Brilliant underated horse.
What a brave horse he was, he won the top 3 middle distance races of the year and gave everything to win them, a great horse and credit must be given to Saeed Bin Suroor for having him 100% ready to run to his best as he must have been quite difficult to get right I'd have thought
lammtarra has to be one of the most underestimated horses in history. just three runs in '95 and they were the biggest 3 middle distance races in europe. Just because he didnt win in spectacular style doesnt mean he wasnt a very good horse
He DID win in spectacular style, he looked beaten in all his races but he battled his heart out to win these races.
Swain also went on to greatness globetrotting all over the world

He won his Derby by unleashing what was surely the greatest 'wet sail' finish ever seen at the highest level of racing.
Underated great horse
Terrible call by O'Sullivan, Lammtarra was never headed after hitting the front.
Once he hit the front I don’t see the winner ever got headed - the commentator was calling a different race.
His breeding was impeccable,no wonder he was great.
Because he didnt win spectacually Lamtarra is largely forgotten, but he had 3 runs and 3 wins as a 3 year old, and those wins were the big 3 in middle distance races. Freedom cry came flying but Lamtarra was tough and wouldnt give in. A Top Horse, ridden by a Master Jockey 😊😊
Walter Swinburn (Rip) , should have kept the ride,, having won the Derby on Lammtarra....
Sheikh Mohammed gave him the order to ride from in front in the derby. He ignored it and win but Sheikh Mohammed dont let him ride again Lammtarra.

Love watching these old races .I backed it in derby .ditched it in arc..did it never make a stallion or was it sold to far East never gets a mention these days.

awful commentary at no stage was Lammtarra headed once it took the lead!!! Brilliant horse, Lammtarras opening race was a Listed Race!! just shows how good this horse really was from the getgo
Frankie Dettori's very first ride in the Arc was in 1988 and it has taken seven years to win this ultimate prize in Europe. He would do it again particularly these days with Golden Horn, 2015.
In between this and Golden Horn he won it in 2001 on Sakhee and in 2002 on Marienbard.

+Rem Remy In this renewal, there is a horse called Carling. Anyway, this was Frankie Dettori's first Arc victory. Bet he enjoyed it on the horse of the year, Lamtarra who emulated 1971 hero Mill Reef.
Note a future King George winner in Swain. Of course, Lamtarra won the latest version up to this point.
@@uhegbuswain won the king George twice , in his first win, he beat an outstanding field , one of the strongest ever been , just proves how good lammtara truly was
