Man I love going back and watching some of these old videos. The tactical Warfighter thing got me rolling. Sure did let it all hang out there back in the day🤣! Wanted to come up with a Vmax load for a good standby hunting round and you got to love it when you're research is funny like this.
When shooting those 110gr VMAXs yes they are a varmint bullet but when shooting 300 blackout velocities they tend to act like a Hornady SST or Interlock. You got to remember these bullets are designed around caliber that shoot 2800+ fps not designed at 300 blackout velocities. A SST or interlock will act like a bonded bullet, a vmax will act like a SST or interlock etc. That is why barnes came out with the special barnes bullet for the 300 blackout. I have had a few friends harvest deer with a Vmax in the 100-200 yards and using those vmaxes most of them have passed through.
I have had the same experience with Lil-Gun and H-110 behind 130gr MK319 mod 0 bullets I got cheap from Midway. Amazing accuracy (.475" @ 50yrd Std Dev of 7) out of a 14.5" Aero Precision barrel using 19.0gr H-110 and Winchester SR primers. Li-Gun did not do as well and as will you is off the table. Can't wait to try 300 BLK!
110 Grain VMAX actually perform well at 300 Blackout Velocities. At Blackout velocities they actually mushroom out and expand really well. I would call them a Varmint bullet at 308 velocities but not 300 blackout velocities.
I was able to take 4 Alabama deer with the 110 grain V MAX . I'm loading it with H-110 21.5 grains of powder and COL 2.100 and I'm getting 2479 FPS give it a shot and shooting from a 16 inch barrel I love this load.
Did you get good penetration? I've seen other people recommend the V-Max but I worried about them coming apart like a varmint bullet and not giving sufficient penetration for deer. I recently got some balllistic gel so I'm planning to test it.
Oh, and congratulations! They clearly got the job done...I'm not looking to put down your bullet in any way. Just looking for a terminal ballistics report! The price is right, I've got some on hand to test, so I'd love to hear that they worked well.
Had complete pass through on three and the last one was lodged under his skin. The four shots were from 75 to 200 yards and the one that didn't pass through was a 8 pointer that dressed out at 197 lbs. I was absolutely blown away with what that little bullet has done for me.
@@JohnnysReloadingBench it has been my experience that the 30 cal. varmint style bullets don’t explode at 300 blackout velocities. They expand well but stay together in very nice mushrooms. They make better hunting bullets than the hunting bullets when running at these slower speeds.
I thought that was a 10" barrel. 8.5 is a bit short. I think I have a resolve to your issue. You need to put extra lube on those cases so they stretch a bit more ;)
I know this video is kinda old but I get the same issue with h110. I get less velocity from 21grn than I do with 20.5 grn. I was puzzled when it happened so I loaded up 5 more of each and same result. 21grn was 25 fps slower than 20.5 on average. I was using 110 grain barnes TAC-TX and cci #400 small rifle primers.
It is your barrel length, I run a 16inc for max velocity, that barrel is too short for the velocity you are desiring. But I love your videos man. I appreciate what you are doing.
Considering that 300 blackout was designed around a 9 inch barrel it really isn’t too short. 300 blackout was designed for super secret squirrel SEAL teams and other operators. I wouldn’t even dare mess with a 16 inch 300 blackout, at that point just shoot 308 out of a SCAR 17 to really get some rounds screaming out of a basic 30 caliber gun.
+HammeringHank100 The CCI 41's I'm using are magnum equivalents. I do have some standard SR Magnums I could try, but I don't think they'll be any hotter than the 41's.
I've heard that the 110 gr. V-Max is awesome for hunting feral pigs. Personally, I would be happier if the V-Max had the "boat tail" like the GMX has. Loading them would be easier.
I have shot 200 yd mountain mule deer and caribou and 250-300 lb black bear. Bear were 80yds and 140 yards all with the set. Through deer at almost 200. 18 gr h110 2150 is fps.
Lil Gun 18.2gr 125gr bullets in 16" barrel = 2250 - 2300fps. That gives you a lot more bullet expansion room engineering. You need a 16" barrel for more fps with Lil Gun.
lil gun is a prob a slower burning powder. your short barrel blackout is just too short to take advantage of the slower burn.. the bullet is out of the barrel before the powder is done burning
+smitty4699 I think he's dealing with the erratic properties when you start compressing a load. Threshold states are always the least consistent. I think he is sitting on the boundary between compressed load characteristics and non-compressed behavior.
+The Reloader Dude Whitetails and smaller. The Barnes bullets require at least 1300fps to expand reliably. The Hornadys are 1600fps, I believe. If you start with 1800-1900 at the muzzle you're not going to have much effective range. Every fps we can squeeze out of these loads will extend the effective range of the gun! I talk this through at the end of the video.
im thinking that with the lower effective spread of powders(compared to .308), if you're running an ocw it might be better to run increments of like .1-.2 grains to really dial in on the accuracy node. I'm crazy about accuracy though. anyways, good luck, it's looking like you might have a decent round to begin wit!
+smitty4699 H110 is the same as W296, which I am testing in this video. It provided the best velocities and will probably be the powder I end up using.
If mag dumpers piss you off, you should see how mad I was when I drove 2 hours to the public outdoor range at the state park and an entire militia had taken it over and put their tacticool pelican cases on every station, then proceeded to sit down and do a class (I guess these people never shot before) for over an hour while everyone was expected to wait. I was like hell no, I pulled their shit right off the stations and told people get up here fuck that shit. When they got shooting their commander could barely even get their shots on paper.
+Ghase031 It is an 8.5" Rainier Ultramatch with a Rainier bolt carrier group. Upper and rail are Bravo Company. I'll make sure to add that info to future videos.
+My Reloading Bench Cool, well from my research I have done for supersonic rounds in 9-10.5 barrels you're going to max out around 2100-2225fps. So your right in the ballpark with that 8.5 barrel.......
+Ghase031 If I could do it again I would have purchased the AAC 300 Blackout MPW( factory SBR) with the 12.5 barrel and not the 9"..... Great gun though
+Ghase031 I went with 8.5 because I wanted a really compact package when I get my suppressor. Once I have my can I plan to shoot suppressed pretty much all the time. I hear the can will add some velocity as well, but I'll need to back the loads off a bit and work them back up. I've still got a few more months before I get my SBR stamp and can, which sucks. Even if I top out at 2200fps, I should still stay above 1300fps (minimum velocity for the TAC-TX to expand reliably) out to around 300 yards. If I add some safety margin and set my max range at 200-250 yards, I still consider that pretty darn good. Definitely a serviceable hunting gun for the thick woods I hunt.
I used a 110 v Max on prarrie dogs in Colorado. There were two lined up so I thought I would get a 2 for 1. The first one vaporized and the second one just stood there and watched the head of the first one went straight up in the air. We had a lot of ranchers come to the gun shop and ask us to help thin out the herd of prarrie dogs. The holes were breaking thier livestocks legs and they had to put them down. That's when I discovered the 17 Remington. Great Prairie dog round.

