is the most astounding amp I ever owned! Discovered it on the GUITAR SUMMIT in Mannheim, Germany four years ago, and I just HAD to have one! So much TONE and SOUND in such a small box for such a ridiculously low price! I own a couple old FENDER amps, but ever since I bought this one, it has become my go-to amp for touring and any live situation. The clean channel has almost dream-like clear, chimey, creamy clean tones, close to my favourite FENDER amps and the gain channel has an almost MARSHALL-like crunch! Like packing two classic favourites in one tiny but ferocious parcel! Also, I am not the youngest any longer and I now don't have to break my increasingly more vulnerable back to drag an AWESOME sound onto the stages of this world - I now have it in a practical (and aesthetic!) gig bag on my shoulder! Bravo, PEAVEY! You did it AGAIN!!!!
I went in a guitar shop a few years ago for something like strings or a drum head or something...Can't remember. Walked out with this used but basically new head. I think I tried a cheap Gretch and this is what they plugged me into because it was closest. Now, I just happened to have a matching 115E 15" cab from the 90's and I run it into that and it's just stupid good.
Always liked the Classic series. Had a Classic 30 combo for a while, little too much for my needs. Got to get to the UK again, just so I can meet Dagan in person.
I've owned the 30 watts Blues 210 for over 20 years never Had anything but compliments On the sound. Seriously undervalued Excellent amp. Keep Peavey in The back of your head when Thinking about your next amp.
I usually purchase only old Peavey USA gear on the cheap, but I got one of these on store credit for a return. It sounds like my old classic 30. It runs hot so just hit the back with a small fan. It’s digital verb, but that’s alright. Sturdy, versatile and lite this beast is sweet for home or gigs. The smaller logo in the oval fit better!
Yes, mine runs hot as well. I keep the amp and matching cab sitting on 2x4s in a modified Harbor Freight tool cart with my pedals inside the single drawer. The wood sets everything at a usable angle and allows airflow. Beside the amp is a Bereinger 6 channel mixer for background and vocals. The whole thing is in wheels.
Just bought an oldie. Hope the cleans are right for metal pedals. Will use a HT Boost as preamp or in the loop. Should do another video with the 2 Notes!
Sounds like a digital transistor amp. Wondering if the JJ EL844 low output tubes would help. I just received a matched pair to try in a Peavey VK 20 MH. I'll play with the bias a bit.
does speaker defeat means you can disconnect the cab or it means that it gives you the direct out without the emulated speaker so you can use your own ir? Second option would be cool but this is too old I suppose..
I use my Peavey Classic 30 thru a Marshal 1960a 4x12 GT 75s, with an attenuator, with the PRE set between 9 and 12, the Classic gives you a great Marshal plexi sound with better tone. I would advise anyone with a Classic to run it thru a 2x12 or 4x12 cab speakers of your choice, it is a beast of an AMP only let down by its blue marvel speaker, and if you have been using a classic for a number of years, then run it thru a Marshal or EVH and hear the difference its a real rock monster.
I thought the same so did some research, it looks like Peavey tweaked the power amp section between the original version (with the circle logo) and the new version (with the sharp logo). I agree the old one always sounded horrible which was disappointing as the vk mk2 and 6505 are both great
I know I'm a little late to the party here but can anyone answer why apart from the logo being different on this model ( no oval around the Peavey writing), why is the front control panel a different colour. Some are silver, some are black and people seem to be saying this one without the oval logo has a better overall sound. Can anyone shed any light on this?
That the best i use to have the 20 w Peavey classic 20 combo sound Nice but no reverb on IT In Warranty registration Peavey ask what i want?a small head Them for a Peavey mini head ,and IT came to thrue thank,s Peavey for it That,s the best amp for me i,'m A 80's métal and blues Guy I have the classic 20 mini head and the 112 cab sound nice
I Buy bought IT 500$ on Kijiji And New cab 500$ because un Canada the price 1700$ For the cabinet and the head !b but look for IT ,cool 5watt and1 watt mode, cool if your in a appartement not to Disturbed your neighboard and the Cobo Peavey classic 20 sound good and have head phone out
I'm not trying to be rude, but use your ears...I hear great Hendrix and SRV tones! Pink Floyd stuff would sound great too. I would think you would just need a fuzz pedal and a delay pedal. Research Gilmour's rig and I think you can get his tones with a couple of affordable extras.
Is it real tweed fabric covering, like you'll find on a Fender amp, or is it vinyl printed to look like tweed? I had a Classic 30 combo for a short time, and the fake tweed finish, along with some quality issues, helped me decide to send it back to the supplier. I've had other Peavey amps and find them generally very good.
I just ordered one of these on Reverb and was mega pissed to learn that it wasn’t real tweed fabric when I pulled it out of the box. It is tolex that is tweed patterned.
@@elimogenson3316 Shame about that, because it _does_ affect the way we feel about the product. It would have been better if they'd used tolex with a unique texture, pattern and/or colour that was nothing like tweed, to differentiate it from other amps.
I love how it looks and I wouldn't change it if I could. Yep, it's not a real tweed, but this fabric costs a lot and would add to the price. Plus, it would be harder to keep it clean if something happens.
I love this channel but I can't buy from PMT because I (guess I) they don't ship to the US. (I guess?) I sent an email asking and got no reply. I said I wanted to buy a guitar from Dagan!
Did they rework the Classic 20MH head or something? I had the head for a short while (circular emblem type logo) and it sounded NOTHING like this. I was actually pretty disappointed. This sounds absolutely killer.
I also noticed several new videos on this head coming out recently with the new logo design. I've been wondering this whole time if its actually different than the previous circle logo head. I'm gonna guess not but the whole change and new videos thing kinda strange.
@@DKprojects9 I asked my Sweetwater rep a while ago, he did say they did tweak it a little bit. I bought the circular logo one a while back and returned it like a day or two later. Sounded really muffled and muddy, and it had this really weird..."woofy" pick attack. Video sounds like a proper tweed.
I have a bucket list for the best inexpensive Peavy amp and cab. I've just started researching so if anyone has suggestions PLEASE let me know because I want options for clean and dirt options. I currently don't have a tube amp. Even if it's not Peavy let me know.
If you can find an old Peavey Ultra or Bravo you can't go wrong. Ultra is a 3-channel amp with clean, crunch, and ultra channels. Pretty much fender-y clean, crunch is similar to the Peavey Classics, and Ultra is somewhere between a 5150 and Mesa Rectifier. Bravo is a small, 2-channel tube combo and is one of the better sounding amps I've ever played.
As someone who has owned a Classic 50 2x12 and still owns an original Classic 20 combo from the 90’s they are killer sounding amps and crazy bargains. Still having player turn the last 30 years, the Peavey logo is still one of the ugliest things ever.
Hahaha so true about the emblem. Im not sure if it came to be in the 50’s and 60’s with Hartley Peavy, I feel like is screams vintage 1980’s / early 90’s Spuds Mackenzie, MTV Spring Break, and Saved By the Bell.

