      By not shutting him down, the Yankees actively put his life in danger. If he were to take another blow to the head, it could genuinely kill him. I think the Yankees just told him to play through it, which imo is absolutely disgusting.

    The Cubs got to the world series because of pitching not because of young over rated "superstars". The biggest problem afterward is they believed they were superstars and all they had to do was show up. They faded every year in the second half... lack of conditioning. Except Baez who just never was that good.

    Those guys are all Cubs heroes, and will live forever in the hearts of Cubs fans around the world. Having said that, it was absolutely unequivocally the right decision by the front office to move on when they did and cash in on those guys when they still had some trade value. I love them so much, and I will miss watching them forever; I’m so grateful to them for breaking the curse, and bringing some pride and respect back to this franchise. They did the impossible, and no one will ever take their place in this town. They are Cubs legends. Now, new legends are being born on the Northside, and hopefully this group, with some help, will be able to do what those guys did, bringing us another championship.

  • @Thundertinker
    @Thundertinker Рік тому +2

    Hot Take: The decline of Baez and Rizzo may not have happened/ been as bad had they stayed on the Cubs. The only reason Rizzo was bad this year was because of the Yankees playing him for two months after a concussion that should have landed him on the IL in June. I'm not saying the Cubs necessarily would have done better but that whole situation is not on Rizzo, its on the Yankees for being absolute dumbasses and irresponsible with the health of their 1st baseman who was top 5 in the league pre injury. As for Baez, the biggest issue for him is that he's being asked to be a 3 hitter on a bad tigers team. Baez does not hit 3rd well. He is much better as a back of the order bat with talent around him that will give you power and some good defense at Short, 2nd, 3rd or wherever else you can fit him in. He's a skill monkey, and on a good team he's great because he's not the lynchpin. Detroit wants to build around him and he's nowhere near consistent enough to do so, never has been. I'm not saying bryant would be better or worse because injuries happen, but it is weird that the rockies took a third baseman and said, yes! our new Left Fielder. Just Rockies being Rockies ig

    The core members of the 2016 World Champion Cubs simply lost their hunger. Kris Bryant turned 25 in early 2017, and, by that age, he had achieved everything possible in baseball and, maybe, in life: Rookie Of The Year, N.L. Mvp, Pennant, and World Championship. In addition, he was financially set for Life, and got married. He had nothing left to achieve, and nothing left to prove. In addition to that, they won the World Title in the most dramatic fashion possible, and ended the longest drought in the history of American sports. They were feted all winter by the American media (and Rightfully so!), and .... yeah, the hunger disappeared. Even so, they did return to the NLCS in 2017, but .... yeah. Don't worry Cub fans, another dynasty type of team is likely just getting started at 1060 W. Addison St., in Chicago, Illinois. 8-)

    “Weirder then throwing 125 million to a “WASHED UP”!?!?!? Josh Hamilton.” God that’s an awful take by Jolly. He was top 5 MVP vote getter in his contract year and MVP 3 seasons prior. Like I get he blew up in LA and maybe that’s what he means, but it’s worded as if they signed an ALREADY washed up Hamilton. When he was essentially at his peak.

    I think every logical Cubs fan knew what was going to happen, regarding trading off Rizz Bryant and Baez. And I look back and see 3 last gifts and memories they left us with near the end of the line..
    Rizzo giving us a 16 pitch AB that ended in a homerun.
    Bryant had a couple clutch hits and homeruns
    Baez (which is by far my favorite moment) getting the sweetest revenge against the Reds, more specifically Amir Garrett and I gotta say it...1 PITCH!!
    Fuck I hate Garrett 🤣

    As a Cub fan. I can say for sure that Baez was beloved, he was nowhere near as well liked as Rizzo. He was prerty much biggest fan favorite. Baez has an ego problem and still does. Reason why he has issues with discipline. Rizzo is stil beloved in Wrigley. Always will be a Cub.
    Also I would have included Schwarber. He was apart of the core and definitely was productive in getting the ring. Him and Rizzo hurt me the most as a Cubs fan.

    Good vid! I have to point a disturbing fact. When these "super stars" in the making finally get monster contracts with insane $$, they dont perform like they used to. The list is long in the league. You can't blame the players for getting their money. However...they aren't earning their paychecks. It's quite sad. $$ is the root of all evil. And players in MLB are showing why this is. But also the owners of these teams paying insane amounts of $$ to " potential " stars is truly insane. Keep up the geat work.

That month long drop from 1st place to multiple consecutive sweeps to selling off fan favorites made me feel like wtf were we doing?! But in hindsight boy does it look like the right moves all around. Rizzo is really the only one (maybe Kimbrel too) who is on a typical aging trajectory but everyone else, Willson Contreras included now this year has COMPLETELY shit the bed

    The most amazing part about the aftermath of the 2016 Cubs is that pretty much every one of them got worse after the WS win - they had so many young players and it seemed like better years were ahead for most of them. Unfortunately, the only players you could argue had one/two better years following the WS Title would be Baez, Contreras, Schwarber and Soler - and that's only because they had next to no MLB experience prior to 2016, with the majority of Scwharber/Soler's success coming while playing for other teams.
