Never seen any with baffles. And the hole size will depend on the size of your incubator. I believe my 1202 has 3/4 to 1 inch holes, but it's a big machine.

I like your video's. Thank you. However, a comment on the eggs and time before incubating.... Grandparents used to raise chickens and they would collect the eggs and put them in a room that was 55 degrees F, +/- one degree, and they could collect eggs for weeks and weeks until they got 1000 or so, and then put them in the incubators all at once. They would ALL hatch within a day of each other regardless if they were laid 6 weeks prior or the day before being incubated. ---- Have you thought about the ambient temp of eggs to keep them in a dormant state so they keep longer? --- Just a thought and comment. Old shop tchr of 40+ yrs.
I am cheap lol. i would like to make a better one with forced air but finding the stuff here is hard and amazon dont deliver here in Switzerland I dont know why....
Urban Aviary Thanks for the quick reply! Also about how much space would I need for about 100-125 chicks? I know as they get old enough to get out of the brooder but until then do they still need 4 per square foot or can I go a little more dense when they’re small?
Keep your eggs between 8 to 12 °C. The temperature should be stable. Then you can keep your eggs for at least 3 weeks without too much loss in fertility.

Great post I want a new incubator. Mine is a bulb in a Styrofoam box. It works but not great.
There's something cool about a homebuilt unit though, especially when it's on the cheap.

A guy on you tube suggests using 32% protein floating catfish food from tractor supply and grinding it up for his quail. Your thoughts on this please.
That'll give you the protein but not the other things they need in their diet.

I've never built one. This one is from GQF, it's about $800. You might find one for cheaper used on Craigslist.
Does your 1202 stop auto rotation after 18 days?
been hatching for years found storing eggs for 7 days at 50-55 degrees gives a better hatch rate.

Did I understand correctly that I can keep eggs for 10 days at room temp and still have good hatch rates? I thought they had to stay pretty cold
That's right. And keeping them cold will reduce viability. That's the last thing I'd do to hatching eggs.
