A year ago I blasted @peavey and said they had sold out. The GM of Peavey called me and we talked for over an hour. I was moved by how compassionate he was to his workers and their customers(our favorite dealers across the US) and he, the GM, was running the warehouse, fulfilling orders to make sure his employees were home safe and his dealers got product to protect their businesses.
This won me back. It is just the good and right thing to do. They sent me an amp as a thanks for the support and I am so grateful.
One of my first amps when I was in middle school was a peavey bandit. I used and abused that amp into college, then I moved into the tube amp world. That bandit to this day is one of the best sounding amps I have ever owned. What an awesome company to send you that classic 20. It also says that you are doing good things Jeremy. Keep it up man 🤘
I've always said Peavey is the "Working man's amp". solid reliable gear.
I've never found a non tube amp as good as my USA bandit 112 redstripe. I also have a peavy classic 30 USA that I'm in love with. Sold my blues Jr when I found it
I loved my friends bandit 112. For metal. It sounded so good.
Peavey always has been at the top of my list as one of the best with its products in my experience since the 70’s. Heck I still have microphones of theirs from 1975 that are great. I don’t have any of their amps still but have come close to picking one up for acoustic guitars. Great stuff...
That reverb is mimicking the sound of the real spring reverb of the older classic 30 amps, etc. It sounds very much like my old classic 30 heads reverb.
Thought the same thing when I heard it. Sounded just like my spring reverb in my Classic 30
I just picked one of these up after considering countless heads. It greatly exceeded my hopes and expectations, The cleans are as sparkling as any of the many Fender amps i have ever owned or played through, and the gain tones, which can be immediately accessed through the foot switch, are incredible. I was immediately able to get rid of two of my pedals. The features and versatility this beautiful, compact amp offers are truly amazing!
First chrods got you a new subscriber. Loved that tone.
I own a pile of Peaveys tube and solid state plus a few guitars, PA and so on. One of my favorite products as a player. At 73 I have had my share of all brands. Peavey stands out for durability and products support. I know things have changed and manufacturing has shifted overseas. But my experience with Peavey is all positive for 40 plus years.
Good summation. I'm in the UK and have the same rig, amp and cab. Brilliant kit all round. Looks cool and is very versatile: I use it in my home studio and my band.
Is it loud enough for standard pub gigs ? I’ve always had a min of 30 watts in my combos but looking downsize a bit due to a dodgy back……Cheers
@@swissanthony Same here! Yes, it's fine for pub gigs, in fact I play with it at the 5w setting.
Every company has it's problems...it's how they deal with it that separates the good companies from the bad. Peavey is a winner.
Going on my 3rd year of the MINI HEAD Classic 20 and love it. Currently using it direct to my Mac via USB. Sounds great! On jam nights, I run it with the cabinet and it's never been not loud enough! #Peavey
I recently ordered one of these.
Thanks for posting and bringing me in from the dark.
The part with your children was classic / priceless. 😂 I have 4 boys, so I can TOTALLY relate. Your response was hilarious. 😂
The 90’s Peavey 5150 amps still are top notch in my opinion, but very loud.
Classy move peavey. You make great amps. I have owned several. Gonna check the mini out
Love your humility and telling this story. Peavey is a great american company -- and that Classic 20 is a perfect solution for so many people!
This amp head is a home run for Peavey. So amazing. There isn't anything it can't do.
This video just made me order the amp and cab from Sweetwater. It's out of stock but I will gladly wait. Great video!
You'll love it! Such a fun amp
Peavey is right there with fender and gibson in my book Peavey Rocks 🤘😎
Yes!!!! I have a Peavy Classic 50 stashed at my parents house. Haven't turned it on in....25yrs....damn, I gotta get my hands on it
Tell me how it goes!
Best it out, man! That's probably my favorite amp of all time, it's super flexible
Peavey makes really great stuff, but they've been having a hard time getting products delivered on time from overseas since Covid. I think they realized the problems with the overseas manufacturing business model a bit late, but that doesn't mean they don't care, and aren't trying to make awesome stuff. The C20MH is a killer little unit!
I have loved mine!