its amazing that youre getting that kind of accuracy out of a pistol

Good to know. I know the Barnes will drop them dead. But the price. Baby Jesus hep me.
I agree 100 percent! At 300 AAC velocities between 2100 and 2300 FPS they actually mushroom out and perform very well.

16” barrel test would be cool

Barrel length, that gun is probably more suited to the heavier bullets.

I am getting 2200 fps with 20gr h110 out of 9.5 in barrel 110gr tac-tx. Lil'gun shines in longer barrels. Lil'gun sucks in short barrels.
Man I really like the "Original, RAW" Johnny!! Hope all is well with you.. Miss your videos..
I been using H110 and WC 820. Looks like im going to try some lil gun. Thanks for the video
I thought that was a 10" barrel. 8.5 is a bit short. I think I have a resolve to your issue. You need to put extra lube on those cases so they stretch a bit more ;)
How long is the barrel on that pistol?

Should be able to pickup additional FPM using magnum primers. Your barrel is to short. Use faster burning powder. Good Luck, Hank

2o grains of CFE Blk would have gotten you over 2000 feet per second, 2300 with 23.3C?
lil gun is a prob a slower burning powder. your short barrel blackout is just too short to take advantage of the slower burn.. the bullet is out of the barrel before the powder is done burning
+smitty4699 Lil' Gun is the fastest powder I have!! It's above everything else on the burn rate chart.
+My Reloading Bench LOL,, ok, then I'm at a loss as well
+smitty4699 I think he's dealing with the erratic properties when you start compressing a load. Threshold states are always the least consistent. I think he is sitting on the boundary between compressed load characteristics and non-compressed behavior.
What are you going to hunt? I would think 1800-1900 fps is good for a lot without overfilling.

Good stuff man.
get a 16" barrel, I get 2100 fps with 18 grains of w296
hodgdon 110 bro, that seems to be the hot setup for 300 BO. you should seee velocities well over 2100 with max load
+smitty4699 H110 is the same as W296, which I am testing in this video. It provided the best velocities and will probably be the powder I end up using.

Have you looked into 30 cArbine bullets I think it's more of a pistol bullet
+daniel quevedo I've seen people discuss them but I haven't looked into it much.
To slow rate of burn for the length of barrel. your better off trying a pistol powder.

You should do it with the 16" rifle.
What happed to this Johnny definitely not the one I follow these days 😅🤣😅🤣
Try 300 MP
My previous comment was in a 18 in 1/8 twist
get a sled haha its killing me too
It's good to vent once in a while. HUH?
