Unfortunately, he’s been ravaged with injuries since 2018 when, early in the season, he got hit in the head with a pitch COINCIDENTALLY by the Rockies, and he can’t seem to stay out on the field long enough to be productive.
I remember the headliners of the second half of the 2021 free agent class being Schwarber, Castellanos, and Bryant. My Phillies got the other two players and both produce for us.

I will say that, as a Rockies fan, I do think that long overdue rebuild has finally begun as of trade deadline 2023. We traded all we could and got some decent pitching prospect return and committed to a almost entirely rookie/sophomore lineup. Guys are getting reps at the plate that never would before and it looks like it's moving in the right direction. Bryant is our big dead weight. His production and health are so shot I have no idea how we get rid of him. McMahon is under control until 2027 and that may possibly be in our window so would it be worth sacrificing him just to get out of Bryant? In the meantime, I hope the Rockies do trade Elias Diaz for sure, and at least Cal Quantrill as well and take flyers on Brandon Rodgers.

While I'm more a Seattle fan, living in Colorado, I loved Arenado, and hate the owners. I was curious about the Bryant signing, and... yeah, wonder what the point of it all was. The few times I've gone to see the Rockies since bringing him on... I've seen him play absolutely no times at all. I really feel for the guy. He deserves better.
As a Rockies fan, we will never be good. Never. No pitcher will come here cause of altitude. No one else will come to a poverty franchise with an egotistical owner who believes his team “deserves” higher. The Colorado Rockies will be the poverty sports team until I die and I’m only 21.
It's truly depressing, players all over the league were polled and the Rockies are in the same tier as As and White Sox as teams that players dont wish to go. For pitching I understand but it's kinda crazy that not even hitters want to sign to stat pad. The Rockies don't take advantage of Coors.
One of Baseballs biggest problems, nay Professional Sports in General, is that they no longer represent the Cities in which they play . The DETROIT LIONS play in PONTIAC ! THE NEW YORK AND JETS play in NEW JERSEY ! THE ANGELS play somewhere else in CALIFORNIA every decade ! The NHL and NBA are soon to follow along those very lines in the near future. Team Loyalty is a marketing concept and a one way street . Analytics has overtaken personalities and abilities for determining players worth . And the WORTH !!?? Lets just say that Professional Sports has surpassed the PENTAGON when it comes to wasteful spending and lack of oversight.
The Mets are the kings of the bad deal. They bought back Canò from the Mariners. And what happened next was not just predictable, but kinda expected. He wasn’t getting better, why would anyone think he was clean?
You can definitely put a lot of this blame on Kris Bryant. Sure the deal didn't make sense, but Bryant has been nothing short of abysmal for them. Dude hasn't even played in a full season's worth of games for them since 2022 and even when he is playing, he's not producing anything offensively

Then, that article where KB openly admitted to not looking at the Rockies' Minor League prospects and taking the money killed any sympathy I had. The dude chose a payday over playing meaningful games. To each their own.
You have to remember Scott Boras is his agent. He refused a $225 million deal with the cubs beforehand. Bryant was likely listening to what Boras wanted which was just more money since he wanted to make as much money off of Bryant as he could. Boras doesn’t care about fit, he cares about cash and Bryant didn’t try to think about what he might’ve wanted to do
@@MustacheDLuffythen that just means that between listening to Boras and him not looking at the Rockies' prospect list, KB doesn't care about due diligence, either.

But then the Monforts turn around and give a shit-ton to a guy who was fizzling in Frisco? I'd call the Rox' leadership/ownership incompetent bozos, but that's insulting...to incompetent bozos. Until and unless the ownership changes, the Rox will stay in the bottom tier
The most frustrating thing about this deal is they signed a third baseman to play left field, then right field, then first base/DH. It reminds me of when they signed a shortstop turned center fielder to play first base (Ian Desmond). They haven't been able to properly construct a roster. The one thing I will say is that they technically did start rebuilding the year after the Bryant deal (which makes the deal make even less sense).Bill Schmidt is at least better at drafting than Bridich was, so the farm is improving, and they have pieces like Tovar, Jones, and Doyle (I'm a sad Rockies fan, at least let me have that)