I've always loved Peavey, and use the Classic 20 MH on a regular basis playing out. It's nothing short of awesome and I've gotten compliments on my tone from touring musicians. I use a fair amount of delay/reverb/chorus, etc...at times and was once told by a pro bassist that my tone was the closest to The Edge's he'd ever heard. That was never my goal, but I'll gladly take the compliment. I've got about 1% of the outboard gear compared with The Edge, and no 1963 AC30s [I did have a nice AD30 but sold it]. Peavey is great for me. I'm not a gear snob. I play what I like and don't care what people think of my gear. I'm an analog design EE and when working for a very large semiconductor company I was contacted by a design engineer from Peavey who was working on some of their video oriented products at the time and needed some help. It was awesome to work with an engineer at Peavey! Thank you Hartley Peavey for starting and running a great gear company!
My setup as well. Absolutely LOVE it!!
Thank you for sharing your experience with Peavey. I would like to hear some of your videos with this thing mic’ed.
Very cool my friend. I never liked Peavey products to a few years ago, now I'm a HUGE Peavey amp fan. So glad that they reached out to you like that. I too seen that Undercover Boss episode & it left a bad taste in my mouth...but I've been converted back.
My oldest son has a Peavey Classic 50 2x12 he uses & loves. I'll get one someday, Lord willing
I use to own 3 different Peavey Classic series amps (plus matching cabs)...a Delta Blues 210 combo with a Classic 115 cab (just in case!), a Classic 30 112 combo with a matching Classic 112 cab (similar to the one in this video but I doubt that the stock speaker was a Celestion), and a Classic 20 110 combo. The Classic 20 is still with me, and will be for quite some time. If I ever get my guitar chops together, I just might have to upgrade to the Classic 20 Mini Head. PS) I have a great Peavey "customer/dealer service" story about my former Delta Blues 210. LMK if you want to hear it. Your story about the Peavey GM reminded me of it.
I have used multiple peavey amps over the years. Whether they were mine or someone else’s. I used to have a Peavey Special 212 red stripe series that I sold to a friend. It was an amazing amp, especially since it was solid state. I dont know if there is anyone that makes a better SS amp than Peavey. I now own the 6505MH 20 version. Its an amazing amp. I was considering this when I was looking to purchase though. The Peavey MH series is amazing for all the features you get and at a good price, whether new or used. I think I will always own at least one Peavey amp for the remainder of my playing life. Amazing products!
Nice vidéo i bought m'y Peavey classic 20 mini head ! With the 112 Cabinet ! Real Nice
i got a classic 50 already I'm going to a 20 for fun now great vid
I've got one of these (classic 20 mini head)......I've been very happy with it for the year I've owned it.
me too
I play a Boss Katana because of this issue. Been looking at new Marshall DSL series as well as Blackstar for tube options with headphone ability. I’ve always liked Peavey classic amps so I’m gonna look into this.
Peavey has always been great . Ive got a Valve king (original)combo think its 40/50 watts with a weber red speaker and it is OUTSTANDING tonally and will PEEL THE PAINT off the walls loud , never need that volume , lmao ! bought the Peavey 212-6 with green backs (superior value in cabinets) not long ago , and have been using bogner solid state mini head (sound s great thru green backs). . but want tube head was considering Marshall origin 20 , but think the CLASSIC20 should reside atop the cabinet !!
the entire mini head line is superb - I had a 6505+ mini head - silent recording was great through the xlr out - as a singer, channel changing and effect changing became a tap dance - didn't know about midi converter boxes at the time so ... I no longer have the mini head but I definitely will get another one day
They're so strong. I'm amazed at how heavy the classic 20 can be.
How does midi work with guitar amps? I never really knew.
@@ErrorlVlacro it doesn't really work "with" - it tells the amp what to do - so if you have a patch where you need the clean channel of the amp, a midi controller can change the amp channel at the same time as triggering other effects - then when you want distortion a single button press can control pedals and amps etc...
Currently in the market for a Peavey 20/30 watt head or combo amp. I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and used to visit the shop when I was young and had no money. I've picked up a couple USA predators recently and they are just as awesome as any other guitar I've owned.🤘😎 Peavey indeed rocks!
I have a peavey cirrus 5 string bass. Bought it new over 20 years ago. I’ve played that thing in MANY studio sessions! I’m a peavey man! Looking to get some nee bass amp gear soon for shows so gonna check out what they have out these days.
I own it and recently watched another video about this amp and realised that even though I've been playing it I've never really explored it.
