In the midst of a city-wide protest, a group of climate activists (Emma Thompson, Rakhee Thakrar, Tom Glynn-Carney, Gary Beadle & Francis Magee) meet with a senior conservative MP (Nicholas Rowe & Charlotte Hamblin) to discuss their demands. The seas are rising, the world is ending, but life continues. This is a comedy about climate change.

So according to this, Extinction Rebellion are a diverse group of inarticulates who can't get to a meeting on time or find the right room. I was expecting more. This exactly how the press view ER as a load of idiots who where odd socks (I heard that one on BBC radio 4 at the weekend).

So I see a lot of comments criticizing this video because of the lack of arguments shown in this movie (and also Emaa Thompsons role in it). I see what people mean but for me this movie isn‘t trying tp convince people that don‘t believe in climate change, but much rather showcase the feeling many of the young people and environmentalist experiencing the world, politics and most of all the fear they have. Many people feel like they are being left alone with the problem by politicians and this excrusciating feeling of powerlessness. So I believe this movie - as an artistic device (which it clearly is in my opinion) - is showcasing these things and feelings really well.

Where do you check your facts from, The 31,000 independent scientists, that have signed a petition refuting climate change.. Try looking at their data..
@@secretsquirrel5498Thanks for the input Secret Squirrel; however it must be noted that the Oregon Petition, which I believe you are talking about, does have more than 31,000 signers, more than 9,000 with a phd. However if you research the credentials and specifics of the petition, it seems to be that it's difficult to verify the credentials of many of the signatories as they are "listed without titles or affiliations that would permit an assessment of their credentials", and adding to that the evidence that many of the signatories are seemingly bogus: "Spurious names on the list included fictional characters from the television show M*A*S*H, the movie Star Wars, Spice Girls group member Geri Halliwell, English naturalist Charles Darwin (d. 1882) and prank names such as "I. C. Ewe" [wikipedia]

What a load of crap. Looking at comments, I get the feeling that mine will be deleted, but I'm still going to have my say. This idea of a climate emergency and extinction is completely wrong. You people live in a fantasy world of your own making. There have been many many such movements in the past, of people convinced that the end of the world was upon them, but every one without exception was wrong, and nothing happened. History will ridicule you for how misguided you were.
Replevideo I see you‘re a man of science. Only problem I see, is that science is CLEARLY speaking against your arguments. And I‘d like to add, that we as the guests on this earth shouldn‘t be destroying it until we REALLY and FOR SURE will all have to die. We should look after each other, after the other creatures living on this world and we should care for our nature even if it costs us money. We can allow ourselves to be precautious and to do something even if the world seems perfectly fine from OUR point of view. So please open your eyes and care about this world. An economy teacher of mine once said: Don‘t forget, that the economy is built for the human, not the human for the economy. We don‘t live to keep the economy at it‘s best, but we live to raise children or enjoy life in other ways and we should use the economy as an instrument for it. That also includes taking some steps back economically to ensure that we CAN raise children and enjoy life. I hope you see what I mean and I hope you care.
@@caroltra . First we need to separate two topics which are not the same, climate change and the environment. Of course I agree with you about preserving the environment, but we are not seriously doing that. It receives very little funding compared to the trillions poured into climate change. No one is tackling the Chinese and oriental threat to species caused by their beliefs that animal parts have curative properties. These medicines were once the preserve of the rich, but now everyone is wealthy enough to afford them, and demand has rocketed. Furthermore huge environmental damage is being done in the name of climate change. Wind, solar, biomass, and biofuels all do far more damage to habitats and the environment in general than do fossil fuels for the same amount of energy produced . Can I suggest you watch this movie which is free on UA-cam, to get some insight into the destruction going on. I don't necessarily agree with everything in it, and I don't expect you to either. Imagine if we'd had movements with people looking at the science of pandemics and claiming for the last 50 years that one was due, that the increase of international flights was increasing the risk of disaster with a virus being able to be spread around the world in a matter of several hours, if not days. They'd have all been "wrong" for the previous 49 years but proved correct this year. The science of climate change shows the dangerous changes to the planet already occurring and accelerating with the increasing risk of our continuing to emit huge amounts of carbon dioxide, and our extractive, wasteful, polluting economies and industries destroying forests, ancient woodlands, and the habits of some of the most diverse places on the planet. We can isolate ourselves from the virus and still manage (just) to feed ourselves. We cannot isolate ourselves from the damage done to the environment when crops can no longer be grown sufficiently to feed us all, and when ecosystems we pretend to be above and outside of, can no longer support our existence on this planet in such numbers due to our massive over consumption of resources.

Are you aware that the demand for biodiesel is driving the extinction of orangutans? Are you aware of the massive deforestation going on to make biomass, and to clear land for wind turbines? You talk of over consumption of resources while applauding the increased use of resources to replace fossil fuels. Why do the greens eschew nuclear power, the only real means for carbon free electricity generation, and incidentally the safest way to generate electricity? Why do you champion these industries owned by the rich capitalists you claim to despise, and fall for their propaganda about clean energy. Oh, you didn't know the Koch brothers and Rockefellers and their like were involved, and lobbying governments to spend more of your tax dollars on their new industrial plants despoiling the landscape?
