Johnny, I called Maker and got the load data for the 200 gr Rex 16”carbine with gemtec Supressor, their factory loads are 10.5 grains of 1680 at 2.10” with CCI 400 primers.
I have the same 10.3" barrel that shoots about the same as yours. Mine shoots the 190gr. Maker Rex well under 1.5" @ 100 yds for 5 shots. Thank you for posting your results from your 300blk test.
My subs are Everglades 220 plated, and I'm seating them 2.23". They fly well and are very accurate at 75 yards. I just made a batch, and am going to try them at 100 yards this weekend.
I'm working up a load for these too, bought a box of 50 a few weeks ago; however, I just looked at the Maker Bullet site and these are not on there anymore! looks like there is a new 200 gr bullet!!! Atlas they are improving there design.
It looks like the page is still there but they are out of stock. The pictures on the page are the old design. That's been my problem with Maker....out of date website and everything out of stock.www.makerbullets.com/proddetail.php?prod=308200SBLK
Just picked up a box of these guys. I think I may be headed to kaboom town. I didn't think about the difference in case capacity between these 200gr copper and 200gr lead projectiles
Here in Illinois we are allowed to slug guns and muzzleloaders only the but we are allowed revolvers and we can use AR pistols... Thinking of building a 300 blackout pistol for close range. Thanks for your info and time! I enjoy your videos!
I'm with the others think this is your huckleberry for the big boy, the 200grns will give the punch to get through the shoulder if you have to, but a heart/double lung shouldn't be an issue. Looking forward to a post mortum on your big boy and a couple doe's....
That's funny I had the same dilemma last hunting season. I have the Lehigh 194 loaded up though vs the Barns Tac TX. Didn't get to use either though. This year I'm using my Grendel. I say you use the Sub Sonic loads. Very curious to see what kind of damage it will do.
by the way, first time trying win 296 and i feel like its almost too small ball powder...it even sticks to the brass weight pan!!! may stick with 1680. Keep up the great work!! good luck getting that BUCK!!!
my goto with 1680 is 11.5gr 2.260 cci400 208 amax stays subsonic im on the coast so 50' elevation. 3/4 group at 100 yards. i know its not expanding but great out my 10.5 inch barrel running a adjustable block and jp spring
Just curious why you're wanting a 200 gr subsonic for deer? I get it for hogs where it's common to use a suppressor. Just curious why you wouldn't go with the 110 or 125 TRex for a flatter trajectory and (I assume) more reach? I'm kicking around this idea myself. I just have a hard time getting to that project because I normally use my Grendel and it absolutely ROCKS ;) Makes it hard to prioritize this project enough to actually get to it. Ultimately, I'm looking for a multi-purpose load that works for deer out to 100-150 yds as well as a good defensive load.
Checking alot of recent loads posted fotthe 190gr and heavier bullets at the subsonic mark and noticed the pressure generated with CFEBLk is quite a bit lower than other powders and wanted your thoughts, mine being it should make for a quieter load suppressed or not.
I would like to see Bullseye with this similar test. It's a very fast burning powder and may stabilize those big bullets better. How knows I might be worse I have no idea lol. Unique would be good too.
Do 200gr bullets HAVE to be subsonic? The biggest problem with the heavy bullets not expanding is velocity.. Can you just load them full power ....? I would think some supersonic heavy gr bullets could be pretty good
Off topic but can you recommend a good place online to buy brass I purchased some from a company Calle once fired brass and was not happy at all with it. Much of it was by a no name brass maker and was crap anyway any help appreciated
Why are you planning on hunting subsonic? Most bullets are designed to expand at the higher end velocities. Not saying it won't make a clean kill at 40 yards.... just seems a little more sure using supersonic.
Just for the challenge. Same reason I bow hunt, or muzzleloader hunt, or gun hunt with anything less than a 300 Win Mag. These bullets are specifically designed to expand at subsonic velocities. It's going to be a real challenge. Shot placement will be EVERYTHING!
Nope, he didn't was a couple of years ago, he saw it during rifle but was a far shot, something like a .308win in a bolt gun would have given him a chance, oh well.....
I'll be going for shot placement just like I'm bow hunting. Need to stay away from that shoulder! Like you said...heart or double lung would be perfect.
I shot a doe two weeks ago using 208gr AMAX subsonic and thought I had great shot placement.. Found 2 drops of blood 60 yards from where I shot. That was it for the blood trail, never recovered doe. Looked for 2 days!! , had read online AMAX , was a good round to take deer, but I don't think bullet ever expanded at that subsonic speed, and thinking it flew right threw her. I'm now going to try the Lehigh Defense 194 gr maximum expansion on the next opportunity I get, if I'm lucky enough to get another try, Georgia is tougher to hunt now that it's into December. Good luck with that buck. I want to use my suppressed blackout this year and coming years.. But I need to verify that these subsonic versions coming out really do the job, thanks for all your videos.. So informative.. Good Luck
You'll have much better luck with those Lehighs! In case you didn't already see, I tested them in another video. They were just a tad more accurate than the Maker bullets but about twice the cost, so I decided to choose Maker. Both did amazingly well in gel tests, though. I killed a doe a few weeks ago with the Maker and was really impressed by its performance. I've read those same recommendations for the AMAX as a hunting bullet and it baffles me. The AMAX is a match bullet and the best you could hope for is that it tumbles or yaws to create a wound channel. More likely is that you just poke a pencil hole through them and lose the deer, I would think. Even expanding bullets like the new ELD-X are not designed to expand at velocities as low as ours and are totally useless. Good luck, man! You'll get the next one with those Lehighs. Just keep the range short and the shot placement good. Here's the video of my doe kill with the 200gr Maker: ua-cam.com/video/3aMwkSI3ias/v-deo.html
Thanks for responding Johnny, I just ordered some 220 Gr Maker REX ammo, I did not see the 200 gr except for the loose bullets to reload, so I hope they have the same results as you tested, I like the way they expand compared to the Lehigh's that peeled back. Both should do the job though. Thanks for posting the doe video!! I tell you the thing I liked about shooting with the suppressor is that when I did take that shot at the doe, the other 2 deer that was with her did not bolt to the hills.. But only jumped a few feet as to say what the heck was that !! Totally confused and ran 20 yards and stopped to try and locate me.. If I were shooting un-suppressed, they would have ran to the next county..

