I listened to the sentence about "carting the corpse of a cleric of Corellon" three times without taking in any of it before giving up and letting it play on.
I really liked Taliesin’s story. It basically a story of a character who can only repeat the words of others. It’s a meta-version of telephone in the game of narrative telephone.
Someone needs to start animating these. Just because I would love to see the animations becoming more and more fucked up with every take and adding features like a cowboy hat when the accent goes southern etc. This would be comedic gold if someone had the talent.
Someone made a really good one of Liam's version of his story, but I love the idea of the animation having a groundhog day but progressively more confusing vibe ua-cam.com/video/jfsp6A7-0QM/v-deo.html
Or it could be like that meme with the pictures that get progressively lower quality as the dialogue degrades(or refines, it’s been a while since I’ve seen the meme) So the animation starts out as very fluid and beautiful and gets worse and worse until the 7th one is just story boards drawn by a toddler.
and just like that Taliesin gained another 1,000 years of life off the suffering of the cast and all the critters who are having PTSD whenever they hear a "C" word again. I swear he looked younger by the end of the video
I just love it when we get to Matt's turn, it always ends up with him trying to tell a story while being ACCURATE to his lore. Like you can see him trying to process the craziness he has to retell while constantly fact checking himself.
Taliesin: So my siblings went to bring the corpse of a Cleric of Corellon to its final resting place- Marisha: SO MY SIBLINGS CARRIED A DEAD GOD AROUND ON THEIR CART-

