Nice tutorial Tom. You sound like you've done that a few times before. It should help out anyone in the future that is attempting the same job.
Thanks! The process is pretty straightforward.
I'll be following along. I'll also be LS swapping my 69 C3. I did a turbo on a 5.3 in my Chevelle, best thing I've done to that car !
I know sometimes time is cheaper than money and it's easy to spend other people's money but, i highly recommend an aftermarket efi system. Can and has it been done on a stock ecu? absolutely !
But the tremendous time and aggravation saved with a Holley Terminator efi would be huge !
Plus, as you may know, the stock ecu WILL need to be tuned/unlocked, so there's that besides the HOURS sorting out a 20+ year old harness that may have hidden gremlins. I also recommend a cam swap, it'd make a big difference for not alot of money, just cam and springs. Let us know what you decide.
PS, if you decide to go Terminator, get the X, that way you can bolt in a 4l65e in the future !
Awesome. Keep me posted on the 69.
Completely agree on the harness. I abandoned the idea of reworking the original harness. No sense of going into it. I splurged and went with a BP Automotive harness. Also have the Holley drop in pump as well. I ordered both of them of Black Friday and saved some money.
Plan is to drop the engine in over Christmas break and then start getting everything hooked up.
Will do !
Well I'm glad you decided to go a different route. While less expensive, the BP says it's a "start up" tune, which will still require you to pay someone to tune it $300-$800, this time and for every change you make. IMO, even though you didn't ask for it, save the pain and expense and go an aftermarket ecu. MANY people are WELL versed in Holley and you're pretty savvy, i bet you could tune it yourself ! Holley has many built in start up tunes. Also, with an OE ecu, if you decide to replace the trans, it'll require a retune on that as well for a 60e/80e.
A terminator Xmax is around $1400 ish. Send that back while you can, lol.
You could save a few bucks on an inline fuel pump. The Holley drop in offers NO real resivior like an OE efi tank would. So there's no real gain buying that pump, you still have starvation issues at 1/4 tank on turns and hills. You'll most likely need to have 1/2 tank at all times to avoid issues. An inline is inexpensive if you must but a dedicated efi tank like the tanks inc one would be ideal.
Just trying to help
What were the rims again? Fat thumbs and small phone, I think I somehow deleted my last comment!!!
