Matt gave Travis three name options and he decided against all of then
Yes!
Bernardo Ribeiro THIS
Typical grog
and he was extremely proud of it, like he knew it for sure! 😂
He said “Adala” with such certainty I almost believed he was right
I mean, gotta hand it to Marish, “Adulla, ah do Love ya” is some decent wordplay for panic improv chaos.
Honestly, the song just kept on getting better!
The Sea Of Thy Soul was singing this all day long at work today, such a powerful song XD
same creative mind that brought you "Lorna... you lorn-a in my loins!"
Honestly Marisha's song is better than Sam's
@@zachary37 Looks like someone's going to find shit on their bed tonight!
My favorite thing about this is:
Liam: "There definitely wasn't a song" "Who killed the song" "If there was a song I blacked it out"
Also Liam: sings twice
Look in the background of Liams story. XD
The same thibg happened in the Jester video. Sam got back at them for hazing him.
I'm late (just watching now) but Liam did say he blacked out! So much so he forgot what he even said 😂
Sam's Version: the story Scanlan tells
Marisha's Version: The story Scanlan *lived*
Alternatively, the story MOLLYMAUK told.
@@aaronbourque5494 Laura's story is the one Molly told, he would totally add a threesome
Yeah, Molly and Scanlan would have been friend for sure if they knew each other because they have a very similar energy.
You're right and you should say it.
@@sandrineouellet3794 for some reasons reading your comment my eyes are leaking
Start: A morality tale about getting what you want.
End: A Bonnie and Clyde threesome with a rock ballad at the end.
Fuck ballad
i think you mean f*ck ballad
Travis: The song was part of the story, and Padley went to confront the goliath!
Travis is legit the antagonist of Sam removing all conflict in the previous stories x)
I believe you mean "love triangle".
I was literally about to type the same thing, 🤣
Laura: And then they had a threesome
Taliesin: Which lasted for many years
Marisha: And that's what true love is
I mean, where's the lie?
🤣
Two gnomes and goliath
And that's a good show of character for them... Laura is dirty minded, Taliesin is immortal, marisha is a romantic.
Pauley-amory
Original: Cautionary tale about being used for your generosity by someone you were infatuated with
7 versions later: the story of how Bonnie & Clyde became a throuple
🤣🤣🤣
That Pauley the delivery boy and Sudara became the Bonnie and Clyde of the land, knocking over casinos with X-ray specs was just so wicked, with Rodney joining in for a hot threesome. With as many as they could doing rock opera in the process.
The Scanlan people tell tales of vs the real Scanlan
Ashley’s retelling this round honestly wasn’t that bad. The only real problem was that she remembered all the things Travis added that weren’t in the original lol
olivia sunshine Yeah, Travis was the Sam of this round.
I mean she only listened to Travis' version
Yeah I thought it was weird how they reacted to her specifically when she did a pretty solid job, given what she got.
I'm pretty sure she re-added the part from Paule being an inventor since Travis didn't say that at all
@@Cheesus_ch I think they react that way (being very supportive, though) because she seems the most insecure about her rendition. Marisha is always a disaster, but she's more reacting like "Eh, that went like shit, no problem." while Ashley is very quick to apologize for messing things up.
Well, at least that's my 2 cents, can't really talk for them, can we? :)
Matt: Keeps backstories and voices of a thousand NPCs straight at all times
Also Matt: Gives Sudara 3 different names by the end of the story
And Travis ignored all of them..
The spirit of the story was there when matt was finished... but not the details XD XD XD
@@bsktrgt yeah Travis seemed so proud when he said "Adala" hahahah, and at the end he totally changed the story 😂 travis' adhd coming through haha
So disappointed there wasn't a Sharona.
Also, Matt is a heavy drinker.
I mean Matt also has copious amounts of notes to help him remember those NPC's
I can't wait until Critical Role comes back and they go to a tavern and there's just some random gnome rocking out on a lute enchanted with reverb singing 'AduLAH, ADUlah, I do LOVE YAH!'
