Who needs a gimbal when you have magic hydraulic arms?!
XD
@@ThomasAlexNorman Jeez dude :D if i would do that without a gimbal you couldn't use the footage :D
Don’t need a gimbal when you use slow motion
Just a tip
In the tree's flower shot, instead of going out of focus to in focus, do the contrary. Start in focus and go backwards loosing focus. Then, reverse it in the edit. It works like a charm.
Keep up the good work! Great video.
Davi Ayres good tip.
That's such a smart idea! I'll definitely keep that in mind
That is the correct way
M
I love how you show a preview after taking the little bit of b-roll. Makes me excited and happy
Damn I love how you are able to ignore the people who wonder what you are doing. I still get very self conscious about people looking at me while I'm recording. Half the time, I'm not even talking into the camera which I'm sure would be even harder. Maybe you should write a video about that one day mate. Anyway, thanks for the tips. Whoever gave this video a thumbs down is a weak hater with serious mental issues. They are jealous that their work sucks and instead of working on doing better, with your tips, they rather live life a loser. Cheers Mate!
I am 100% with you on this one! I was very self conscious for a long time, trying to put videos together and getting absolutely no where as I'd lose my trail of thought every time someone would walk near me ... I could be knocking a shot out the park, see someone and freeze 😦👎 Keep at it though, for me it was just a case of scripting bullet points so I had a rough idea what I wanted to say, taking a deep breathe, fighting that fear and rolling with it ... Eventually I began to see nobody really bothered and those who did actually took an interest, asking questions about my channel & giving advice on what I should be looking to film in their towns, etc 😁

Me too! I want that lesson! I just don’t know what to do with my fear of the crowd 🙈🤷♀️
The youtube life 🙌🏻
Fit By Travel great! I hope I’ll be the same 🤗
All you do is pretend you're a pro on "assignment" and like you're too busy to care what peeps are doing! LOL
Love your videos mate, I always find your tips useful - no nonsense and straight to the point. ^^
Good one, keep it up....
Thomas
I try to be, cheers
I've been loving this series!! At times, I came home from a shoot and go through the clips and felt so unsatisfied that I never used them, but I couldn't put my finger on what I was doing "wrong." I'm realizing from your tips that I've been doing silly little things like filming 10-second clips in which I spend 5 seconds looking for the shot. These tips will definitely help me maximize my time and storage, and I'm excited to use them in my next video, so thank you !!
You're one of my favorite youtubers! I really learn a lot from you. I create travel videos as well. 🤗
Ive seen quite a few tutorials about shooting b-roll in youtube but I find this the most useful- when we can actually see you doing it and follow along. Thanks for the tips!
This is perfectly the kind of tutorial I’d been looking for for quite some time. Thanks a lot for making this. You’re amazing
You made that look way too easy. In your cuts, did people complain about being videotaped? I'm always worried some stranger will go off on me if I'm randomly recording and they cross into my view.
Hey, Thomas. For the flower shot, you can always start in focus on the subject and then move backwards and then play the clip in reverse in post so that it looks like you're moving into focus. Just a thought. Daniel Schiffer does a great job explaining it in his videos.
I really appreciate how you emphasized sequencing the shots, moving from wide to close. Always easier to plan your shots and how they’re going to fit together then feel the frustration of missing a key shot when you’re putting things together in post. Super well done video. So helpful. Thank you very much.
Thomas, this is amazing techniques and explanation. Also good idea to show short samples in between shooting rather that waiting for the last part to see the full clip.
I recently started doing a bit of videos myself, and I was struggling to get stable shots handheld. but they way you do it, just amazes me. Thank you for great hands on tutorial.
I can't get nowhere near the way you are doing, practice makes perfect _ I guess. Got a gimball for smooth shots and that solved few issues, but the weight of it kills me after a full day of walking around. Plus XH1, Well you have to sacrifice in some other areas in order to get a desired smooth shooting. Thank you. Will wait for more videos like that from you.
Awesome vid! Lots of inspiration in there! Love the little rando balloon struggling in the tree branches @13:46 lol. Tre Random and super cute touch. I bet you staged the whole thing 🙄😝 Love it! haha
the end result was really cool, alex. i walked away with some really nice ideas from this. thanks!
Nice 👍 thanks for this..

