    Our Mission
    Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
    Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
    The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
    Informing, Educating and Inspiring
    The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
    Martin Tyner
    Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
    At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
    “One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
    Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
    He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

    I live in Springville in Utah county. A nearby neighbor was trying to find the owner of a bird in her yard. It looked like it had a broken wing. Turns out from comments from another friend that it's a Western Tanager. I suggested she contact animal control or the police, and they would know who to call. I don't know what ended up happening, but I know she had a hard time finding someone to rescue the bird. In the future, who should I suggest someone call?

    Common starlings introduced to areas such as Australia or North America, where other members of the genus are absent, may affect native species through competition for nest holes. In North America, chickadees, nuthatches, woodpeckers, purple martins and other swallows may be affected.[99][115] In Australia, competitors for nesting sites include the crimson and eastern rosellas.[116] For its role in the decline of local native species and the damages to agriculture, the common starling has been included in the IUCN List of the world's 100 worst invasive species.

I would love hints of what you are feeding yours and when they start getting those pellet type things. I have some powder hand rearing formula from the pet food store but not sure of the best way to give it to him. Is the narrow end of a spoon okay? Thank you for any hints with regard to timing of types of food and when he should start to go into a cage in the backyard. Thank you so much!

      Hi, I’m raising blackbirds at the moment. I gave them soaked dog food and now they’re all on the mealworms and crickets and nearly flying. I was wondering what brand of food you give your blackbirds- though I am in the UK
      It’s a massive commitment. I’ve raised five starlings in the past and a sweet little sparrow that was the only survivor out of her nest, sadly her wing was damaged and was never going to fly. Jackie (Sparrow) is now two years old and is presently laying some eggs ( obviously unfertilised) she laid three eggs this time last year.
      Our veterinarian has now asked if I’m willing to foster sixteen orphaned bats!
      Thanks for all that you do to save our worldwide wildlife, little critters matter too
      Kindest regards
      Tina-Marina Cole ( UK)

    I have raised two great tit nestlings into fledglings. The nest was too high so I couldn't put them in and they were falling way too early from there. Eyes closed, not many feathers. All their 6 siblings fell and died in the next few days, I don’t know if they died from the fall or starved to death. I tried to get the parent's attention with the chicks I saved but they didn't understand to check anywhere else than the original nest. I didn't think the chicks would make it, especially because I thought the other had aspirated some food, but now they're thriving (partly thanks to my aggressive googling lol. There aren't any bird rehabilitation centers nearby.)
    Now I'm wondering how and where I should release them back into the wild. I also wonder if the parents are still around if I release them where I found them. I'm worried though because if I release them;
    1. Too close to the cottage where the nest was, there is a chance they will jump on the lawn and get mowed over by my grandparents who own the cottage.
    2. Further away in the little forest. There is a possibility of snakes. If I keep feeding them a little longer it's probably harder to locate them.
    3. A little garden area. Not enough bushes/trees to jump onto. Smaller risk of getting mowed over though or getting caught by a predator.
    They've been in a cage made out of sticks, it's easy to climb. Maybe I should bring that with them to the area and place it above the ground....when I eventually choose the area. I've been letting them walk on the grass and hop on some branches supervised. They're still too small for getting food themselves though, they're still going (:V) (:V)
    Anyway, a great informative video. These fellas are really cute.

    If there is a higher power which I do believe you're absolutely in God's graces. I've never rehabilitated an injured or baby bird I unfortunately found a very little guy about the same size as these guys so it's not a pinky it's got some down however unfortunately the blue jays knocked the little black bird out of its nest and injured the chickling I'm praying that it gets feisty and fights it's definitely in shock has two swollen eyes and some blood in his nose he's coming around but I really don't want to keep him in pain and I don't know who to call but I am going to ask God to take the baby or heal him on Swift wings maybe the swelling will go down and he will want food but for right now he is breathing slowly but calm Peaks at me through one of his eyes so I'm hoping it's like humans when they break their nose both of their eyes get swollen shut I will fight with him it's just painful to see this little guy in pain but I think he's much more out of shock than he was laying in the gravel he's got a critter light Cedar and a clean t-shirt with a secure topless storage bin

    • @GowildlifeOrg
      @GowildlifeOrg  6 років тому +3

    • @gmaureen
      @gmaureen 6 років тому +2

      I wouldn't worry too much about the cats. I feed a couple of ferals and my problem is keeping the blackbirds out of the cat food, they come in groups and eat everything/anything I put out for the cats. Blackbirds are smart. They're also obnoxious and a great pain in the rear. Still, sometimes they're fun to watch.

    • @ShyClam
      @ShyClam 6 років тому +4

      Nah, cats are invasives species. Like other invasives species, they can be dangerous to indigenous species. Many birds populations have decreased drastically (some even are extinct in some regions) due to predation by cats. Cats population need to be controled by sterelisation and sensibilisation of the people (many people still abandon their domestic animals).

    • @gmaureen
      @gmaureen 6 років тому +7

      All true. Cats are a problem, but blame it on humans... the most invasive species of all.

    • @ShyClam
      @ShyClam 6 років тому +1

      Of course humans are responsible for everything but we have to find means to protect all species. Still, no one really answered my question about how to protect baby birds who don't have parents to look after them. I cared for one baby bird once and when we were not outside to look after him, we kept him in a cage until he could fly properly, because there are many cats in my city.

      Couldn’t be more different, starlings have a sharp prominent Bill and an iridescent Green speckled coat and is slender and gather in groups, the blackbird Male has a Jet Black appearance is is rather more filled out, the female is slightly smaller and has dull brown feathers.
      The song is a big giveaway, possibly the most varied, beautiful and mellow different from every bird although recognisably similar, they often include whistles, cackles and imitations of everyday sound like sirens, alarms or telephones. They mate for life so rarely gather in flocks once mature.
      They have bright yellow beaks which makes some mistake them for starlings.

    Hello! I Have found a baby blackbird (with no feathers) fallen from the nest, fed her for two and a half weeks (in the house). In the last 3 days she escaped a few times in the walnut in front of the house. I must say there are sooo many cats around here. So i called her and she recognized my voice and came to me. This hapened 4 times. I was hoping she would get on with her life but it seems she only sits in the tree. I think she is afraid to go on the ground, and i'm worried that if i let her be, she will go on the ground to find food and she will not be able to fly back up. And i'm also worried that she will get used with us too much if i keep her inside. Every time i call her she answers with a scream.... Is it too late for her to go wild? How can i fix this?