Get on the Governor's case and free California.
Gotta say, as a songwriter and professional musician, I was actually super impressed with Marisha's on the spot creation. The pun to get from "Adulah" to "I do love ya" is top notch.
@Remy B
Ah, I see. This is a facts-free zone, my mistake. When California completely collapses; I hope to God that the CR crew are long gone from there. Watch some centrist news and you'll get the real picture.
@@PaoloTrepiccione Hate to break it to you man, but cali will survive. This state was one of the first to begin suffering from this pandemic and with following medical guidelines we've kept our numbers down below 3 different states (not even counting new york) that got the virus at a later point, with a lower death count when we have a significantly higher population.
Omg YES
"SAM ADDS STUFF"
Laura Bailey, last episode.
"Sooooo Liam stopped his story there, but I'll add a surprise threesome because I'm bored!"
-Laura Motherf*cking Bailey
vengeance is sweet as cupcake!!
In her defense, it came more like "Liam's had no ending so I'll make one to fix that problem", at least to me. Besides, her ending was better anyway :p
Sam basically has rewritten the other two stories. Laura added an ending to a new messed up story.
Turnabout is fair play.
"Unfortunately, Ashley Johnson not participate in this episode of Narrative Telephone. In her stead, however, we've managed to book in commercial-to-sitcom-turned-action star Gale."
"Unfortunately Gale was also unable to participate due to being gagged with a spoon by Mrs Henderson."
@@hailexiao2770 you guys are GENIUSES!
Hey girl, you got hair like daffodils, and other beautiful traits.
If she doesn't immediately jump on you after you say that... she ain't got taste.
Gonna use this as an ice breaker for dates
That's like a line from the Eric Andre show.
This sounds like a Danny Sexbang line somehow
how do you think all these guys got married
All of Ashley's retellings go like this: So there's this dude, and, like, this stuff happens. Crazy.
You know...
Ashley reminds me of Wendy from Gravity Falls.
Then half way through, you flip a coin, heads "I've added too much", tails "I've forgotten too much"
I love how Liam just mimics whoever was right before him and nails it every time.
Ashley: Ey, I'm Scanlan Shorthalt. I'm walkin' here!
Eyyyy, do you spice? Eyyy.
I love how everytime Ashley tries to imitate another cast member, she turns into Gail lol
Gag me with a spoon!
I loved that Liam then got Ashleys' storytelling mannerisms down pat! 😎
MoDean's, 2 or 3?
Gag me with a spoon, Rodney!
bearbait2010 a spoons not all I want you to gag me with.
Travis: "I didn't have an instrument!"
Also Travis: sitting directly in front of a piano
THANK YOU
He said he didn't have a an instrument hw could play since be was holding his phone in one hand
Wow I didn't even notice!
Maybe Scanlan can't play piano
Travis "I can't hold an instrument"
Also Travis: "Do you even lift bro?"
My dream order:
- Taliesin (for an interesting and dark tale)
- Laura (to immediately add in her crazy twists)
- Liam (to try and follow as closely as possible)
- Travis (to plunge story even deeper into chaos)
- Marisha (as a midpoint to summarise the bullshitery we've just gone through)
- Ashley (hopefully the details by this point have died down enough to make it easier for poor Ashley)
- Sam (to recover and inevitable add his own interpretation)
- Matt (to wrap everything up in a tidy epilogue)
@italkcrab Sam's the wildcard that gets thrown in the middle just to make sure the story gets derailed at some point lol
Yes.
italkcrab lol you didn’t put Sam anywhere
italkcrab
While I agree with Ashley starting. Liam is way better than Matt at this, he should definitely go second.
Then Matt and Travis in either order going 3rd & 4th.
Then Laura and Marisha 5th & 6th
Tal 7th
Sam at the back.