@@ashwinranji8790 Nolan hasn't really done anything to propel the Cardinals to a championship, and he's under delivering so far in 2024. Other than the 50 million cash giveaway, I'm not one of the Rockies fans that still to this day laments losing him. We have a decent 3rd baseman in Ryan McMahon. I'm more pissed about the Kris Bryant acquisition and what a disaster that's been.
He was elite in 2022, but yeah overall the numbers have dipped since leaving Coors. That happens though to like everybody so…uhh idk.
But 💯 I agree the KB signing was way worse.
I remember a lot of Mariners fans, myself included, wanted Bryant that offseason. Most of us were ok not getting him when we saw the contract, and that feeling has only been validated since
Yo tree if you ever decide to do a hour plus video just know you will be the GOAT in my eyes. Your content is always fire even about sports I don’t keep up with! Drop sum a hour plus long and I’ll have entertainment for days!
His legacy of failure for the Leafs is around 45 minutes.
@@moonjelly5 Ik I’ve seen it but I’m looking for tree to just get lost in a topic ya know, let him deep dive sum crazy off the wall and just give us the soothing sounds of his commentary for a hour plus
Surprised you didn't drop this video tomorrow considering tomorrow is Bobby Bonilla Day
As a Cubs fan, I will always appreciate and love Kris Bryant for his role in the 2016 run plus his incredible start to his career (all-star in 2015 and 2016, 2015 NL Rookie of the Year, 2016 NL MVP).
6:40 Command and Conquer music.
Target / Mechanical Man (Remastered)
I blame the Rockies for me in the entirety of Colorado not getting into baseball. If any team were to become like the Arizona coyotes itd be us after the A's
I live Bryant. The first time I watched baseball was 2015. It was around that time growing up when you started getting invested into teams. Growing up in Chicago suburbs it was the Cubs. I miss Bryant he’s my favorite ever play. I hate to see him not succed
Underrated bit at the end about the Colorado school system. If you know, you know
As a Rockies fan.........
Im just happy someone remembered they exist enough to talk about them.
I remember there was an article in the athletic immediately after he signed. It said "the Rockies are paying Kris Bryant to be a better last place team" damn how spot on that's been lol
Not surprised from the only professional team without a title
I’m a Cubs fan and I still wear my Bryant jersey. Having said that, I was shocked he just didn’t stay with SF and they really wanted to keep him. I doubt the $ wouldn’t have been an issue either.
Scott Boras clients and sharply declining after signing huge contracts. Name a more iconic duo
Almost smells like a grift, doesn’t it??
Tree, could you do a video of the Brewers?? I’m a huge fan of your channel and wished you could cover the Brew Crew, even though you are a pirates fan.
Diehard Cubs fan here... that OG PC command & Conquer soundtrack you had playing in the background jus unlocked a childhood memory lol
As a Giants fan I almost passed out when I found out the Rockies signed KB lol
I think they should just stick him at DH whenever possible. I never want to see him in the outfield ever again
Kris Bryant, javy beaz, Anthony rizzo, william contreras, Addison Russel, Kyle schwarber, Lester, Lackey, Jason heyward, David Ross, ben zobrist, Jorge Solar, Dexter Fowler... What a crazy group of ppl to all be on the same team
Kris Bryant’s career path has made me sad as a cubs fan
He's Mr. Glass
When he signed that contract I thought it was a parody account who reported it
I mean, I first saw it from the Rockies Twitter which is basically just a parody baseball franchise anyway
As a Mariners fan, I can sypathize with Rockies fans. cries in Robinson Cano
@X525Crossfire
Did you know he is playing in Mexico city right now (Cano)
Dude is hitting .456
Cano at least was somewhat productive in Seattle.
Bryant is nowhere close to that
Not since 2007 - Do we have a baseball team.... We do have an amazing beer garden that people just happen to play baseball on. 😂
The fact that Bryant has fallen off a cliff is sad. He was one of my favorite Cubs players of the last decade
This is Completely unrelated to the video but at 5:22 I instantly recognized exactly where this interview was taking place. As a matter of fact it was a place I went to frequently as a kid. That being isotopes park in ABQ NM, the Rockies AAA affiliate.
I have one question that always bothers me. What is the polka music at 1:31 that pops up when talking about the Rockies? Can someone help?
It's clown music. The Rockies are a carnival attraction
Do you mean the music at 4:40? Merry Go Round music from Super Mario 64
@@RocktoberPR I referring to 1:31. Still can’t figure it out.
@@jonathanpeck6112 ditto
As a Ms fan, Tree, please, cover how terrible this office is.
54%
Sitting on an elite pitching staff only to redo the King Felix story arc
The utter refusal to spend money to aquire a bat to bolster the club because 'damn it we can build from within'
Torch. Them. Tree.
If the bottom falls out, I bet he'll make a video on it
And I have to give you a very respectful and admiring chef kiss motion to the usage of the big top music from super Mario 64..
Basically, they signed Kris as a “replacement” for Arenado at least in terms of being a star. Just like most things Rockies it fails spectacularly
Plain and simple. I see a new Utree video I drop everything.
You're pathetic
I moved to Colorado a couple of years ago and try and go to a few Rockies games a year. I’ve been to maybe 6-7 games so far. I’ve seen Kris Bryant play exactly once.