What really shocked me is the versatility of this small amp. Of course it does all the cleans and the blueses and the Rock stuff. BUT if you scoop the mids a bit and crank the gain and choose a high output guitar you can actually get into high gain territory. Which I did NOT expect from this amp.
The only thing that bums me is that it doesn't have a master volume. I really wish it did. Put aside from that I love this little box to death.
Peavey is just flat out Americana, man. The story behind the company, all the stages their amps have been on, how everyones first amp from the 80s until the mid 2000's was a bandit, how they brought cnc into guitar building and how you can still rattle the shingles off your garage with one of those old bandits from the 80s cuz they were tanks. Great company and products. 🍻
Preach! I totally agree!
The World I Know 🤘. Been considering this amp. Great vid buddy 🤘🙂
How about some info on the guitar I like it?
I love mine. Bought it when I plugged a guitar I wanted buy in to test the guitar. Bought the amp instead. Happy accident.
I play it through a matching tweed 115E cab I had from the 90's. Killer
I agree peavey is a good company but the issues I’ve dealt with was equipment that crapped out, getting it fixed for the customer was a hassle. They fought with us tooth and nail to get anything done.
Great video but I did have to chuckle a little when he said it's also a metal amp. 6505mh is a metal amp. I've got a Revv G20 and Im getting this Classic 20 to be my "2nd" channel mid gain channel. That's what this amp is for. Wanna play Bonamassa or alternative rock? This amp is for you. Metal? Go 5150/6505. That being said I have supported Peavey for 20+ years, from Bandits, bass amps, Triple XXX 2 12 combo amp (that I miss dearly) to a Budda Superdrive 80. I know for a fact they are a passionate company in the music industry. They bought and kept alive the best amps in the world, Budda. Those who know Budda... know. That shows their love towards tone. Really though great video and playing.
I Have That same Amp and Set up all the Peavey amps are Great !
I watched that video when I was thinking about getting Peavey Classic. It was a bummer, but I couldn't fault you for anything you said. I still don't have a Peavey Classic, but I'm also glad I didn't sell my Valveking micro either! I'll probably pick up a classic one day.
The valve king is killer too!
Hey Jeremy love the PV. But let’s see and hear that little Gibson you have over there in the back of the wall: that’s what interests me. I’ve got a little 54 - very similar - little five watt. wonderful amp
What made you get rid of this? Sounds so good
That’s some serious good tones there… Ha ha I’ve been a PV fan for a while. I’ve kind of straight away from them for a little bit. I had quite a few people use in the past. Red stripe bandit, I had two of those. I don’t know why I got rid of it. I had a 79 PV mace. That thing was a beast. It had to been 80 pounds. I’ve been looking for a new amp and I’ve always been a fan of the classics 30 combo. Early 90s… Really not sure what direction I want to go in right now. How’s the clean headroom of the classic 20 head with the cabinet? Thank you great video
Really respect what you said about the company. And the features on this amp are great. But the sound just won't work for me (hunting for Fender clean but with better features - practically impossible). All power to people who like this sound. Hope they buy it.
This is the amp that my local guitar store uses for people who want to test the guitars
Wow second video I have watched on this amp head and I’m sold. I’ve been shopping for ages for a Marshall head that useable at home and they don’t seem to exist for the tones I want. This Peavey seems to tick them boxes for me with that Marshall plexi type tone to my ears
It's the Mississippi Marshall!
@@JeremySheppard instantly sounded like a Marshall with the gain for me 😁 perfect and exactly what I am looking for in an amp for home use. Next on the purchase list 👌🏻 thanks for the video
Love that guitar. What is it?
Nice 👍
I have the Delta blues 115. Best sounding amp I've ever owned after 30 years of playing Fender amps. Love the clean and the drive channel. That being said, how close is the tone on the 20 to the Delta blues? I'd like to get one for hauling to gigs. Thanks
Your kids sounded like a drummer playing.
so can you play without a speaker attached then? Like lets say with the defeat enabled but no cab attached?
Ask Peavey Dealers how it is to actually work with them, especially the smaller ones. My local shop has had issues that are 4 years on and not resolved. I would LOVE for them to turn around. I would be happy to buy an American owned company amp and gear.