@@ashleyhoughton8592 I feel like the reason Matt has trouble with this game is that he tries to remember the entire story down to the minute details and the way each person tells it, so he suffers from information overload and panics.
I love how in Taliesin's retelling he jumps to the threesome at the end as though he's lost all the details and is only sure that that was part of the original story when it was just added by Laura.
Laura admitted to adding it in her retelling though. The whole: "That's where Liam ended it, so I'm gonna say..."
Rotsie, at the beginning: An evil Goliath prince manipulating our hero's love into giving him valuable items.
Rodney, at the end: A regular, chill half-orc down the street, writing a letter to confess his love to Sudara purely due to his feelings.
Yeah, checks out.
Rodney didn't know Sudara to be fair.
But Rodney confesses his love to Adula, not Sudara, so I say it all checks out
I dont think you remember the Scanlans story right. Rotsie and Sadara were lovers using the MC for his gifts.
And they fuck
Yeah but Rotsie was Sadara's lover all along.
Given what Sam did to the first two stories, this is the episode where literally everyone pulled a "Sam" on Sam's own story. I love it. The female lead was renamed 3 times in the first retelling, and at least a few more times in the next few tellings before they settled on a name that was quite different from the real name. And the evil Goliath tyrant became the half-orc third leg of the a threesome from the next town over.
I love how marisha’s scanlan voice is Beau trying to sound happy
Her version is Beau retelling bet
Liam with Laura's story: "I will recount this story in extreme detail and in character, accent and everything, even remembering the smallest of details, including singing the tune exactly in pitch"
Liam with Sam's story: "there was a song? I think?"
To be fair, it's probably much easier to go after the person telling the original story than it is to go after someone struggling to remember the story.
I think the joke is that Liam is copying Ashley's version of the story
But yeah, what shadow mirror said, it's a lot easier to remember a coherent narrative, rather than someone that's backtracking and correcting themselves midsentence
Liam's Ashley is actually on point.
In this case he was definitely doing the telephone of Ashley with the “ums and ahs, which he even references at the end as ‘cute as hell’.” Notice how in Ep 1 he even does things like a Willingham sniff. Very interesting to see what details each voice actor picks up in addition to the script.
Sam: "There once was a man named Paulayyyyy"
Marisha: "ADULAAAAAAA!!"
ADUUU LOVE YAAAA
@@VMLM3 This actually impressed me. :D Seemed like noone else was impressed by it to. :D
Marisha did really good with her improvised song, it really ended well!!
I feel like talisen couldn't decide to tell this story as clay or orley.
He kinnda started as Molly I think before going into the Clay/Orley mix.
@@codytheisen5655 Clorlymauk
Cant believe no one talked about how good "ADULA! ADULOVE YA!" was
Right? Right?!
Marisha's song is completely made up out of nowhere but now the best and most absolutely essential part of the story.
VonSnootingham Iconic tbh 😂
I get it stuck in my head absurdly often haha
I love how as the telephone game goes on the details get fewer and fewer and the story gets longer and longer
Sam: Alright, let's see how we did. Pauley was a poor delivery boy in love with a rich woman, named Sudara ...
Talesin, Laura, Marisha, Ashley, Liam: SHIT!
I love how it started as a story of a man trying to win the love of a woman with gifts only to find she didn’t love him, was with someone else, and was only using him for the gifts to the story of a happy couple robbing casinos together who end up in a happy polyamorous triad.
What's fascinating is this sounds more like a rationalization of current events with cam girls, than it does a mistold story.
@@2Buildor2Break camgirls are robbing banks?
Everyone: Goliath
Marisha: Half-Orc
I can totally imagine her subconcious trail of association: Goliath = Grog = Travis = Fjord = Half-Orc, therefore: Goliath = Half-Orc
But she also honestly did the best song, so.
I'm still trying to figure out where Travis got Adora or Adulla or whatever from.