Terahnee Caduceus’s siblings head into the woods while escorting a cadaver and have a spooky encounter with what seems to be an evil spirit, but is actually the ghost of an innocent Kenku.
Narrative telephone in a nutshell: BEGINNING: *whimsical, flowery tale told in-character* THE VERY NEXT ROUND: "Hi, [character] here with a spooky tale for you"
Taliesin: They carted the corpse of a cleric of the god Arkheart. Laura: They carted a cleric named Arkheart. Matt (knowing Arkheart is a god) They're carting around the body of a god somehow.
There seems to be a pattern to Ashley's accents. We need more data to figure it out, but here's what we have so far: - when she's trying to do Jester, she ends up a new yorker - When she's trying to do german, she ends up doing russian/slavic (or alternatively Christopher Walken) - When she's trying to do Caduceus, she ends up southern.
When she tried to do Caleb’s/German, it sounded like Ashley trying to do an impression of Jester, who was trying to do an impression of Caleb. Ashley is too precious for this world, we must protect her at all costs.
@ajs1031 And In four weeks we get MATT doing one final one to tie up the cycle, and he vowed to be allowed to give as good he'd gotten with everyone else going hard-core.
Taliesin - an awesome, alliterative story Laura - panics Liam - panics more Sam - commits to making up details Travis - commits to self-confusion Marisha - time to theorize! SPOOoooOOOKY Ashley - panics, but in Texan Matt - ...the fjuck is this mess? Possibly my favorite cast arrangement yet for NT. Never stop. "KANKOO!"
Ashley had me rolling, it's like a Texan took too many drugs and tried to tell a story that they heard at a bar last week from a guy who also had too many drugs
First Round: An amazing amount of alliteration Last Round: "It's about higher consciousness. It's all about the metaphysical higher understanding of consciousness."
I literally didn't realise until the last repeat of Taliesin's story at the end that the kenku was just mimicking what was last said and the Clay's kept jumping to conclusions. That seems super obvious in hindsight when my brain's not shutting down trying to parse all the c-words (but also fiendish to the next person who might not remember all the details setting up this twist)
I also only realized on the last repeat. It was ideal for the story - a part of what Calliope and Colton/Colin shout out into the woods is repeated to them, confirming their bias about what's in the woods. But there was no way to catch that on the first listen, really.
Taliesin’s story: Caduceus Clay here, I’m going to tell you a story about my siblings and a particularly spooky encounter they experienced. Clarabelle, Colin and Caliope Clay where carting the cadaver of a cleric of Corellon, named Kristoff Kasmar, through the Savalirwood, towards its resting place within the Blooming Grove Cemetery. As the Clays made there way beneath the canopy of crooked conifers they couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being watched. Caliope halted the cart and confidently called out “Whoever follows us in these woods show yourself, for Melora help you, I will defend this cleric charged to my care” From the trees a whispered voice called out “Help” Caliope who’s caution was certainly lacking, sprung into action carelessly leaving her kin to guard their cargo. Minutes passed with no sign of Caliope making Colin and Clarabelle nervous. Colin, who had seen his fair share of creepiness in his chosen occupation, immediately thought of the cleric in the cart. For Colin knew Corellon the arch heart was known to these woods and could be calling to their own cleric’s cold cadaver. Colin bellowed “Arch Heart give me a sign so that I may be of service to you” A ghostly voice then called back “Be of service”. Colin dashed towards the woods leaving Clarabelle alone with the corpse in her care. Clarabelle carefully considered the curious call. Being the cleverest of all the Clays she contrived a game to confirm her theory. “Strange voice” she said “are you near or far.” “Near” called the whisper. “Are you before me or behind me” “Before” Clarabelle walked cautiously into the woods, “Am I cold or warm.” After a brief stroll into the tree line she heard “Warm.” Beneath her feet where the ancient bones of a kenku. Clarabelle called out to Colin and Calliope with the ghostly echo adding to her caterwaul. Calliope asked “How did you find them” Clarabelle explained “Calliope, you only listen for danger. Colin, you listen for a sign. I simply heard someone who was lost.” The three Clays considered the Kenku corpse causing it to bloom, which in turn released its spirit. And that spirit still wanders the Forrest, playfully copying the cries of nervous travellers who stray to deep into the Savalirwood. Hopefully this makes it easier for people to follow :)
This should be pinned. It's so cool to see his story. I hope at the end they do a compilation of just the original stories so we can have them for bedtime listening.
I want the next cycle to be narrative telephone as their charecters. Ex: Nott retelling a story by Yasha and then passing it on to Fjord and so on. I think it’d be really fun.
Taliesin: The Clay siblings are waylaid doing their sacred duty performing the last rights for a cleric. Matt: They're taking Eilistraee's Dad on a cart ride and prying open their third eyes with a crowbar.
I like that since the first ep this has become less 'telling an exandrian themed story' and more 'how can I cause pain & blame to rest of the cast' (but like *real* quick 🤣)
Alliteration, rhyming, melodies and all that stuff actually makes stuff easier to remember. That's why I can't always remember the letters before or after some other letter in the alphabetic order, but if I start in specific places I can keep going until I get what I need. Works with song lyrics, nursery rhymes etc. Didn't work here because there was just too much fucking bullshit for anyone's brain to handle :D
@@fardareismai4495 Yeah, there's repititon, and there's also social pressure where everyone knows the story, and can correct things when they're wrong. Some things might get muddled, but over all oral tradition, in cultures that are raised on it, is really consistent.

It’s funny because the use of rhyming and alliteration is stories usually makes it easier to remember which makes the difficulty of this so much better
WickedSpectator1 Well, it usually makes it easier when you have more time to process the story. Reciting a 2 minute long story with complex alliteration after hearing it a single time is nearly impossible.
This was sinister. The strategy to style the storytelling in such a way as to distract from the simple substance of the story was sublimely sinful. I salute this! Also, every time someone said “I’m Caduceus Clay”, all I could think was “Aren’t we all?”.

I lost track almost immediately, alliteration is so hard to remember
I feel like Liam just filmed himself having a mental breakdown.
As soon as Taliesin started speaking all I could think was, "Wow, he really did it to them."
Taliesin's Caduceus: elegant and complicated retelling of a story of his siblings
Matt's Caduceus: absolutely wasted bar retelling
Otherwise known as "Before Dead People Tea vs. After Dead People Tea"
But, it's the same story, int it? Lol.
And this is why Cad doesn't drink
Wasted Caduceus is surprisingly sassy.
Good for him
I really liked Taliesin’s story. It basically a story of a character who can only repeat the words of others. It’s a meta-version of telephone in the game of narrative telephone.
Yeah the more I think about this, the more it's blowing my mind!
So you're saying Liam IS right when he said the Kenku spirit is playing Narrative Telephone??????
He even said the moral of the story is to listen, in general and to the story. :)
Holy shit ive already seen all of these over and over again but you just blew my mind. How did I not realise!!

