The fear in passerby seem to be that they feel they would be singled out and targeted later on. Creating a community of vigilance would do some real good when the police have their hands tied.

He trains in MMA so they were out of luck on the day, but my friend is now being prosecuted for an attack on a minor, the thieving scum is only 14. He is accused of attacking the minor for no reason and he has 8 witnesses from somewhere. None of the public saw anything even after originally giving their names and address to police. It’s a shit world we live in man, take care.

Tomorrow I could be in a situation where a criminal has a knife and I am unarmed and not allowed to protect myself, or we could both have a gun. The second option sounds better to me. If he is pointing a gun at me and no one else is around to help, I could simply not draw my gun, so I don't get shot. So I would be in the same situation as we are in today anyway. I was a DR bike and car in London 30 years ago, and compared with now the roads were great - no speed cameras, humps or congestion charge for drivers. Yes it makes it easier for criminals to get them, but they already carry deadly weapons. Tomorrow I could be in a situation where a criminal has a knife and I am unarmed and not allowed to protect myself, or we could both have a gun. The second option sounds better to me. If he is pointing a gun at me and no one else is around to help, I could simply not draw my gun, so I don't get shot. So I would be in the same situation as we are in today anyway. At least if citizens can arm themselves, there is a chance we could help ourselves or each other.
That wouldn't help anything, it would only cause shootings to go through the roof, gang rivalries would become murders instead of beat ups, the united states are not a model to aspire to, they're a shame to other first world countries, they have way higher crime rates and homicides than anywhere in europe, highest percentage of people below the poverty threshold and more.
Guns are NEVER a solution to crime and that's a fact, the states are proof of it, no matter what you believe, facts say otherwise. If you want to defend yourself from someone with a knife get some self defence weapon like pepper spray, which is legal everywhere in europe and much less likely to land you in prison for years for accidentally killing someone.
