I started intermittent fasting 5 years ago with 16:8 I have always been diligent in my self care from a very young age. I was never overweight as a child but my extremely naturaly thin little friends would say I was fat or that if I ate a particular thing I was going to get fat. Even at this very young age maybe 10, I was determined to take control of this and I started not eating at all and experienced early stages of anorexia. I recall nearly fainting at one point. My mother begging me to eat. But thankfully my mother offered me a healthy alternative...she encouraged me to do aerobic exercise tapes at home with her which I o absolutely loved. Luckily I loved theatrics like dancing and singing...that combined with my extreme ability of extremel will power with eating a healthy diet provided me with a lifelong pattern of healthy eating and exercise. I also believe being a Capricorn helped. Lol. But now in my adult life, 5 years ago I happened upon this idea of intermittent fasting ...i immediately implemented this and it has changed my life forever. I started with 16 hours fasting and 8 hours eating which was challenging at first but i listened to my body ...something I learned to do at such an early age and continued with throughout my life... slowly over time the fasting became so much easier and then over the course of 5 years it became so much easier that my body no longer craved constant food...as I listened to it more ..i just easily increased the fasting window to 17, 18...and at times more leading me to the 1 meal a day on some days with complete ease. I don't even typically feel hungry. I practice very detailed self care every day. I walk 15k a day and add weight resistance 3 times a week. I make sure to get enough sleep every night, I eat a very nutritionally healthy diet with lots of organic whole foods though I do enjoy some sweets most nights as a treat but with moderation, and I also incorporate red light/ infrared light from 2 full body size panels also every day. I don't expose my body to sun without spf and also somewhat limit direct sun exposure but do get outside plenty including walks with a UVB umbrella. My annual bloodwork is exceptional according to my Provider. I really do believe in listening to your body....some days if I haven't had enough sleep my body is hungrier so I just eat earlier in that window.etc. I initially lost weight when I started fasting but now my body has settled in at the exact BMI that's considered healthy according to my height and current weight...it no longer fluctuates.... I no longer have gastrointestinal occurences and I feel healthy. I feel like intermittent fasting isn't even what I practice anymore..its just my lifestyle. I stay active all day and mostly forget I haven't eaten yet...but i do look forward to a nice balanced meal when it is time to eat. Maybe it's not for everyone but it certainly has been great and life changing for me.
Anything the FDA says to eat I just do the opposite. I recommend reading “Health and Beauty Mastery” by Julian Bannet, that book is a real eye opener about shocking stuff health industry is doing! I completely changed my habits
I think the most important part of this clip is where she talks about "tuning in to your own body". General guidelines of feeding windows are only that - guidelines, for the average person, without looking at any personal details. F.e. fasting might be of advantage for people with an excess fat storage, but will be detrimental for any person lacking this fat storage - and there are more then one might think by looking at the "statistics for the average US-citizen". I think that is very important to keep in mind. First and foremost think about your personal circumstances, and do not just take on every guideline that is thrown at you without adjusting it to your personal needs.
No food after 530 pm for years. The real cheat code for me is also twice a week fast mimicking protocol. I maintain adequate protein and nutrients just very low calories. I'm very active and most of my "wear and tear" symptoms are gone and have not resurfaced for a long long time.
If you have a 6-7 hr eating window, you’re basically “gifting” yourself 1-2 hrs of free time every day by not planning, preparing and cleaning up a 3rd meal. And I love it!😂
In one of the ancient religion jainsim Fasting is a way of life , eating period is after sunrise and before sunset . after sunset you can only have to take water . I have seen that elder ones who truly follows their vows live till 100 years of age . I asked them whats your secret they said our lifestyle(which is eating after sunrise and before sunset ) , less stress ,less medications(increases natural immunity) ,pure unadultratedand unprocessed food is the cause .
Ive been doing intermittent fast from 8pm to 11-12 in morning and i have kept the same weight i wanted to stay at eventhough i eat whatever i want to. But i also do workout 1hr every other day also. It def does work but you gotta also eat decently healthy or cut out some carbs but intermittent fasting does work. I only workout though, no cardio at all other than walking at work
I’ve always thought fasting is important for simply training your body’s ability go into ketosis and burn fat. This body system needs to be exercised like everything else.
When I am dealing with a stressful situation, is when "fasting" is most helpful. It feels like a superpower then. These are two people who clearly haven't experimented enough.
Can you speak on your interview with Dr. Stacy Sims, who basically says women should not do Intermittent Fasting or TRE? I’m honestly confused by the conflicting messages.
I agree with Dr Stacy Simms - eat soon after waking up to blunt the cortisol spike. I would delay eating until 11am/12 - I lost weight but had terrible anxiety overall and got headaches. I feel much better now eating breakfast, lunch and dinner all at normal times. 12-13 hours btween dinner and breakfast is enough of a 'fast' for me. Simms just calls it 'normal eating '!