Trailblazers and Rockies legacy of failures would be fun. I know the Blazers did win a ring in 77 but it would still be a fun watch.
Wooo lets go Rockies content!!!! 😃😃😃
Rockiessssss 🙂🙂🙂
Rockies.....🙁🙁🙁
While I'm more a Seattle fan, living in Colorado, I loved Arenado, and hate the owners. I was curious about the Bryant signing, and... yeah, wonder what the point of it all was. The few times I've gone to see the Rockies since bringing him on... I've seen him play absolutely no times at all.
I really feel for the guy. He deserves better.
Interest in sports is low but your editing, music choices, and overall research makes me watch every single video you put out.
I still can't believe the Rockies didn't get Matt Liberatore on that deal
Árbol you coulda done the Andrew Benintendi Red Sox contract too
As a cubs fan, I will always love that core. And All of the 2016 players. But god am I happy that we traded all those guys when we did
3:40 - My eyes lit up almost immediately as soon as I heard that WWF SmackDown music. ❤
Don’t let this distract you from the Dodgers-Giants game yesterday making no sense whatsoever.
Go Giants 🤎🖤
As a Rockies fan, we will never be good. Never. No pitcher will come here cause of altitude. No one else will come to a poverty franchise with an egotistical owner who believes his team “deserves” higher. The Colorado Rockies will be the poverty sports team until I die and I’m only 21.
It's truly depressing, players all over the league were polled and the Rockies are in the same tier as As and White Sox as teams that players dont wish to go. For pitching I understand but it's kinda crazy that not even hitters want to sign to stat pad. The Rockies don't take advantage of Coors.
Denver here. Unsubbed for reminding me the Rockies exist.
lol
...I'm going to need a STRONG drink for this one, aren't I?
Very timely with this video with Colorado DFA'ing Montero today.
KB is lucky he's in Colorado, any larger market he' be getting eviscerated by media
I remember being kinda pissed when the Phillies were thinking of signing Bryant instead of Schwarber..So glad they didn’t!.Phills Dodged a bullet!
Back at it again with the Ace Combat 3 OST. Very nice.
Hell yeah brother, most underrated AC game (the japanese version)
I was shocked when I saw this news when it happened and thank you for doing this video
"the biggest bar in denver" lmao. shout out the rockpile tickets to bar seat pipeline
Finally, a Rockies video can't wait for the legacy of failure
He did another video years ago
He had been sucking ass for nearly a decade when they ponied up a king’s ransom for an old, beat up slugger with a known drug problem. And what happened next was not just predictable, but kinda expected. He wasn’t getting better, why would anyone think he was clean?
Ah the 2016 Cubs, core memories I will never forget.
Chris Davis is Bobby Bonilla 2.0. PS you need to do a deep dive into the Midnight Massacre of '77 you mentioned with the Arenado trade.
You can definitely put a lot of this blame on Kris Bryant. Sure the deal didn't make sense, but Bryant has been nothing short of abysmal for them. Dude hasn't even played in a full season's worth of games for them since 2022 and even when he is playing, he's not producing anything offensively
Blame for what? Being mortal? Blame for aging over time? Blame for agreeing to accept free money?
@@kurtwicklund8901 Blame him for not performing up to the huge contract he signed. Doesn't matter the reasons why, it doesn't change the fact that Bryant isn't worth what he's getting paid
It didn't make sense then and it doesn't make sense now
Facts
We can say that about many many trades
@@MazeDaGr8Some bad trades made sense at the time, like the Baez trade to the Tigers. We needed a shortstop, seemed like we were about to turn a corner and the other big option, Correa had his own baggage (Astros, injuries, and financial cost). It has been terrible for us, but I bought into it at the time.
#H2P man!
After living the last few years of having the Pirates be the example of embarrassingly bad baseball, I'm just glad we have teams like this now to be like "well at least we're not the Rockies"
2:04, That’s putting it nicely Tree
I always thought he’d sign there to stat pad for a couple years then get traded before the deal was up (like Arenado) but injuries ruined that
the rockies dfa montero today (6/30/24) if you want kicker to the arenado trade
Is that Mechanical MAn in the background from Command and Conquer!
Giants dodged a bullet by not re-signing Bryant lol
As a Giants fan, I remember the Giants didn't bring back KB because they thought his swing wouldn't age well.
@@uncreative5766 he probably just wanted to have Boras do all the work for him and boras really only cares about money he can make
Ive been a rockie since day one. Was there for all of 2007.
Was there when less than 1000 people were in the stadium.
I CANNOT DO IT ANY LONGER.
Allows Story to depart; that turned out to be the right thing. Arenado has been productive for the Cardinals; not in two Playoff appearances. But then the Monforts turn around and give a shit-ton to a guy who was fizzling in Frisco?
Pretty sure Bryant knew what he was doing: sign for the most in an amenable city and rest on his laurels...literally.
Deep cut with the Command and Conquer music near the end
I'd call the Rox' leadership/ownership incompetent bozos, but that's insulting...to incompetent bozos. Until and unless the ownership changes, the Rox will stay in the bottom tier
Big Boo's Merry-go-round was an excellent music choice.
