@TheVinylOrchard. Thanks for your work on this video. Back in May 1975 I saw Bachman Turner Overdrive I concert at the (then) Hammersmith Odeon. Believe it or not, Thin Lizzy were the support band! Don’t think any of that particular show was recorded for “Live And Dangerous” but Lynott, Robertson, Gorham and Downey were on top form. I have been a Thin Lizzy fan ever since. Keep up the good work. Stay safe and well.
I've got most of these TL in my collection but have overlooked them for many years, but thanks to your informative and indepth rundown on albums and deep cuts, I'll be giving a much anticipated listen very soon...thanks for igniting a spark again on this great band and it's legendary personnel!!!
Johnny the fox, renegade, jailbreak, thunder n lightning, bad reputation. Great video content, I've been a fan since 1970s . Bought dancing in the moonlight when it came out. Cheers.
Johnny the Fox always seems to get overlooked but it's still a strong album. I saw them in '80' and '81 and wished I'd seen them with Brian Robertson in the band. Slightly envious of your record collection and wonder how you've acquired so many rarities ? ! My favourite track is the live version of Rosalie.
What a band and what a loss ! Definitely in my top 5 bands of all time. Loads of sublime songs but Waiting for an Alibi, Don´t Believe a Word and Emerald are just peerless......
Recently got to like Thunder. I have strangely always struggled with JTF. I think it suffers from the usual poor studio production that Thin Lizzy fell foul of. A bit light in places
Thanks, Chris, 'Jailbreak'is my favourite album as well. It is very collectable (as most records on Vertigo are), and contains timeless classics on it, which still get much radio-play nerly fifty years after it came out.
Thin Lizzy are just that special band and even though I wasn't born or around during their heyday I got to know their music in my early 20s in the early 2000s my top 5 albums are Johnny the fox, fighting, renegade, thunder and lightning and Chinatown top 5 songs are angel of death, johnny, cold sweat, hey you and the holy war
@TheVinylOrchard huge fan of their later stuff also even though it's not an official thin Lizzy song it's a solo Gary Moore song with Phil lynnot out in the fields to bad it's the last song Phil did before he died
My top 5 lps are Fighting, Chinatown, Johnny the Fox, Bad Reputation and Jailbreak. Agree about Brian Downey, a really underrated drummer he could really smash those skins & great he has his version of the band Brian Downey's Alive and Dangerous" Have 2 versions of that 12" ep & yes great take of Opium Trail & the one released here in Australia with live Chinatown and Got to Give it up replacing Opium Trail & Are You Ready Have also another 12" of Cold Sweat with 2 live at the Hammersmith Odieon 1981 of Angel of Desth and Dont Believe a Word. Good discussion can never get enough of them, so sad Phil left us to soon, glad Scott cleaned up his act in time as he was heading the same way. Good one 👍🤘
Oh Chris thank you so very much for highlighting one of my all time favorite bands never ever got to see them live with their classic line up saw the tribute band once they were awesome one of the best tribute bands and I’ve seen a few believe me thanks again for posting this it brought back so many great memories all the best STEVE
Fantastic video and hard to argue with you're picks. Me personally I like two tracks off vagabonds of the western world. Title track and randolfs tango. Also tracks like sugar blues from China Town and jonny and borderline from jonny the fox. Could keep listing favourite album tracks cause there's so many. Really entertaining video and gonna watch your black sabbath one now.
Hi Chris, Just discovered the channel and love the content. We seem to have a very similar taste in music. I've just started my journey back into vinyl after pulling my records out of more than 25 years in storage and decided to start a channel to share the journey back into vinyl. Your channel is inspirational and you have an amazing collection.
Hi Chris, Now im older and may i say wiser, Thin Lizzy were one of my guilty pleasures. I always rated them but being a punk in 70's and very early 80s, the pubs and clubs i went to were not quite likeable to that sort of thing, unless it was Motorhead of course. I never knew that Rosalie was a Bob Seger song either, you learn something new everyday. Great video. Cheers.
Hi chris that is a fantastic picture sleeve single jailbreak, don't believe a word l agree with you that guitar solo l am with you chris the boys are back in town a great single their best, l still like whisky in the jar.
Have a look at the rocker video it’s on utube and probably other platforms the guitar playing in this video is just amazing what a player lynott was so underrated as a guitarist but definitely not by me 🎸
@deborahtaylor6398. You may already know this. The single version of “The Rocker” was edited down from the original LP version to fit on those old fashioned 45rpm vinyl records. I can vaguely remember that the record company edited out most of Eric Bell’s phased guitar solo. The full blown LP version is much better. My neighbours have grown to like it………
To me there are two periods of Thin Lizzy; the three piece and the after. While i do like most of the stuff of the three piece, it's the after that i really love. I can't really name my fave song or album, only that Chinatown would be the last of the great albums simply because it's the only album to have a track that i don't like. And even that i would like had it been cut shorter, as it is, it has too much repetition, The Killing of the Buffalo. Pasi
The best live band I ever saw live, I think the type of music has a lot to do with that. I think they are a bit underrated, they were more musical than most bands of that kind of music.
Loving this! A truly classic band, in all its line-up permutations. But … while the songwriting and musicianship are beyond reproach, I’ve always felt that they were somewhat let down by the production and mixing on many of their studio albums. It’s all too easily simply to compare the studio production with that of Live And Dangerous (which is properly epic), but compared to some of their British contemporaries such as AC/DC & UFO, I think they just lack the hoped-for ‘punch’.
Production was pretty much always lacklustre. I always think that’s why the thunder and lightning album sounds rockier. It’s just better produced possibly. Nightlife, fighting and JTF all suffered from being too sanitised. Cheers my friend, Chris
HNY Chris - a great band to start off your 2025 posts. My favourite line up was Lynott, Downey, Gorman and Robertson. Never liked any of the songs with Moore on guitar. In my opinion (which means nothing to the YT army 😁), I always thought that he believed his talents and persona were way too big for the band - which of course they/he weren't.
I think it was the lifestyle that put him off the band tbh. I saw them with GM in Bournemouth. He was astonishing. Quite simply one of the best rock guitarists ever IMO
@@TheVinylOrchard I do get that Chris but on this occasion I cannot concur with your musical tastes 😆. There aren't many people in this world that I can do without and GM makes the list. However, it's a case of 'each to their own' as the saying goes 😁. I still enjoyed the post BTW 👍
Music is so personal. About to post a video about artists I cannot connect with. Inevitably going to irritate a few 😂. I like differences in opinion to be honest. Makes it more interesting. Cheers my friend
@@TheVinylOrchard Looking forward to that one - I know GM wont be on it 🤣🤣, but I'm sure I will agree with the majority of your picks. Great idea for a post! Thanks Chris
Excellent choices in my view. Thin Lizzie were a great singles band, a bit like The Clash. Róisín Dubh is great fun to play along to and probably my favourite of theirs. Stuart Adamson probably loved it 😊
Also a little known fact or perhaps a well known fact I’m not so sure midge ure of later ultravox fame was in thin lizzy maybe late 70s early 80s only briefly though maybe only for one tour maybe Chris could enlighten us a bit more and confirm this 🤔
He toured with them and I did mention a single on this video that he overdubbed guitar on to. He played guitar on Us tour and Keyboard and guitar on Japanese tour. There is a recording of him playing whiskey in the jar which is on the deluxe version of Chinatown, which is very good