Someone needs to start animating these. Just because I would love to see the animations becoming more and more fucked up with every take and adding features like a cowboy hat when the accent goes southern etc. This would be comedic gold if someone had the talent.
I know Ginny Di is doing a cosplay version
Someone did an animatic for Liam's Widogast's Web of Words!
@@Ontinara Well, she did Jester's. As far as I know, she doesn't have cosplays of the others.
Someone made a really good one of Liam's version of his story, but I love the idea of the animation having a groundhog day but progressively more confusing vibe
ua-cam.com/video/jfsp6A7-0QM/v-deo.html
Or it could be like that meme with the pictures that get progressively lower quality as the dialogue degrades(or refines, it’s been a while since I’ve seen the meme)
So the animation starts out as very fluid and beautiful and gets worse and worse until the 7th one is just story boards drawn by a toddler.
and just like that Taliesin gained another 1,000 years of life off the suffering of the cast and all the critters who are having PTSD whenever they hear a "C" word again. I swear he looked younger by the end of the video
Mass torture is so much EASIER now that we have the internet!
I just love it when we get to Matt's turn, it always ends up with him trying to tell a story while being ACCURATE to his lore. Like you can see him trying to process the craziness he has to retell while constantly fact checking himself.
The struggles of a DM 😂
He had that reaction during Laura's to
And his look, when his players fuck up his lore. Just endless disapointmend.
He even flipped Calliope and Colin back to the right order. Goes to show how invested he is in every single character.
Gaslighting matt about his own world
Taliesin: So my siblings went to bring the corpse of a Cleric of Corellon to its final resting place-
Marisha: SO MY SIBLINGS CARRIED A DEAD GOD AROUND ON THEIR CART-
I am 2 minutes in...
Reaction at all the "I hate Talison.." intros: Wow that seems a bit harsh...
Reaction at 2 minutes in: I understand now.
HOLY SHIT!! I literally just posted that!!
I just finished ONLY Taliesin's part and my brain shut down 5 seconds into his story as I realized what he was going to do.... I seriously have no idea what the story was even basically.
Terahnee ayyyyupp. Granted I was kinda buzzed and sitting on my porch smoking a cig wondering how long my penned-in 2 year old would be okay inside by herself, so I was abit distracted.
But that’s all it took. Abit distracted, and I was totally lost.
Terahnee Caduceus’s siblings head into the woods while escorting a cadaver and have a spooky encounter with what seems to be an evil spirit, but is actually the ghost of an innocent Kenku.
I love how an offhanded comment Liam made about 'a semblance of reality' turned into the entire moral of the story.
Narrative telephone in a nutshell:
BEGINNING: *whimsical, flowery tale told in-character*
THE VERY NEXT ROUND: "Hi, [character] here with a spooky tale for you"
No matter the original genre, by the third retelling its guaranteed to be *sPoOkY*

Taliesin: the corpse of a cleric on a cart
Matthew: they were carriing a diety of some kind, so it must have been a big cart
Taliesin: They carted the corpse of a cleric of the god Arkheart.
Laura: They carted a cleric named Arkheart.
Matt (knowing Arkheart is a god) They're carting around the body of a god somehow.