Names are hard. That's about it xD Super hard to remember, especially when you follow someone who gives one person three names :D
But I guess, it's going from Matts "Sudarah", to Travis "Adallah", and Ashley then set it to "Adulah" which then stuck for the rest
Sam last episode: "I'm going to tell a nice clean story with no extraneous details."
Sam this episode: "Pince-nez"
This needs to be at the top for everyone trying to fathom that word! It took me some serious guessing and googling to find it.
Oh my god are you guys serious it's not a rare word
Дарья Швыденко You really have to use it in specific context. It’s natural that not a lot of people know it, haha. Even I had troubles understanding what he was saying and my mother tongue is french😂
@@ДарьяШвыденко it is, because not many people need to know the name for a rare style of glasses
@@thewingedporpoise i'm not saying people need to know, necessarily, it's just that the word is used so frequently it's weird that so many people don't even recognize it haha
Ashley’s retelling this time was actually really good, she picked up the names and most the details Travis said, Travis just didn’t get the stuff right. She’s definitely getting better
"and other beautiful traits..... And he was able to do something" me bullshitting an essay answer in school
Thats my whole experience throughout college. Just lots of BS.
@@badreddinekasmi8919 literally same. I don't think that experience will ever leave me lol
I absolutely LOVE how at 56:56 Ashley casually says "it's been awhile", and then Liam, Sam, Taliesin, Matt, and Marisha all proceed to sing Staind's "It's been awhile" to which Ashley clenches her fist in response
I love how Ashley Johnson the award winning actress is the absolute worst at this.
Now that I've seen how hard this sort of thing is for her, that makes me respect the work she must have put in to Blindspot that much more.
I don't consider her that bad, just a bit insecure about herself, and it shows in the way she tells the stories. She's all "oh my god this is so wrong" and all that, and sure a little bit of it will be wrong every time, that's part of the game, but she's not THAT wrong usually (at least in the first 2 versions; I'm still watching this third one! lol). But, yeah, she ain't so bad! Also, it's a different skill than acting, because acting, you have time to memorize the text, repeat multiple time, and it's more about getting into character. She only has one shot with this, so she can't rehearse the text! :p
@@ChevaliersEmeraude Good point. Also some people remember things best if they read them, some - if they listen to them, some people need to write thing down to remember (the actual act of writing does the trick). Ashley could be most comfortable with reading things but less so with listening, so it wouldn't impede her job as an actress. She is wonderful anyway, I like how she tells the stories and am looking forward to her turn to be the first. I wonder whether she plans to do it as Yasha or Pike though (hoping for Yasha).
This time she difinitly wasn't the worst. Travis messed up the story before her and she retold most of his mess quite accurate.
Ashely was definitely the worst the first time.
I think hunter beak was all her, and she was right after Matt.
But other than that she wasn't actually that bad. Sam was definitely worst the last time, at least for overall consistency and I think Taliesin was the loser this time round.
This one is actually the most even one, they all messed up some stuff and kept a lot.
As someone who has social anxiety, I am so proud of how Ashley puts herself through this over and over again because I can't even imagine being put under that kind of pressure.
As someone who loves how badly she messes up and how adorable her reactions are, I hope they never stop doing this because these videos never fail to be the highlight of my day.
Same
The faces Ashley Johnson makes in these are absolutely golden!
I'm with you. I don't think I could ever do this. It is also a big testament to how safe she feels with her friends.
Matt: Three different versions of Sudara
Travis: Yes. Adullah.
I laughed at it more then I'm supposed to.
I laughed so hard. I appreciate the non-effort.
Taliesin told the story like an old cajun man reminiscing on friends of his from 3 decades prior
Orly
This is how a master bard's story-with-a-lesson ("when you look too close you might not like what you see") transforms into the favorite drinking song at the local pub: "Adullah! Adullah, I do love ya!" 😝
Ashley: "And theres a giant Goliath named uh..."
Me: Don't do it
Ashley: "Named Rodney!"
