So I see a lot of comments criticizing this video because of the lack of arguments shown in this movie (and also Emaa Thompsons role in it). I see what people mean but for me this movie isn‘t trying tp convince people that don‘t believe in climate change, but much rather showcase the feeling many of the young people and environmentalist experiencing the world, politics and most of all the fear they have. Many people feel like they are being left alone with the problem by politicians and this excrusciating feeling of powerlessness. So I believe this movie - as an artistic device (which it clearly is in my opinion) - is showcasing these things and feelings really well.
I laughed so hard. Funny how you come up with that starwars analogy. Had that idea a couple months ago myself ;) If i could like this vid a million times i would.
Where do you check your facts from, The 31,000 independent scientists, that have signed a petition refuting climate change.. Try looking at their data..
@@secretsquirrel5498Thanks for the input Secret Squirrel; however it must be noted that the Oregon Petition, which I believe you are talking about, does have more than 31,000 signers, more than 9,000 with a phd. However if you research the credentials and specifics of the petition, it seems to be that it's difficult to verify the credentials of many of the signatories as they are "listed without titles or affiliations that would permit an assessment of their credentials", and adding to that the evidence that many of the signatories are seemingly bogus: "Spurious names on the list included fictional characters from the television show M*A*S*H, the movie Star Wars, Spice Girls group member Geri Halliwell, English naturalist Charles Darwin (d. 1882) and prank names such as "I. C. Ewe" [wikipedia]
I watched this in first class flying from LA to London and totally agree with its sentiments. If only you prolls would stop flying, we could save the world.

While I sympathize greatly with the climate crisis and feel we need immediate action, this movie does nothing to really further that cause. It uses an ambivalently casual tone for humour, and, much like XR itself, seems to highlight the work of individual action (water bottle 'sin,' vegan) and a vanguardist approach rather than highlighting the importance of a mass movement and the usage of TACTICS as part of a STRATEGY, and not these tactics as the end of themselves.
I am unsure how this moves us in the direction of less likely extinction. Symbolically perhaps it shows how XR's actions prompted the gov declaration, but co2 increases none the less (scripps institute). Civil disobedience is difficult now (corona restrictions) and has no prefigurative component as does direct action (to actively reduce emissions embodied in the action). Media creativity could be more educating.........all the elements were pointed to, social inequity, monopoly of power, environmental self destruction, all encompassed in Murray Bookchin's 'social ecology'. The viral crisis is doing more to show those fundamental flaws in the system than the environmental movement has in 50 years. So leverage that which has been highlighted and marry it with the well known environmental philosophy concepts Bookchin so well observed and honestly educate the many to see why a social justice movement can create the environmental justice we seek.
The thing is they're not really anarchists though. Emma Thompson is a supporter of the Labour party, whose entire policies are based on massive government intervention and taxation.
Not even sure it's there to convince anyone really Eveline. Thompson's motivation is pure vanity. Paul from EastEnders (putting on a strange accent) and the Orgazoid (Irish crusty) were probably available and in need of a quick buck. The youngsters could be jobbing actors, but there's also the possibility that they're trying to alarm/annoy/defy Mummy and Daddy. Rites of passage really if you grew up in a five bedroom house in Chertsey. All good fun and terribly right on and trendy
Now now Todd- their air miles are worthy, noble, socially aware air miles travelling to groovy, right on places like Goa, Thailand, and Emma Thompson's luxury apartment in Hollywood

The UK Government did NOT declare a climate emergency as stated in the closing credits. It was the UK Parliament. This is a critical difference.
Yes, it's a shame that wasn't picked up before release.
"Ooooh, nice room!" - Emma 😂

"You have 5 minutes precisely, and then I want to hear a pin drop"😂
Whoever thought of this is genius,
It's brilliant. I loved it.
I was having a bit of a problem with the argumentative tone of it till almost near the end. But was it worth sticking with it! Boy, YES!

What a good movie 👏👌✨
I won't stand for these factual inaccuracies! The plural of "jedi" is "jedi", not "jedis". All the climate stuff checks out tho

I've a strong suspicion we should have been rocket scientists, or Nobel Peace Prize winners or something.

No anarchist I know would make a cop a cup of tea.
The thing is they're not really anarchists though. Emma Thompson is a supporter of the Labour party, whose entire policies are based on massive government intervention and taxation.
Emma Thompson shouldn't have any trouble playing a neurotic left wing looney. She's had decades of practice after all.
Dear god, that was bad. Who's it supposed to convince?
Not even sure it's there to convince anyone really Eveline. Thompson's motivation is pure vanity. Grandstanding, vacuous tripe.
Thumbs up. Just hope not too arty for most people to watch.

Thompson is a washed up old hag. Why on earth anyone would pay money to see her trying to act is a mystery.
