The fact that he says he's going *fishing* on Christmas Eve whilst his *EIGHT MONTHS PREGNANT WIFE* has to go grocery shopping, walk the dog, clean the house, bake cookies, prep for big family gathering the next morning, etc., tells me everything I need to know about what kind of husband Scott was.

I was expecting/just had my third child and only daughter at the same time Laci was expecting Connor/this case was going on.
My daughter was born in August 02, Laci was due Feb 03. Looking back on the nearly 18 years of my daughters life, it makes me sad to think of how much they all missed out on, especially Laci and Connor, but her parents and siblings too, simply because this self involved sociopath Scott wasn’t ready to settle down to a family/one woman yet, and thought of himself as some kind of ladies man, Romeo type. So many cherished memories and moments, so much joy, and he robbed them of all those with Laci and Connor for the most stupid, short term “reasons” possible. Why couldn’t he just have divorced her, (and even turned his back on his son) indeed. Unbelievable.
Speaking of how parents behave, Peterson’s parents (mostly his mother) tried helping him run/abscond, made excuses for him, and set up a web page after he was convicted (and clearly guilty as all the circumstantial evidence pointed directly at him and no one else) proclaiming his innocence, and making Sharon Rocha, the grieving mother and grandmother, out to be the bad guy! Scott’s parents never acted like they were grieving Laci or their grandson for one minute through all this. They said their names as a matter of duty only as to not look coarse and uncaring. It was all about “poor Scott”. And then we wonder why Scott behaved the way he did?!
This is what children with no consequences, who are just TOO special for words, grow up to be. The same dynamic going on with Chris Watts and his parents (mostly his mother). Ditto that sicko psychopath Todd Kolhepp and his disgusting excuse making mother (watch her interview here on UA-cam if you really want to cringe- she didn’t even try to put it on like Peterson’s and Watts’ mother’s did!).
They all also created monsters! Lessons learned, here, people. Raise your kids, don’t convince/treat them like they’re above or more special than everyone else (smarter, better looking, more deserving, richer, etc) teach them empathy for others, don’t hand them everything in life.. make them earn things, and give them consequences when they deserve them, or you too might just create a murderous (life stealing) sociopath!! Are any of these mothers/parents better off for raising their sons to fully believe they’re a cut above, and smarter than everyone else? Not hardly!

Yes, but during his fishing trip a couple men saw him and they had a bit of small talk. His boat was small, and anyone would be able to see a body inside. He wasn't the only boat out in that bay and many folks were in the area and they would have seen a man tossing a body in broad daylight.

More so in some cases, given how much we consume. This is what makes it morally dubious. Life and suffering are inextricably bound. You cannot create one without the other. We define what is immoral in terms of creating needless suffering. If you go to Google Image and look for a chart called The Asymmetry Argument you'll find a graph created by David Benatar that lays out why this makes sense and cannot be refuted from an ethical perspective. A study by the Death Penalty Information Center (“DPIC”) found more than 550 death penalty reversals and exonerations were the result of extensive prosecutorial misconduct. DPIC reviewed and identified cases since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned existing death penalty laws in 1972. That amounted to over 5.6% of all death sentences imposed in the U.S. in the last 50 years.
Robert Dunham, DPIC’s executive director, said the study reveals that this “‘epidemic’ of misconduct is even more pervasive than we had imagined.”
The study showed a widespread problem in more than 228 counties, 32 states, and in federal capital prosecutions throughout the U.S.
The DPIC study revealed 35% of misconduct involved withholding evidence; 33% involved improper arguments; 16% involved more than one category of misconduct; and 121 of the exonerations involved prosecutor misconduct.

So that joker faced crying crocodile tears for the camera when during the actual search and all the volunteers he cried not a tear. His tears were for his freedom. And he told Amber Fry on the phone, and was recorded: "If they find any evidence, I will loose my freedom". Boom!!! And when they were searching the marina for her body, he was watching from ashore to see if they were in the right spot. So many clues. And the paid actors hired by the million dollar lying for a living lawyer; literally that is what that crooked lawyer charged, lies of people saying the saw Laci walking the dog made no sense, she was 8 months pregnant and complained of very bad body aches[she may have taken out to poop and pee, but not a long hike because she a lot of pain in her pregnancy] And her mom said that her last conversation with her daughter was Laci telling how Scott would NOT feel her tummy to feel baby Conner kick and it bothered her very much. Yeah, because he knew what was going to happen to baby Conner, by his murderous hands. His real judgment is coming very soon by God Almighty for his crime of murder of his wife and child.

