    I normally give short pauses in between for my parents as they find it less strenuous to breathe in the whole contents which takes a few minutes. They find this method more relaxing and effective. Thank you for your video.

    These things have become very popular in Europe among parents of kids with upper respiratory infections. Almost everyone I know has one at home. Our pediatrician told me that using a nebulizer decreases the use of antibiotics for infections in children. They're not expensive and so easy to use. Hence I got one recently and needed a quick tutorial. So thanks!

    This brings back memories from when I was a kid. I had really bad asthma and had to rely on a nebulizer. So glad my asthma improved as I got older to the point where I don't really need puffers anymore. Just when I have colds

    Finally I learned how to use my nebulizer right. While I was hospitalized they just put it in my mouth and left the room for a few minutes, i had no idea what to do so I was taking deep breaths I have COPD so that wasn't easy. I am was prescribed one for home and I still didn't get an answer on how to use it. So for 3 years I did it wrong.

      If it's okay to ask, what were you doing that was different from the video? I'm not sure if I've fully understood from your comment
      Is it that you were trying to take deep breaths, when it would have been okay to just breathe normally?

    • @ModernDayRenaissanceMan
      @ModernDayRenaissanceMan 9 місяців тому

      Nothing wrong with breathing deep. I would argue it's better. Pneumonia & other illnesses of the lungs take root in the alveoli of the lungs (the round pockets deep inside of the lungs where the fluid builds up). The deeper you breathe the more the medicine is going to penetrate those areas & if you feel like you have to cough, that's good. You'll cough some of that "gook" up. Spit it out into a can, cup, or whatever & rinse & repeat. I always tell my patients to try to take each breath deeper than the last. 4 seconds... then 4.1 seconds... then 4.2 seconds. There is no exact science to it - it's just a mental way of telling yourself "bigger, better, more deeper breaths." Because the END GOAL is to make sure you can breathe deeply & effectively & increase your lung capacity - & HOW do we do that? By HOLDING our breath! That's EXACTLY the same way we practice for underwater diving or competitive swimming, etc. Oftentimes having knowledge in one field helps or crosses over into another. Since the dose of the medicine in the nebulizer is "fixed" - you can't get "too much" of it by taking a deeper breath. So you're essentially killing 2 birds with 1 stone. There is no "wrong" way to use a nebulizer per say... only better & more effective ways. As long as you're taking in the meds, & breathing, it's working. It's just a matter of to what degree can we improve upon that.

      Try to figure out the trigger. Allergies can swell up your airways too. Cold/Flu causes mucus buildup and inhaler will only dry it up and cause it to solidify making it harder to breathe the more you use it. nebulisers can do the same thing. At least in my experience.

      Make sure the cap is securely attached to the cup. If it's misthreaded, on crooked, it won't work.

    I have asthma, pulmonary hypertension and sleep apnea. Is there a way to attach a nebulizer medicine cup to a c-pap mask? I have too many gadgets on my nightstand and I would like to put on the c-pap mask with a medicine cup and then just remove the cup and reattach the c-pap hose before settling down to sleep for the night. It would make my life so much easier if there was a way to do that.