Ashley Johnson : does a Fjord voice

There seems to be a pattern to Ashley's accents. We need more data to figure it out, but here's what we have so far:
- when she's trying to do Jester, she ends up a new yorker
- When she's trying to do german, she ends up doing russian/slavic (or alternatively Christopher Walken)
- When she's trying to do Caduceus, she ends up southern.
she is too precious for this world lol
Now I really want to hear Caduceus say "Bless you soul!"
When she tried to do Caleb’s/German, it sounded like Ashley trying to do an impression of Jester, who was trying to do an impression of Caleb. Ashley is too precious for this world, we must protect her at all costs.
@@mazie1874 Yes! We must protect our high priestest barbarian from the hoes mad butt hurt Last of Us fans!
She rotates each accent 1 radian anticlockwise around the earth
"This kenku is just DEAD, that's why it's a CORPSE!"
This checks out.
I need Ashley to play a character with that exact personality
This was as hardcore as it gets in Narrative Telephone
Just wait till one of them makes it rhyme
It only gets worse from here
I found this one the easiest, by far, of any story they've started with yet. Maybe just different neurology, affected by consonance in different ways?
Yuuuuup
@ajs1031 And In four weeks we get MATT doing one final one to tie up the cycle, and he vowed to be allowed to give as good he'd gotten with everyone else going hard-core.
Didn’t know eldritch beings liked alliteration so much
This man is a god lol i burst out laughing after the first wave of alliteration. . . .and he just KEPT IT GOING
I lost it already 🤣🤣
Oh Taliesin Jaffe....you magnificent bastard!! Well played! Well played!
It's actually consonance, not alliteration.
Taliesin Telephone was supposedly set to be this exaggerating episode's name, but Merry Marisha did a goofing goof
Taliesin - an awesome, alliterative story
Laura - panics
Liam - panics more
Sam - commits to making up details
Travis - commits to self-confusion
Marisha - time to theorize! SPOOoooOOOKY
Ashley - panics, but in Texan
Matt - ...the fjuck is this mess?
Possibly my favorite cast arrangement yet for NT. Never stop. "KANKOO!"
You just transcribed the entire episode. Respect.
I kinda feel bad for Laura, Taliesin straight up sentenced the second person to certain death. :D
She bore her sentence with the dignity of a true queen
Heh. “Sentenced.” Heh. I get it.
He sentenced everyone to death XD lol
I mean, Caduceus as a character is even more of a rambling mess than Jester XD
He sentenced the second storyteller to certain cessation of cognitive creation.
Ashley had me rolling, it's like a Texan took too many drugs and tried to tell a story that they heard at a bar last week from a guy who also had too many drugs
Love Ashley 💙
She makes these amazing.
"Caduceus's Cautionary Chronicle" sounds like a 5th level Divination spell.
That would be "Widogast's Cautionary Chronicle"

Ashley: So Caduceus is now southern
Matt: It's high noon.
YES hahha
Me 1 minute into Travis : damn, he is getting so good at this narative thing
Also Travis : "THE VOICE COMING FROM THE CLERIC"

