Easy Bakery Style Mawa Cake Recipe | How to make Mawa Cake at home

Ingredients for Mawa Cake
Std Cup measurement - 250ml
All-purpose flour - 150 grams (1 cup+ 2 tbsp)
Sugar (Powdered) - 150 grams (3/4 cup)
Butter - 150 grams (1/2 cup + 2 tbsp)
Milk - 75 ml (1/4 cup )
Mawa - 125 grams (3/4 cup)
Eggs - 03 whole (for eggless - substitute 3 eggs for 3/4 cup yogurt + 1/4 tsp baking soda)
Vanilla essence - 1/2 tsp
Baking powder - 1 tsp
Salt - 1/2 tsp (if using unsalted butter)
pour into a 6 or 7 inch baking tin and bake at 170 deg C for 35 to 40 min.
Net weight of the cake after baking is approx. 650 grams.

Hello Anita! I tried this recipe and I must tell you it truly gives Parsi cafe style mawa cakes. Reminded me of my childhood Kayani and Merwaan's cakes. I baked cupcakes instead of a round cake. Thank you for giving the recipe in metric system with weights. The only difference I made was doubling the quantity of mawa as the one I had on hand wasn't too rich. This recipe is a keeper

Hi Rakhee. Pre-heat your microwave in convection mode as per instructions. Then bake at 170 deg C for 35 mins. Increase another 5 - 6 minutes if needed. Do not overbake. If your cake has not browned on the top, then switch on the grill mode for 2 mins only, you'll get a evenly brown top. Do try out and let me know how the cake turned out.

You can use 1/2 cup yogurt with 1/4 tsp baking soda. Add a little extra milk at the end if batter is too thick.

The cake will brown on top during baking🙂 If your cake is baked but not brown on top then bake for another 2 minutes with only the top rod on.

Hi, Mawa is milk solids used in making Indian sweets. It is also called Khoya. This is easily available at dairies.
We don't need to add baking soda to this?
There is no need to add baking soda. When we add baking soda we also need to add an acidic ingredient such as yogurt, lemon, vinegar to help in the rising of the cake. But for this mawa cake, the baking powder works fine. Do try out the cake and let me know how you liked it.🙂

You could add butter in the same bowl if you like Arpita, no issues.

Yes, you can Aasma but you will have to compromise on the taste. Use less butter instead and your cake will still be fine.