Key things you didn't mention that further substantiate Scottie P.'s guilt:
    1. Referred to Laci in the past tense during one of his TV interviews.
    2. The GPS on his car tracked him to the Marina where he watched investigators searching for Laci in the water where she was eventually found.
    3. Evidence that he made four concrete anchors was found in the facility where he stored his boat. One such anchor was recovered in the boat. (Guess he didn't need them all to sink Laci's body in the Marina.)
    4. Jewelry Laci always wore whenever she left the house remained in the home.
    5. On one of the recorded calls with Amber Frey, while Laci was still missing, Scottie P. said that he had "confidence" that "our relationship will grow." Gee, that kind of sounds like he knows his "beloved" wife isn't coming back. Hmmmm
    6. A photo album from Scott and Laci's wedding was found in the trash at his boat storage.
    7. A tarp he took on the boat during his Dec. 24th "fishing trip" was found in the storage covered in gas and fertilizer, destroying any DNA.
P.S. The alleged "witnesses" who claimed to have seen Laci in the park after Scott left to go fishing, all contradicted one another about the what-where-when of what they claimed they saw. Detectives located two to three other women who resembled Laci and lived in the neighborhood, who were also pregnant, and could have been mistaken for Laci. Regardless, if any of these witnesses were in anyway credible, the defense would have put them on the stand during the trial. They did not. Finally, if there are additional witnesses who have come forward LONG after the trial ended, I would find their testimony extraordinarily suspect. There is absolutely no rational explanation for keeping quiet for so long.

In the 00's I worked at a Hollywood Video movie rental in SLO (where Scott Peterson was from). The store stayed open until Midnight every night. One night I was closing by myself and around a half hour before midnight an incredibly drunk man came stumbling into the store. He set a gallon of vodka on the front counter and went to look for a movie. I already didn't like being in there alone at night, so that really put me on edge. He wasn't in the store very long, he found a movie, and brought it up to the counter to pay. I asked for his phone number and ID to verify his account.
As he handed me his ID he said with slurred speech, "I didn't do it."
    I was like, "Uhhh. You didn't do...what?"
    "I didn't kill my wife."
My stomach dropped. I couldn't tell if he was serious or if he was joking. He said it so deadpan, almost like he was complaining. I looked down at his ID and his name was Scott Peterson. I checked out his movie as quickly as possible and scribbled down his name as soon as he left. We didn't have smartphones back then so I looked it up the instant I got home...
    Aaaand...

I feel this is one of those cases where Laci got the last word. Yes, she and her baby boy lost their lives to this monster, but she made sure Scott got put away by washing ashore. She also protected her baby boy in her body for as long as she could until they washed ashore. The baby was in much better shape than she was. She lost her head and limbs, but held onto the baby for months. If it hadn't been for that horrible winter storm we had that year, she would have never surfaced. Both Scott's father and stepfather are avid fishermen, yet he didn't tell either of them about buying a boat. His stepfather, Ron Granski actually told Scott he was thinking about going fishing a week before Lacy went missing, and Scott said nothing about buying a boat. - Also, when he went fishing, he took the wrong tackle, fishing pole and anchor. He said he was "trolling" for sturgeon with lures, but that's not how you catch Sturgeon. You use live bait because they're bottom feeders, and he'd gone Sturgeon fishing before, so he knew that. - His story didn't add up at all.

Like, did he supposedly let the dog go on a leash to wander back home before heading out to the boat? You would think this would be brought up at trial because it doesn’t make sense. If he took the dog with them then one would have to believe the dog walked 90 miles back home in less than an hour. So, he had to have either let the dog out prior to leaving to make his story more plausible or Laci did indeed walk the dog that morning or he pulled up & abducted her as she walked the dog. Either way everyone seems to have dismissed what happened with the dog altogether when it could clear up any lingering questions about the case but there’s really nothing about it which is odd.

There are victims all over, from Laci, to Amber to the family dog. Of everyone effected by this, Amber is the only one who gets their old life back.

