- For the record, I knew it was a knockoff. I was just curious as to what was actually in the box. I’m only out $20, so no biggie. Guy started out asking $600 which he said was more than half off 🚩
Same thing happened to me with some cheap watches ⌚. They where outside of a supermarket in a bmw claiming he was from Italy or some other country. He said that all the merchandise was imported and that he had to go back and get rid of all stock. Watches looked premium but they where fake. He was in a hurry and putting pressure on selling.

Im too embarrassed to say how much I spent on a couple "sound speakers" but yes it's an ABSOLUTE scam. These guys will pull up in really nice cars too. This guy even said its a "company car". They'll sell you HOME THEATRE systems, SOUND BARS, etc... PLEASE be aware of these guys! Ill be lucky if I break even on what I purchased :(
I had a guy trying to sell me some speakers in a parking lot. Pulled out my phone and start taking pictures of the license plate of the van they were driving. They took off pretty quickly.
Bro this literally happened to me TODAY.
I was literally stupid enough to fall for this today. I was leaving publix, started filling my car with grocieries and had a car pull up to me asking if I wanted to buy a speaker. I said "Sure, I'll at least check it out". My guys were pretending to be BestBuy workers claiming that the products were being transported to a different company for sale. They were both wearing BestBuy shirts as well. Either way, these guys were very convincing. I mentioned multiple times that "this is too good to be true" and they had so many rebuttals on why it was actually true. I even had both of them show me their driver's licenses for my own insurance. I'm not someone who knows speakers very well so I was not aware of how "real" Sonos products are packaged and whatnot. Lost 300 dollars. It's not even about the money. I drive a goddamn 2002 Buick Century with a 180,000 miles. I am also 19 years old and broke as shit. People who are broke and vulnerable are their targets. I live in a pretty wealthy town with tons of people driving Mercedes, BMWs, Cadillacs, ECT. These dudes drive up to the only car in the parking lot that looks like a "shitbox". Horrible people taking advantage of the vulnerable. As said previously, it's not about the money I lost, it's more about the unethical and unmoral nature of these two. GET A REAL JOB. DONT STEAL PEOPLE'S MONEY.
SAME exact thing happened with me today!!! I am 19. Moved out at 18. Doing everything on my own and figured I could resell and make some money because I can hardly afford rent!! 200$ down the drain… and I WORK A MINIMUM WAGE JOB! I am so bummed because I work really hard for my money and pay for everything all on my own. I asked him so many question but I have a really hard time saying no! Pisses me off. Money I will never get back☹️

If it sounds to good to be true,it usually is. This $200 loss /lesson will probably help you in the future bud. Don’t buy anything on the streets,it never works out well. I learned that lesson from my uncle in the 90’s. He stated he brought a VCR from a guy on the street. It was filled with a brick and garbage and it looked factory sealed. At least you got something. But you should know better.
I used to see this scam all the time on the streets of NYC when I was a kid in the 80s. Boxes of camcorders and vcrs

I often do my shopping in the parking lot rather than inside the store itself.
I find that the fine fellows selling random items from their trunk only have my best interests at heart.

I never sold them under cost unless when I worked for a company I needed it to hit my bonus. But even then I would never sell them for $20. I would rather just keep them for that price
I just bought one of those with a different box and the sub but I only paid 200 and it was wireless not a Sonos at all but good enough to jam for 200$
I remember these guys all of the time in Vegas at the Smiths grocery store or the lot at the Home Depot hocking these off. Most of the time their schtick was that they were working audio install for night clubs or condos and that they had extra speakers that they needed to offload and their boss told them to get rid of them. I used to work at a now out of business small high end home electronics store in college, so I knew the ins and outs of the top of the line H/T setups. One day I when it was a 120 outside and I simply wanted to get in my car to get the AC on, I told the guy off, that I knew his shit was a scam and to take his cheap Chinese Alibaba knockoff speakers and shove them up his @$$.
I had this with someone selling me fake cologne at a bus stop, I bought two different brands and they smelled exactly the same packaged in the same bottle with a clear stick on label. The outside packaging looked legit.
Like you said they are the ones putting a lot of pressure and ready to settle for an extremely low price.
I was pretty upset that I fell for it, I usually don't.

My brother gave me a box - Sono2 - with a set of speakers inside - 4 corner speakers, 1 center speaker. He had never used them, he recieved them from a friend. I looked at the speakers when I got home. NO markings at all on any of the 'boxes'. Only wire cable clips on each of them. Hooking them up, I got only a 'hiss' from corner speakers and NOthing out of the center speaker. I removed the front, found 2 four ohm speakers, removed one which had a wire loose. The OTHER speaker - a FAKE!! A blank speaker with no magnet! No wires or solder spud for a wire! All of the speakers ohm out to '00' - a short! This was supposedly a 2000 dollar set. Fortunately I did not pay a cent nor did my brother. LOOK OUT folks!

Only $20?! Come on Joe. The box, screen and terminal are worth that. You could actually add a bluetooth amplifier and real drivers for something kickass. There are tons of videos on DIY speakers! Chin up. I once gave a twenty for a watch that I knew was stolen from the gas station I was at, but I didn't feel like getting robbed - very high pressure, tense situation - it was worth it to walk away unscathed.

Those look like 8 watt drivers. It would’ve been a legit soundbar if it had an HDMI ARC connection on the back, a power cable connect, 3 race track or 6 round midbase drivers accompanied with 3 tweeters.

I'm a very skeptical and prudent buyer but I let my guard down as a some dude with his girl in a car approached me after I came out of Walmart scammed me out of a hundred dollars to buy stereo speakers like yours. They used the same pressure tactics that you just accurately described. Professional con artists need to go to hell.

Damn I paid 140 for the “$900” speaker. It’s crazy because I told the guy how I’ve been struggling to pay rent as a college student. The guy had a new Mercedes GLA and I was in Beverly Hills so I didn’t think much of it.

I just bought one I looked it up on UA-cam to check it out on my way home. After seeing this video I’m going to wrap it up with some Christmas paper and put it under the tree for my son in law. $300
I had a similar experience with a guy selling "commercial surround sound satellite speaker systems". He had 3 boxes and wanted to give them away for free. I said no. he said, "come on, free". He showed me his work shirt and invoice with the same logo. He used that to prove he was legit and worked for someone who installed and repaired speaker systems for restaurants. He had gone to the restaurant Buffalo Wild Wings. He didn't have to exchange the speakers, but he marked down as if he did. He was trying to give them away. then he wanted whatever I could give him. I said $15 maybe $20. He then said, "How about make it $30 and add a zero to that. If I smoked crack I would take that, but I smoke weed which is more expensive". I'm like I'm good, dude. you started with free". At the time, I looked up the model number of the system, and it did show up on amazon. a couple reviews had the exact experience I had.

I haven’t sold speakers in over a decade so I have not even seen what they are selling nowadays but when you pulled off that “wireless” sticker from the back,I almost fell out of my chair LMFAO!!! Back in the 90’s we use to take Polaroids of us at the strip bar with a bunch of cash in our hands and strippers all around us. We knew a lot of the chicks because we would be in the place almost daily. My brother and I ended up dating a few of them but anyway, we would put the pictures in the speakers,unscrew the sub a little and slide the picture in there. So when someone would decide to open it up they would see that picture LMFAO. Oh man those were some fun times lol

A guy sold me 2 open box everse 8 speakers in a parking lot for $100 I thought they were probably fake crap or just crap turned out they were real made by Electro Voice not a scratch on them they work perfect I did write down the guy's license plate number and the make and model of his car before I bought them I didn't know anything about them before I bought them
