At SafetyQuip, we've noticed an increase in
demand for respirators for people with beards.
Now, my mate here doesn't currently have a beard,
but who knows, maybe she would like
to grow facial hair in the future.
Who am I to judge?
What she's wearing is potentially
a suitable solution for somebody with a beard.
Now, traditional respirators, so all of the
ones over here, these are half face respirators
and full face respirators.
They're what we call negative pressure respirators.
They're reliant on the person breathing in air
through a filter, and they're reliant on an effective
facial seal around the edge of the respirator.
That isn't suitable if you've got any length
of facial hair. You simply don't pass a fit-test
with the traditional negative pressure respirators.
This one is what we class as a
positive pressure respirator.
It's a powered air purifying respirator,
or PAPR for short.
This one is the 3M™ brand. It's the Versaflo™.
The product consists of a motor or a blower
down here that filters air.
There's a filter at the bottom.
The filtered air comes into the unit, it draws
up through this hose and it's forced into a
face piece or a headpiece at the top.
There's a variety of different head pieces.
Some of them are a bit lower. They contain a hood
or a shroud that can be particularly good for
somebody with a large beard, a bushy beard.
If you're a garden gnome, maybe that's a solution.
So, the point is, there's positive air pressure
that's fed into the headpiece
and it's higher pressure than outside the mask.
So any contaminants aren't sort of getting
in around the edge of the facepiece,
that positive pressure forces contaminants out.

Im about to lose my job as i can not shave due to my religion. Is this suitable for longer beards? Im told fit testing is not required
Howdy. Yes, many beards can be contained in a PAPR facepiece. So it can be a solution. Good news: Loose-fitting facepieces on PAPR's are not required to be fit tested in our region (Australia).

what happens when the battery dies? do you stop breathing ?

Im told these papr respirator is 5 times better than a fit tested respirator. I'm sure it is approved
So if you fart you can smell it with this respirator