So while I am extremely gleeful that Scott is on death row, I also remember that Amber paid a debt thanks to him also. And no, it doesn't begin to compare to what Laci's family paid, but I still think she deserves sympathy instead of our judgment. Remember, this woman helped the prosecution. @Rita Yes you're right, she did write a book or 2, did lots of television interviews, made some money. Imo, I can't be angry about that when I know her entire life was turned upside down. She was scrutinized by the media, and hounded relentlessly. She was threatened, was made the butt of peoples jokes. Her name is still literally synonymous with "mistress" even she had no clue ding dong was married..I'm sure that after 15+ years she still has the emotional scars from all of that, that are as fresh as they were back then. I'm sure she still constantly plays the "what if" game. And I'm positive she still blames herself a little bit for Scots atrocious act. I guess what I mean is, after going through this ordeal she went through, a few books n tv appearances that she made a financial gain by doing don't offend me.

She didn’t know he was married and how she found out was through news stories of his pregnant wife missing. @@zeniashanze1882 "she is loved and missed" is a use of the passive voice. It's a way to change the subject of the sentence to change the emphasis. It is a trick often used in misdirection (liars), so you'll see this a lot in politics and mainstream media. In Wikipedia, I believe this is one of the modes that is part of the editors guidelines. In an encyclopedia, they avoid the subjective and anecdotal, so the passive voice is preferred.
Instead of saying "I love you and I miss you", he switches to the passive voice. This is a defensive mechanism that is often subconscious, especially with the intent to cover a lie. He doesn't love her. "She is loved (by many people)".

People put too much emphasis on the past tense. I suppose it's the easiest thing for a beginner to spot in these types of cases, but it's really not at all a reliable method of detection.
It's more likely faulty grammar, like many, many people have. Most people(Americans) don't know which tense and participles to use in normal speaking. It's really not some subconscious giveaway, like cheezy TV shows would have you believe.
It's also perfectly normal to believe a missing person is not returning, very very soon after they go missing. Example: A man I know's step-daughter was tragically kidnapped and murdered. She was considered missing- until they found her body 6 weeks later. The step-dad talked in past tense the entire time, because he had already convinced himself of her fate. Step-dad had 0 to do with her murder, and they caught the guy who did it who then lead the police to her body.

    • @eschelar
      @eschelar 4 роки тому +5

@@SmithCommaBenjamin I would actually agree with you here. Past tense doesn't mean much because we use past tense for people all the time, even if they are living - sometimes in error and sometimes it just feels natural because of the nature of the interaction.
However, there's a difference here in the use of the passive voice.
The passive voice is often something that people use as an avoidance tactic for emotional attachment.
For example, a man might say "I love you.", which is active voice, with a normal subject, verb, object pattern.
But if he is not comfortable saying that, he might say something like: "That was really great" or "You are really great" or "It was great", or even "I really like that about you".
These avoidance tactics are actually very common in relationships and can often signal a lack of love and sincerity in a relationship.
Some of those phrases above were deliberately chosen because you do actually hear this kind of thing fairly often, especially in our modern "faux-love-bomb" society that revolves around social media. Social media lacks the connectedness of a face to face interaction, so people tend to over-do their expressions on social media. "Love this" or "THIS^^^^^^^!!!!!!!" and many other expressions that you will see all the time on social media are actually exaggerations that are the result of the impersonality of social media as a forum.
In technical writing, we choose the passive voice when we want to remove personality entirely. We change the subject to "it" instead of "you". Another "tension mitigation tool" is the change of the subject of "you" (which implies "you should") to "we", so it feels more like this is something done simply out of common use rather than a person trying to enforce a particular rule. An example of this would be this very paragraph and you can see how the tone of this paragraph would feel a bit different if I changed the subject from "we" to "you" in that it would change from a simple "statement of fact" to "KarenModeEngaged" in its emotional flavoring.
These changes are actually quite deeply ingrained in our language perception and even people who don't really understand the technical concepts behind them respond and use these language techniques without thinking.
Switching to a passive voice is not actually something that comes naturally for the vast majority of people and the biggest mistake you'll often find in technical writing is the use of the active voice inadvertently or the incorrect "person". This is the main reason why you can actually build trust as an authority to some people simply by being consistent in using the passive voice. It's so unusual to hear it in conversational language, especially to hear it used consistently, that our brains take notice and we start feeling like it's a news report or an encyclopedia entry. We subconsciously view the sentences as statements of fact. Breaking that consistency is easy to do and a mark of poor writing skills.
This is why it is even more noteworthy when someone suddenly starts using a lot of passive voice in speech, as opposed to a simple tense switch.
Once you see it, you can actually look for more instances of it and in the example of this video, you can see where the guy is consistently using passive voice for sentences that normally have active voice.
"she is loved and she is missed".
Not "I love you, I miss you".
This slip is much more telling than a simple tense switch.