Me: Oh she did it
Yeah, Pauley and Rodney were obvious traps from the get-go. I was impressed that "Paulet" made it all the way to the end!
She could have named him Pick-a-deli, that's not the worst
I love how Liam attempts to imitate Ashley instead of Scanland
It's official: without his vest, Matt is powerless
Loot his corpse, take his vest!
(For those unaware, this is a reference and not a threat)
A small criticism for the editor: With this format, the narrator doesn't need to have the biggest out of the 7 screens the second time around. The cast's reactions are of much more interest at that point - but their screens are so tiny!
I second that. The regular zoom gallery view is nice for the second time around.
Yes this is a GREAT idea.
Agreed. We get the full view first time through. I know all I wanted to see as everyone got to see Sam showcase the start was how the people at the end reacted to the original story they definitely didn't hear before.
I wish I could like this comment multiple times
same. Trying to see all their tiny reactions
Sam: "Sudara"
Matt: "Sudara, Sahara, Sareyna"
At least he knew it started with an S.
Adalla
ADULA
@@jeanief.6036 Travis comes in with "his love interest whose name was Adalla Dazeem..."
Is everyone just going to ignore how inside her head, Laura went, "Screw being Scanlan, I'm Shakaste now."
THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING TOO
Taliesin: they robbed casinos
next story
marisha: they robbed casinos
Taliesin: WOAH, where did that come from?
in his mind they were just cheating with the glasses. that's why he was surprised marisha went straight to robbery, even though he himself coined it
Oh ha you're right!! I actually thought in my first watch-through that Marisha came up with that one :D I think it all has to do with emphasis??? Also Taliesin could easily be asking himself where that came from hahahahaha
Keep in mind that entire thing was probably a fever dream to Taliesan.
It's funny but when you record something that you only had one time to memorize it's easy to forget a detail one week later. However the whole cast missed it cause Sam was the one that expressed surprise initially.
"ADULLAAAH! ADU-LOOOVE-YAAAAHH!"
Ahh Marisha, never change 🤣
Ashleys version of romance: "There were just 2 lovers loving each other or whatever."
Ashley:
"so he creates these spectacles that you can see things through"
so..... glasses, you just described regular glasses Ashley.
But she described them in a very adorable way :)
If she hadn't added "x-ray" everyone after would've been very confused. "So he is the inventor of glasses? Canon."
I was so glad for her when she circled back and said "x-ray." 😝
Marisha: "I love it when Harley Quinn calls the Joker, Putnum."
I died.
I love that the entire time Matt's story is playing, Sam is the best hype man like, "that's really good!" Honestly, yes.
I just realized that they joked about being on a whole other continent with this story, when they literally changed the continent in Laura's story.
I've only watched 22 seconds of this so far but I just have to say that Marisha's hair looks AMAZING
omg it's ginny di akhds lksdjf
Stahp it. You right but Stahp it. Comment on the story bruh
IKR
her makeup looks are iconic
YES IT DOES
I love that Sam's just delighted and overjoyed by Matt's retelling
Such a proud father!! haha
i love it that they moved Sam to the beginning after singling him out as "the disruptor" and suddenly all of them are just the worst
"Hey Sam you were supposed to do yours as Nott"
How Sam messed up his own story
You know it's going to be a good one when the second person to go changes a name 3 times within the span of two minutes.
People accuse Sam of being an agent of chaos in the Narrative Telephone but Liam's commitment to not just playing the character but playing the previous castmember playing the character is exceptional. This story completely fell apart after Ashley version and then the Liam-as-Ashley version.
When Matt goes full throttle he can tell the entire story of the Luxon in excruciating detail with the full confidence that the players will lose everything important.
But the internet never forgets!
Everyone: Telling the story as good as they can
Taelsin: Having visions of an alternative reality while trying to communicate it to one of his servants
As per usual
Matt Mercer killed the puppy.