I have a love/hate relationship with this channel…I love everything and hate I can’t afford the gear hahaha . Brilliant demo as always you rock 🤘🤘
As always with your videos, you do the best example of this amazing modern version of the iconic Peavey Classic line
The cleans is the magic on the Peavey classics. Add an EVH overdrive for the gain 😀
I absolutely love my classic 30. The tone is so alive. Really liking this little 20 head.👍
Quite literally the best amp I’ve ever owned. Picked it up on reverb for $399! Kinda feel like I robbed the guy lol
Finally! A decent, in-depth review of this little beast. Cheers.
That sounds sweet and dirty ! Diggin the sound of the Strat with that amp !!!👍👍🔥

Thank you Guitar Russell Brandt
Man those mini heads sound huge!
I crank my 20 head, full gain and full mids push it into Marshall plexi territory. Love it 🤘
I have one…its awesome! I have mine hooked to Marshall 4x12… with Celestion G12M Greenbacks.. sweeter then yoohoo. 🤘😎🎸
What kind of tunes you get out of it?
I agree that this amp is great, but NOTHING is sweeter than Yoohoo 😁
Would this head and a 2×12 cab be a good rig to start gigging with?
Just bought an oldie.
Hope the cleans are right for metal pedals.

That strat is gorgeous. Anybody know what model it is exactly? Thanks in advance.
Do you know if there is any sound difference between this new version and the older Classic 20 mini head with the oval Peavey logo?
I’m curious about this as well. Without researching both I just bought the oval one. Hopefully it’s the right choice haha
Nice demo

Is its clean sounds like a Fender tweed deluxe?
is this a newer version? I don't remember any Peavey Classic 20 Mini Head sounding this good.
How the fuck can you get these tones ? This sounds way better than any other review of this lil amp

Would have liked to have heard a humbucker guitar with this setup.
That strat is a hss setup
Anyone else notice that the reverb adds a slight chorus effect after about half or so?
For playing pink floyd and jimi hendrix srv this amp is good please ?

Is there an amp that has the cleanness of the classic 20, but the crunchiness and the heaviness of the 6505? I want one so bad!
Valve king is kinda in the middle. I think the circuit is closer to the Ultra+/Triple X/JSX etc. it’s not a 5150, but it should have loads of gain.

Time to grab this and whack my hm2 through it
