I was there that day, Montjeu and El Condor looked in a different league to the rest in the paddock, both incredibly beautiful horses. They gave us a great race and ECP lost nothing in defeat. Montjeu was a magnificent racehorse and hadn't been out of a canter since June.
This was exceptional.. Two amazing horses pulling well clear of the rest.. It seems one horse's to lose, only for the other to reel him in, in perfect timing.. One the best Arc's there's been :)
Montjeu's my favorite all-time European horse. A total beast on the turf. And he's proven himself to be a fantastic sire as well. There's never any question about his offspring being able to stay 1-1/2. I really thought he'd be a back to back winner when he came back to the Arc in 2000. But Sinndar proved to be too much in 2000.
A little bit unfortunate that Montjeu didn't do well one month later in Japan Cup, in which he only finished 4th behind Special Week, Indigenious and High-Rise, though this did nothing damaging to him which won the King George the next season with an exercising canter.
Horses aged 4 or above would of carried more weight than the 3 year olds. Strictly speaking El Condor Pasa who was giving Montjeu 8lbs was the best horse in the race as he was only beaten half a length. However ECP got first run on Montjeu who was boxed in entering the home straight, so one could argue that Montjeu may of won easier had Kinane got him out to challenge when ECP went for home. Great race all the same, Montjeu was some horse on his day!!
I just finished the last episode of Uma Musume and got here..

the way that montjeu could make up ground on his opponents in effortless style was breathtaking. his king george win in 2000 was sheer class.
Bless him - what a horse he was, the best looking I ever saw. RIP maestro

Montjeu is forever the ultimate champion for me. Happy win anniversary buddy. If you ever look down from horse heaven ❤️
You're right there's no such thing as a bad Arc. El Condor Pasa was a great horse.
any horse that produced Hurricane Run has got to be something of the highest quality
El condor para was very strong.
And this horse is very popular in Japan!

montjeu was an awesome machine of a horse a true warrior
Mick Kinane earned his money there - great jockey and great finish between two very game animals...
Uma Musume Pretty Derby
The race was close, Ebina did all he can and a fantastic ride by Mick Kinane, but was a pretty hard fought win
EL-chan
He may have had his little quirks but when he had to fight to get to El Condor Pasa the great Montjeu never faltered
Only here because of that one horse anime
ep9

Good one - subbed.
What a horse to overhaul a top horse like el condor pasa.very few horses could do that.
RIP
I love Miesque Line. so closeee.
With ease?
I too think it was Montjeu's best performance but i don't think he won with "ease". Impressive though it may be.
who come here to watch El-Chan?
A perfect display of his class even with defeat ngl
yes...all same weight in group one to my understanding
El Condor Pasa lost because he went down to the best horse of his generation.......Montjeu