Matt killed the puppy, Travis made it a Desperate Housewives episode x)
Schrodinger : Did he really kill the puppy if it is no longer mentioned in the story? The puppy is both alive and dead because it is no longer mentioned.
Esperologist well Sam killed the song which wasn't alive in the first place so *shrugs*
And stole the ring
i knew this would happen someday
I've never seen a man drop the ball as fast until watching Mercer fumble his way through the story
There was something oddly refreshing about seeing Matt struggle that much with it
It seems like he got too caught up trying to remember the little details of the first part of the story and ended up forgetting the later parts.
It’s kinda a wonder he can remember what he’s written for D&D
I'm pretty sure he did that on purpose, though. He did so well last time and everybody ragged on Sam, and Sam clearly was legit hurt by it, so this time he made sure it would be on him because that's the kind of guy Matt Mercer is.
He's been writing it and living it for years. I'd be struggling to remember who I did or didn't make up.
I love how in the original story Sudala (?) was your basic, non bechdel passing object of affection, and then the more it goes along the more involved she got in the plot.
The phrase "Wow. This is a choice." says so much with so little.
Ironic how Scanlan of all people told a nice tale with a good moral at the end and then it slowly turned into a criminal threesome with a rock song at the end.
travis at 44:25 saying "wow this is a ... choice" when laura starts her retelling is sending me
Sam: Paulay invented glasses that lets you see through solid objects!
Ashley: Paulay creates glasses that you can see stuff through!
Paulay invented glasses.
Paulay robbed casinos, man!!
the non-cr spouses of everyone must be entertained when they overhear these recollections
The fact that the Goliaths location was changed every time had me in stitches
During the reactions when Laura came up with the threesome part you could see from the reactions who came before Laura and who came after. One half was like "wait, what!?" and the other half just nodded like "yes. this is how I remember it"
It's a testament to these guys' friendship that instead of dwelling on how much the others screwed up the story, they compliment them on how many things they got right. :)
While also making stories up for the sole purpose of getting everyone else to get things wrong.
Taliesin: "Im tired, de hydrated and hungry on purpose"

There goes Sam, the Master Debater
This was obviously Sam going, "So, last time was my fault huh... Well, let's see if you can do better?"
Talesin with Cadusces voice: "Maybe I should be with Rodney?" I bet that lead to a new ship.
Ashley's start: "I'm Scanlan Shorthalt and this is Jackass!"
Be still my beating heart ...!
Towards the end it was like a drunk guy who'd heard Scanlan's story from several tables over, and is trying to remember it the next day...
"He invents these spectacles that you can see stuff through!"

ADULLA! I LOVE YOU!
I want an epic level story from Matt after everyone else has gone. Actually, I want a season 2 of this. Keep it in rotation, Marisha!
Yeah, im loving having short stories and random tales in the world. I love that these stories are something that the party could hear in a tavern in any of their many itterations
I feel like the addition of a threesome makes it more of a Scanlan story.
Very true, also seeing through peoples' clothes was a great addition, I'm sad that didn't make it to the final edition...
I respect Laura for that. She was given what seemed to be a truncated story, but instead of leaving it obviously broken, she added the most Scanlan ending she could think of!
So what you're saying is they were "cubed"
You could do some fun, unofficial trophies at the end, like "Best added detail", "Most faithful retelling of the person going before you", etc. Could be fun !

18:24 Marisha, despite struggling through most of the rest of the story, manages to make the song back into a song
This is actually an interesting way to visualize how oral stories can become drastically different over time
And that's immediately after hearing it, imagine if they had to wait a day and try retelling it.
There's a reason why so many old tales rhymed. Only those survived intact.
Narrative telephone and actual oral traditions are not really the same. In narrative telephone there are rules in place that purposely encourage the story to change. If accuracy was the goal (it's really not in the game) they would be able to listen multiple times and even confer with each other about details.
If they were super accurate it would be boring.
Why does the term, "Wonderful threesome," sound so wholesome and adorable when Laura says it?
Because harp sounds