We had a great Peavey rep when I worked for a small shop from 2005 to 2013
@@JeremySheppard I hope they come back and really start making tough great sounding gear again. I am glad you had a good experience with them. Nice of you to do the video and give them a second chance. Great channel
I like all brands, peavy I have nothing against some guys like it, it's just not on my buy list. I don't think anything is bad, it's just some people like certain things for certain reason. I learned just because I don't like it, it doesn't mean it's bad. Someone told me to check out this head, I would buy it if I found it used for good deal just to collect one but again, I don't think it's bad... I don't label peavy as bad, peavy is just different much like other brands perfects and flaws can be found! Some folks find diamonds within imperfections.
Impressed with the GM calling you. Is the sound quality of the headphone good? I'm debating on which to get, the combo or the head I have a couple blackstars and their emulated headphone out is fantastic. Thanks!
I tried one of these amps at the local guitar store a couple years ago and couldn't put the volume past three without shaking the rafters. Would love one. Scheming now on how to scrape up some cash as they start around $500 or $600, or $400 used. It's got all the bells and whistles I'd need - especially the headphones, and then there's being able to play along with any other media - UA-cams, iphone, etc.
You can use the power scaling on the back and take it down to 1 watt
Nice review! I love this amp and also made a review on it. But honestly, the cabinet simulation is just terrible. It is super dark and mushy. It sounds nothing like the real amp+cabinet... I recommend adding an impulse response for a better speaker cabinet simulation
I agree. I need to try adding an IR.
Let's hear a Strat through the Peavey.
Truly sounds great. Can’t get past their logo for some reason though. It just says “80s hair metal” for me and I can’t get over it. I know that’s my issue though, not theirs.
I get it. I love it but it's aggressive!
Agree 100% it looks especially out of place on tweed models.
I'm listening through earphones to me ot sound.like there is a blanket of this amp or treble is completely at zero..other reviews sound great though...puzzled
How do you feel about it now?
I kept this for years. Eventually sold it because the DI didn't sound great.
I've seen nothing but complaints on using that di out into a front of house mixer have you seen any problems using that di out with tone I'd like to use it at church and send it to the mixing board and still have it on stage monitor at low levels thanks for your video keep up the good work!
It sounds a little fizzy unless you tweak it. I've used it a couple times and have had to tweak while listening through the house speakers.
@@JeremySheppard great is there any chance you could just give me some pointers on what you had to tweak to help myself and my sound technician save some time and frustration thank youI mainly will be playing it in the clean channel and using my pedals to overdrive it
Can you use the DI out to a PA and use a regular cab simultaneously?
Can both use together, DI and regular input?
Yes, you can use the DI out and cab simultaneously. you could dial in stage volume and then just use DI for mains. Not sure I understand your second question.
@@JeremySheppard Thanks much for your answer. The first question and second question is the same.
Nice. 🤘
I wonder if a guy from the loading dock was pretending to be the GM. Doesn't matter. I think Peavey has a great line up of gear.
And send him an amp? Probably not.
I have the same setup! Really enjoying it. But when i plug it straight into my interface/headphones whatever with the msdi, I hear a sort of buzz/fizz and i have to turn the level all the way down (at 2!). Do you have the same issue? Or a clue whats going on?
Usually happens with amps without cab emulation, but I thought it had it
Hi Jeremy, am I right in thinking you can just plug headphones into the back of the amp (3.5mm input) and you’re away?
Absolutely!
Its a wonderful amp. Just too bad peaveys customer service sucks... Try emailing them and see if you ever get a response. I didn't
I've been a Peavey guy since the HEAVY Renown then went to the classic 50 combo then to various VK things like that huge VK 100 head...I now use the VK 112 combo biased hot and I do have the classic 20MH for about 4 years now.. I like the Classic 20MH but can't gig using that dirty channel..no power at all to cut though a B3 or decent drummer..I've found using the clean channel with a decent boost or slight overdrive pedal in the effects loop takes you anywhere you wanna go...The Peavey mini head is PERFECT for guys my age.....nice and light !
It sure looks nice
My Peavey Valveking 100w head was one of the most underrated amps ever, it sounded better than my mesa dual rec. No lie. I have a vypyr vip 20w that suffers from several quality issues though so I can see why people would not like them.
A VK sounded better than your Dual Rec? Maybe you should learn to use the Dual Rec.
@@j.d.2230 funny little civnat, the dual rec is almost as bad as you giving your country away to 3rd world. 🤣
Is there a lot of feedback from the head? I know its not exactly a hi gain amplifier but I still had to ask
It can get squealy for sure but not that bad.
Is this loud enough for play with a band and 12” speaker?