The 220 is a brand new bullet from Maker that I haven't been able to test yet. I expect them to perform great. I should have some for testing really soon.

Just got my first deer today. It was a black tail doe small but still nice.
Congratulations! That's really awesome.
Johnny's Reloading Bench thank you.
Those bullets flower out like a mechanical broadhead. I imagine the tissue damage is devastating assuming they open up upon impact.

Nice buck. Reminds me of muley's in New Mexico. I am hoping to find some info on the 200gr Sierra SBT or Hornady Interlock for hogs suppressed.
Great testing.

Yep, it's called a .300 win mag.
are you saying the chamber pressures of 300blk are too high to push a 200gr bullet faster then 1050fps

He already said in earlier videos Whaitbelt44....He wants to hunt with a silencer so that takes subsonic ammo..
Try some N120 with those Makers
Johnny,
Did you harvest that 8 pt? He is a toad.
PS great job on that work up.
Tim,
Nope, he didn't was a couple of years ago, he saw it during rifle but was a far shot, something like a .308win in a bolt gun would have given him a chance, oh well.....
The makers bullet Will kill that deer at subsonic velocities at 40yards no problem...assuming heart/lung shot...My vote for the 8 pointer is subs
I'll be going for shot placement just like I'm bow hunting. Need to stay away from that shoulder! Like you said...heart or double lung would be perfect.
Just found this. Hope you got the buck

@@JohnnysReloadingBench What happened to the subsonic doe kill video? It says it doesn't exist...
Ajudou bastante, obrigado
Have you tried CFEBLK powder?
What is the twist rate on this barrel?
Run the test with 1680 and the newer spring setup?
hi my friend, could you give me the name of the small riffle primers? Is it Cci N°400? than you for this perfect vidéo.
Do you like those better than the Lehigh defense ME?
The Lehigh ME's shot slightly better, I would say. I decided to go with the Makers mainly because of price. They are much cheaper.
Use the subs maker rex are great I killed one of my biggest deer with them