No idea how I found your channel but im so happy I did! I'm truly feeling inspired thank you SO MUCH for sharing all your tips!!
Alex, do you usually film in 120fps?
Hey Thomas...just wanted to pop in and say thank you. I've noticed that you took some of the suggestions/requests and applied them over the recent videos...specifically how to shoot in locations other than the forest.
There is still one request that I believe would be helpful for most of us...and that is how to shoot these cinematic shots but with subjects as we more often than not travel with family/friends.
Great stuff though...thank you!
Which camera did u use here please?. Looks really portable. Looking for a small "good" point and shoot camera.
Anybody know how to do that transition at 13:32?
Love you videos, really learning a lot from you. How about some brolls for a group of friends in a park? Can you do an examples for that too? Thanks 😊
thank you Thomas, great video!

Hey Thomas, thank you for all your good work sharing how to"s...Question: When handholding & shooting video... Do you ever shoot in slo motion? lol at 11:18 you just answered my question...

Name of the City?
Awesome video Thomas as usual I just wanted to ask because you are not using an ND filter so you just have the aperture on auto yeah? I am so confused at the minute whether to keep using an ND or to just use aperture auto to save time any thoughts tips??
With all your tips will be awesome if you create a b roll challenge and then review it and give us your impression =)
hi Thomas, I trying to get more cinematic videos and was wondering is it important to have a "story" to the video. I am struggling to implement a story into my videos. They have theme, but no story.
thanks man. I learned a lot... jusr subsribed from Ph
Grrrrr 😡 First pay off in the video of showing the first transition from distant to zoomed in was ruined by an ad break right in the middle of it. GOT TO CUSTOMIZE where the ads are placed in the vid. Other than that, gear video, thanks.
I love this video so much, you always see the best in every little thing ❤
Awesome job, man! Thank you for your effort and for sharing your tips! :) Greetings from Germany!
Amazing!! I love these videos!! My amazing UA-cam videos will be down to you Thomas lol! ☺️🙏🏾👌🏾

Alright thanks for your sharing tip and techniques boss.. I try like that when i blog using my smartphone
Very informative man, like your style!
very much appreciate your video, you always can find the beauty point from the very common daily-life scenes, thank you for your very useful tips
Did you have to obtain filming permission from the council or elsewhere? If your channel is monetized then that's considered filming for commercial use.Can you please confirm if you had to do it?
Hey thor I know its you. Can you comeback to asgard now we have wifi here we can see your utube channel
Simple and awesome at the same time, really enjoyed your tips and definitely gonna be using them in my next travel video. Thanks 😉
Hello Thomas, than you very much for such a helpful video. I subscribed your channel and looking forward to more content from you. Wish you all the best and greetings from germany. Michael
Hi Thomas .. in this vid you set up your camera fps shot to 24fps or always 50/60 fps ? Someone said if u shot at 24fps it will stuttering when u slow motion it ..
My Nikon D3100 can shoot at only 30 FPS , can I still have smooth slow motion using Premiere etc?
The best👍
The video i've been waiting for. Really learn a lot from you mate. Keep up the good content.
I'd really like to see a complete b roll sequence in 24 fps. Would you do that? Thanks. Love your videos
Thank you for making this video and the tips so now I can improve the footage filming of my videos.
Might I suggest not using auto exposure? Your exposure is all over the place between shots (and since we can see it change depending on where you point the camera in the picture-in-picture, it's clear that it's on auto), which doesn't make for great footage. Learn to expose manually and it'll immediately look less amateurish. Keep it up!
Tom, God knows how the heck do you make difficult bits look so easy.
Epic!
Nice video, thanks for this b roll, this is helpful like me. What camera u are using, is it a Sony rx100 mark? Thanks. See u in your next video
Really? San Sebastian filming BROLL and you get that? all in the same area pretty much. not a big effort for that video in my opinion .
bro your voice is like brad pitt
Hei Thomas,
Can you please let me know what camera you are using mate.
By the way great cinematic video.
Keep your good work.
Cool tricks, I have been practising these tricks so many times for my travel videos. Hope I will perfect it one day
Which camera is that ? And what resolutions did u use to shoot those videos? I really liked it.
Well put video, using different elements to focus on texture, light, story. Love how it can together!
Thanks for such amazing tricks, keep coming up with more 💯

Hey Thomas - Weird question but what kinda kicks are you rockin' in this video??
Which frame rate do you use to make them look so smooth, kinda slowmo but not quite? 😊
What camera did you use on this shoot. Is it the Canon GX 7. If so how do you find the auto focus

Am I the only one who thought the thumbnail looks like Gulliver in Lilliput? 😛
