I used Schoenfeld headers with 1-3/4 primaries and 3" collectors. I had them ceramic coated. The rest of the exhaust was done with stainless mandrel bent tubing. with an X pipe and stainless race mufflers. I used band clamps on everything including the header connection. The big problem I ran into was finding square port headers with large tubes for angle plug heads in a Corvette. The only modification to the headers was the collector had to be turned down 15° to clear the floor. They tuck up close to the underside and have nice clearance for the Milodon road race pan. I converted my car to a 4L80E transmission so my rear crossmember has clearance for dual exhaust.
That sound like a pretty cool system with the 3.0 inch pipes out you should be able to flow some pretty good Hp. I’m sure it sounds good thundering down the road. My car on its best day might be 300HP so the 2.5 inch pipe is more then enough.
@33milegarage34 it's barely enough. I have a Dart SHP 427 making 550hp. Ideally I need 1-7/8 primaries and 3-1/2 exhaust. Since it's mainly streegowhat i have Ideally good enough. It's been a real pain trying to tune the FAST XFI multiport efi system. I need to take my car to a professional tuner.
I appreciate your video. I too have a 1970 Corvette. I scored a pair of Hooker Super Competition headers 2134 for $200. The A/C is making the passenger side a bear and I haven’t gotten to the driver side. At least I know about the oil dipstick.

@@33milegarage34 it was to good of a deal to pass up even with a three hour round trip. I have the original exhaust tips like what you were showing and they look brand new. My original plan was to go full 70’s look with Cragar’s and side pipes, but I’ve decided to forgo burning my legs. My current plan is to basically do the same exhaust as you have done. I don’t have any welding skills/experience so I wish I could find a bolt on system. I was planning to go with Black widow “neighbor hater” mufflers but yours really sounds good. I haven’t figured out how to mount the alternator with headers. What bracket did you use? The one on there connect to the driver side exhaust manifold.

We installed these headers on my 1972 Vette. Perfect fit and the exhaust clears with room to spare even with the lower Ridetech suspension. Thanks for the recommendation. Love your videos, keep up the good work. You have to have a sense of humor to work on a C3 Vette.

The Ridetech system is definitely worth it. It is a two man job and the installation video is misleading about how easy the install is. Taking all the rusted bolts out was one problem for sure. If you do this, install the Borgeson power steering system. It is relatively compact and greatly improves your steering. Unlike rack and pinion systems that are available it doesn’t impact turning radius at all. It also doesn’t leak like the stock system does. Extremely helpful to have a full size lift. Hope that helps.

@@33milegarage34 Yeah, my old nova was not too bad. Put some KOOKS long tubes on a 96 Z28. Had to come down from the top on one side and the other came up from the bottom. Had the front of the car about 3 1/2 feet in the air. Took a LOT of breaks. 😂😂
Just watched this for the first time. I have a 71 small block A/T Corvette. It has headers that I might just remove after seeing this. Also it has a factory looking welded exhaust whose mufflers are intrusive on the inside rear tire clearance. Do your mufflers live completely behind the tires? That is the solution I'd want. My car has rear control arms with extra offset so I CAN fit some meat back there. Nice video, informative without a bunch of extraneous hoo hah.
welcome to the channel. So the mufflers tuck up hi and sit right behind the exhaust tips, you can barely see them and are black in color so they blend in with the under body. I have about 5 inches of clearance from the rear edge of the tire to the mufflers on each side for reference we have a P255/60/R15 tire on the car. Thanks for the comment and watching

I like the way the headers tuck in for clearance. My potential problem is I have a Ridetech suspension which has lowered the car about two inches. Obviously clearance is critical and I think the headers you installed would be ideal for my car. I think what I’m looking at on Summit is part number DOU-D350 for the headers you have. Could you confirm that as I think this is what I want to get for my car. Thanks

@@33milegarage34 The Ridetech system is unbelievable. Well worth the money. 275/40R18 tires with no body modifications. Tires are 10 inches wide on rear and 8 inches wide on the front. Changed the whole look of the car and the handling is 21st century.
Mike, I have a 1970 LS5, do you know how much more difficult is it to install the Doug’s headers on a 454 big block? I’m sure it’s a much tighter fit trying to fish the headers into place with a BB.
I would think for a big block car you may need to take the engine mount bolts out and lift the engine up a bit to do it. I have no sponsorship from Doug’sHeader but it”s a great product that fits very good. Good luck and let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching!
@@33milegarage34 thanks Mike. I found that others have installed OBX headers on a C3 big block so I’m doing some more research on that first. Right now, one of the bolts in the front upper driver’s side A-Arm decided to come apart so I’m dealing with that and a leaky replacement BeCool aluminum radiator.
I purchased the headers from summit racing website. Search for year, engine, transmission and AC. A lesson learned the hard way for me, sometimes people use different alternator brackets that interfere with your fit. Good luck on the project.

454 is a lot harder than a 350. Havent found any to fit my 73 454 4 speed without denting them to fit