LAD was recorded in 76 and 77. That was the best incarnation of the band I think
Thanks for your support Mark. Most appreciated

Johnny the fox, renegade, jailbreak, thunder n lightning, bad reputation.
Great video content, I've been a fan since 1970s . Bought dancing in the moonlight when it came out. Cheers.
Been a fan since I first saw them in 77. Great band. Cheers Dave. Thank you for your support, Chris
A most exceptionally rocking band!
Indeed so!
Johnny the Fox always seems to get overlooked but it's still a strong album. I saw them in '80' and '81 and wished I'd seen them with Brian Robertson in the band. None of these thin lizzy records are rarities. Maybe the thunder and lightning with extra 12”
Excellent collection agree with top album my fav song is killer on the loose
Great track. Cheers James

Such a great live band. Privileged to have seen them
@TheVinylOrchard I was lucky enough to see them once in Brighton, amazing.
Hi Chris! What can I say spot on, great choices back to my teens! Mmm Thunder and lightning? Johnny the Fox for me! 😂 but wonderful stuff! 👍
Recently got to like Thunder. I have strangely always struggled with JTF. I think it suffers from the usual poor studio production that Thin Lizzy fell foul of. A bit light in places
It does suffer following it's older brother Jailbreak! You are right about the production! The box set 1976 has beefed it up!
@ianemery4355 I’ve streamed that. Excellent
@@TheVinylOrchard A top buy for me last year! 👍
@ianemery4355 haven’t been tempted tbh. But have streamed it. Excellent

Great work Chris, and word perfect about Downey on Bad Reputation. I would have tried to fit The Rocker in somewhere, but well done on this selection.