No one:
Taliesin: *sometimes I wake up having dreamt of a terrible thing*
So Taliesin just chanted some eldritch spell and everyone is supposed to repeat it?
I literally didn't realise until the last repeat of Taliesin's story at the end that the kenku was just mimicking what was last said and the Clay's kept jumping to conclusions. That seems super obvious in hindsight when my brain's not shutting down trying to parse all the c-words (but also fiendish to the next person who might not remember all the details setting up this twist)
Consider commentators clueless of Kenku copycat communication curse
I also only realized on the last repeat. It was ideal for the story - a part of what Calliope and Colton/Colin shout out into the woods is repeated to them, confirming their bias about what's in the woods. But there was no way to catch that on the first listen, really.
@@RPG_Angie I mean when it was revealed it was a kenku, I understood the point of the story
I didn't realize it until I read this comment and relistened to the story
So THAT was what the story was about.
Taliesin’s story:
Caduceus Clay here, I’m going to tell you a story about my siblings and a particularly spooky encounter they experienced.
Caliope halted the cart and confidently called out “Whoever follows us in these woods show yourself, for Melora help you, I will defend this cleric charged to my care”
From the trees a whispered voice called out “Help” Caliope who’s caution was certainly lacking, sprung into action carelessly leaving her kin to guard their cargo.
Colin bellowed “Arch Heart give me a sign so that I may be of service to you”
A ghostly voice then called back “Be of service”. Colin dashed towards the woods leaving Clarabelle alone with the corpse in her care. Clarabelle carefully considered the curious call. Being the cleverest of all the Clays she contrived a game to confirm her theory. “Strange voice” she said “are you near or far.”
“Near” called the whisper.
“Are you before me or behind me”
“Before”
Clarabelle walked cautiously into the woods, “Am I cold or warm.”
After a brief stroll into the tree line she heard “Warm.”
Beneath her feet where the ancient bones of a kenku. Clarabelle called out to Colin and Calliope with the ghostly echo adding to her caterwaul. Calliope asked “How did you find them”
Clarabelle explained “Calliope, you only listen for danger. Colin, you listen for a sign. I simply heard someone who was lost.”
The three Clays considered the Kenku corpse causing it to bloom, which in turn released its spirit. And that spirit still wanders the Forrest, playfully copying the cries of nervous travellers who stray to deep into the Savalirwood.
Hopefully this makes it easier for people to follow :)
You, my friend, are a hero!
This should be pinned. It's so cool to see his story. I hope at the end they do a compilation of just the original stories so we can have them for bedtime listening.
You missed the part where the Archheartcart symbolized a higher plane of existance
Terahnee tbh I needed to type it out myself just so I could understand what the story was h
Angel awh thank you I'm thinking of going back and typing out all of them when I have the time and maybe keep doing it for each one they release
I choose to believe that Caddie's entire backstory and family was made in preparation for this dumpster fire
This was "V for Vendetta"-monologue level of alliteration
The most accurate comparison I've seen
All I’ve learned from this is that
A) Sam’s family is flipping adorable
And B) Never get on Taliesin Jaffe’s bad side
I want the next cycle to be narrative telephone as their charecters. Ex: Nott retelling a story by Yasha and then passing it on to Fjord and so on. I think it’d be really fun.

Taliesin: The Clay siblings are waylaid doing their sacred duty performing the last rights for a cleric.
Matt: They're taking Eilistraee's Dad on a cart ride and prying open their third eyes with a crowbar.
Tals search history while writing this story: “clever C names” “Long C words” “does a K count as a C?” “Are C words hard to remember?”
Any one which makes the sound a k does

"KAIN KOO!"
I love when a story becomes factually impossible by the time it gets to Matt because he's just screaming internally about inaccuracies.
taliesin you broke a perfect group of nerdy voice actors look at them, they got anxiety
Ashley actually fixed the part we’re they go into the woods one by one. That’s what I call character growth.
near the end of Liam's turn, he sounded like he was near tears.
Taliesin's revenge was sweet. Liam should know better than to thwart an elder God
We finally know Liam's weakness
yeah, I was like "Damn, you ok, Liam?"
He's made fun of the other cast members for their flop sweat but I gotta say this was the most spectacular nosedive of them all so far
Best Tal'dorei council reveal idea: Matt's revenge story is a conversation between all of them, in their voices.

Funny part is, alliteration is one of the tricks that historians used to remember tales when history was passed down by oral tradition
guess we know how well that worked out
@@lostdmg7511 if you can repeat it, and learn it by heart it might actually help.
It helped them remember the Archeart in the cart! Not that that was even part of the story, though...
Laura, going 2nd: _struggling to barely hold it together_
Liam, going 3rd: _absolutely breaking down and falling apart_

Taliesin called upon the millennia of rhyming knowledge and storytelling prowess to do one thing: Screw everyone over!! XD
And all things are as they should be.
That wasn't rhyming, half of that was amazing alliteration!
My husband made his a two-minute limerick poem. It also was harder to remember. We fell apart harder and faster than the CR cast did!
Just taking a page from Laura Bailey, is it weird that all I want is Uncle Grog telling Percy and Vex's kids a bedtime story?

This was sinister. The strategy to style the storytelling in such a way as to distract from the simple substance of the story was sublimely sinful. I salute this!