I usually do a 6-8 hour window that starts at around 8 am and ends at 2-4 pm. My heaviest meal is easily breakfast and linner is light with tons of vegetables and beans.
Quick question. The day time hours per say varies by a meaningful margin the further we go from the equator. Does this imply that if we eat with the day time hours concept, we would need to have a very restrictive food window in winter months , while the window can relax to 8 -12 hours in the summer months ? Does this seasonal variability help in any meaningful way ?
I don’t think daytime hours are as important as your circadian rhythm here. Generally speaking, its best to fast as many hours before your bedtime as you can, at least 2 to 3 hours, ideally 4 or more.
I do IF. 18-19 hours fasting. I eat breakfast between 11-12 and dinner around 5 most days. On days I don't I will go at LEAST 12 hours fasting and it is always 2-3 meals a day. NO SNACKING.
Everything is "Context" specific. That's purpose driven. Even mathematics is specific. So, it's no use discussing some ambiguous generalizations. Fasting means to Speed up, Tighten up etc. Food is just one content in that.
Great clip and information...i definitely think thr 8hr window better. Thats what i strive for. And thank you for clarifying the fasting study. I feel they would need to take in account personal information also . I believe other factors may be causing heart issue, other than simply fasting. But that is just my opinion. Thank you for sharing .
I eat from 11-5 every day, little more carbs pre workout earlier in my day, low carb high protein post workout which is roughly 3:30-4:00 sometimes to 4:15ish. Eating last meal by 4:30-4:45. Feel amazing! Way more flexible on weekends mostly to allow for friends family social type stuff but still super rare to eat before 9am or after 7pm.
What if the same amount of kcal were eaten in a 12 hour window, but it was eaten in just 2 meals. Examples 1 and 2, 0900 and 2100 or 0600 and 1800 No snacking in between.
I think that just returning to what was done traditionally for kids and just have 3 meals a day without snacks will be extremely beneficial. Also eliminate all sugary drinks for kids including fruit juice and just give them whole fruits as desserts after they eat a high protein meal so you control their insulin spikes. Dr Lustig did a study at his UCSF obesity clinic in which obese kids just had the fructose in their diet replaced by glucose and it was a huge benefit to all the health markers of the kids. The only fructose that was allowed were the ones coming from whole fruits
How does this work? Brft, going to work, 8.5 hours of work, going to the gym=10.5 hrs. I am hungry after the gym. How do you do this with regular work hours. Not everyone works from home or have flexible hours. Am i not suppose to eat brft if i work out after work? My brain doesn't start up without my brft. ????
I eat lunch and dinner. Lunch 11 to 12ish and dinner 6 to 7ish. I find it best to workout in the morning before work. If any of it feels like it won’t work, your body will adjust after about 3 weeks of doing it. Your body just gets accustomed to a schedule and it takes time to change it. When your brain gets used to doing things in a fasted state, it will become more efficient at doing them over time. I find myself being most productive when fasted between my 7 am workout and lunch. If you would have asked me to do that 5 years ago, I would have thought it was crazy.
Yes exactly, she’s saying having a 6 hour window for consuming all your meals and let the body rest from eating during the rest of the day (18 hours) seems to be very helpful for your health. She also suggests this window to be close to the beginning of the day than after dark
@@sandroalmeida5811 ok, got it. so eating food in only 6-7 hours window and not eating anything after that. i was initially thinking she meant a meal after every 6-7 hour. Thanks.
Yes you are correct, there is lots of data that shows the brain literally functions better with food. IF became a marketing tool to make money. If it works for you great, but saying “you feel sharper when fasted” is just a placebo effect.
@@DocMurphtruly the opposite for me. I fast for 12 hrs, 6AM-6Pm twice a week. At 1-3pm was the hardest. But before and after that was awesome, you get in the zone and have more energy actually. When I ate @6PM, my energy went down till about 8PM then level out.
Intermittent fasting worked well for me for about 8 or 9 months. Then my body adjusted and I gained all my weight back. I continue to IF, but went carnivore 6 of 7 days. I’ve lost 20 lbs of fat and gained 10 lbs of muscle in 8 months.
Its best to have your last meal 2-3 hours prior to sleep, you stress your body by eating just before bed. Your body will become inflamed internally over night
Why does Huberman not want to acknowledge the benefits of fasting! It's ridiculous. He just hasn't done OMAD enough to adapt to it, I assume. Eating in a 6-hour window is easy, but doesn't make sense. Why would you be hungry again within 6 hours?! Dr. Means notion that eating in the day is natural because of diurnal rhythms also is questionable. We hunt and gather all day and eat in the evening when the sun goes down and go to bed. That seems our natural cycle, if you were going to choose one way to live now in our modern civilization. OMAD at night is the best way to go. You stay alert and motivated all day, and when you wake up you have digested all your food and you are energized. Try it!
A 6 hr feeding window isn't tough for me. That's exactly what I do nearly 100% of the time. You guys would shit if you could see a before photo of me compared to my avatar now. I'm 54.