Yes. Absolutely. But it has the added feature of running into a PA so you could add yourself to the mix.
Peavey - The Best!!!
Would you say this amp has a lot of headroom for pedals?
Surprisingly yes on the clean side
How does it sound through the headphones? I've also been looking for a tube amp with a decent headphone out but can't really get any to replicate the sound of the amp too well.
These sound ok. They're very DI sounding. The boss headphones are supposed to be great for making it sound like there is an amp in the room with you
Are you using any pedals at all or just the amp?
I'm using a walrus audio fathom reverb on the big spacy parts. I may have been using a tube screamer as well.
What, what exactly do you regret about your previous video "The Problem with Peavey"? Did they hire back all the folks they pulled the rug out from under?
Ha! I just sold one of these to a neighbor of yours. Do you know Dan Easley, formerly of WMRA? I loved my classic 20, it just wasn't getting any playing time, and Dan needed an amp for recording. I hope you both get lots of use out of them
If the CEO works hard for his customers, but 1800 people lost their jobs I’m not sure that balances out. I think all of your criticisms of Peavey sounded fair and a nice amp and a chat with one PR guy doesn’t change anything.
Caring about your dealers and your staff are two very different things.
Many companies were forced to make hard decisions if they even made it.
I'm willing to pay extra for USA made musical equipment , when i saw Made In China on the back of that mini head I was done, sorry I don't buy China when it comes to amps or guitars . There is plenty of used USA stuff out there that is great quality.
It's getting trickier to find competitive Made in USA gear, especially when you start wanting features like DI out, USB out, attenuation, etc.
@@JeremySheppard Good Point I didn't think of this . Not sure if you watch the 5 Watt world with Keith Williams he just a review of the Revv 20 watt mini heads, interesting indeed. Peace and stay well please !
Jeremy Sheppard
It’s all out there, but you have to be willing to spend the extra money to buy American. Unfortunately, so many Americans either can’t afford to do that or simply choose not to do it. This is true of music gear as well as many other products. Other unfortunate thing related specifically to music gear is the fact that quite a bit of the foreign made gear (even the Chinese made gear) is of much higher quality than it has ever been in the past, AND some consumers have the perception that certain American companies have had a decline in quality.
Yea man, I wish my Peavey said Meridian Mississippi on the back instead of China. And thats why Im getting rid of it. I have the Classic 30 too. Its awesome, but I just cant fuck with China.
What ever happened to the sovtek? Did u sell, r u wanting to sell
Sold it a while ago. Here's the video. ua-cam.com/video/gX5cSrfHDNc/v-deo.html
@@JeremySheppard sorry i couldve probably found that out on my own, also do you know of any super reverb type amps that arent made by fender?
That's a good question. I would guess milkman. I'll poke around.

how many times have you said the peavey boss/gm cared deeply about his employees? after seeing how peavey treated their employees on undercover boss, your comments are disgusting and little more than a peavey promotional PR video, and I'm not biased towards peavey as I play and gig thru 2 classic 30 heads into Marshall 4x12 Cabs and rehearsing I use an attenuator which any one can use in their bedroom and get the full power of the amp with the gritty break up of the tube sound at low levels.
They're not the same person. Also, the undercover boss episode is nearly 10 years old. This was Fred Pool who is still the president and on a lot of their UA-cam videos.
he was the boss when I bought my classic 30's and Peavey have never treated their employees fairly, unless its the prison workers building Peavey products, just ask George Lynch.@@JeremySheppard
Gritty Skate-punk sure. Gritty metal? Not by its self.
Interesting video, but simulated output sounds really poor, very cheap dull tone. In today's world there is no point of using such solutions for silent practice and recording - any cheap digital amp or processor / vst will give you much much better tone.
So after a phone call and a free amp, you're a Peavey fan boy? What just flew out of the room? Oh, it was your credibility.
😂
I'm a cheap date
So you get a free head and cab, and you give it a rave review.
Yea, no bias there.

@@kmichaelp4508 I try to buy American when I can to help Americans. Chinese use too much lead in there products. All my musical gear is American.
Let’s vote with our wallets whenever we can and buy American, even if it’s Central or South American. It’s easier to do than one might think.
Infidel 62 , oh I agree 100%!!!! I’m just saying Americans are so dependent on foreign made goods at cheap prices to meet our lifestyles.
