    Thanks for the video! I just did this install on my LBZ for reassurance. I lucked out and did a good job tightening the connections behind the intercooler without leaks, I reassembled everything before checking. I did, however, have leaks on the other 4 connections but tightened them down until no leaks. Worth mentioning, the rubber o-ring side of the connectors just needs to be snugged down. The rubber seals it. I wish the longest hose was a bit longer so it wouldn't be draped across the front of the cooler.

    @ralfie8801 3 роки тому +10

    Those 90 degree fittings aren’t meant to be tightened like that, it’s supposed to just be snug and pointed the direction it needs to be. Then you tighten that jamb but down to lock it in place and seal it. Those aren’t pipe threads on those fittings, the threads don’t seal the fluid in, the o ring does. Those threads are straight cut like bolt threads, that’s why they can’t seal and need the o ring. Pipe threads are tapered and just need some sealer on them before you tighten the fitting.

      It’s hard to give tips when there are a couple different types of hose lengths and fittings used depending on truck year models.
      The OEM hoses would be a pain to remove if you couldn’t cut the rubber portion and pull them out from two directions. There is a clamp securing the metal lines to the engine about mid way on the block. Remove the clamp bolt with a 10 mm socket on a 1/4” drive ratchet. Try not to break that clamp, i reused it to secure the new hoses with a large zip tie. Once you get the bolt out you can pull and rotate both metal lines to the rear and they’ll eventually come out. Now unlock the top of the clamp to remove the metal lines, snap the clamp back together and bolt it and the wiring clamp that same bolt holds up back to the engine.
      Use backup wrenches on the radiator and the cooler in the grille to prevent damaging them when changing the fittings. The radiator fittings on mine have a large sheet metal nut holding the cooler tube inside the plastic radiator tank. I used a 1 1/4” box wrench on that and a socket on the fitting to remove it. Try to put ALL of the breaking force on the two wrenches so as to not break the adhesion of the cooler to the tank and cause a coolant leak. Do those fittings one at a time so the cooler doesn’t come loose and fall off inside the tank. You’ll need a radiator if that happens.
      As in my comment above, put the new JIC fittings in the tank by hand until snug, then use a wrench to turn the fitting into alignment (less than 1 complete turn) and while holding the fitting in alignment, tighten the jamb nut down to lock the fitting in place and seal it. Repeat for the other radiator fitting and the two for the other cooler in the grille. I used a 12” adjustable wrench to hold the fittings in place while tightening the jamb nuts.
      The instructions for my LBZ are fairly straight forward except for a couple of things dealing with last hose they have you put on. It’s the lower hose from the transmission to the lower fitting on the radiator. It has a 45 degree fitting on one end and straight fitting on the other end. The instructions don’t tell you where that 45 degree end goes. It makes more sense that it would go on the transmission fitting, but the straight end is all but impossible (for me) to get started on the lower radiator fitting given the limited space the hose passes through.
      So I ended up putt the end of the hose on the radiator end and the straight end on the transmission. But that has a small clearance issue with the oil pan rail on the engine because of the way I routed my hoses to the front. I’m thinking about getting a fitting like the 6502-10-10-45 from hydraulics direct and put it on the lower fitting on the transmission to alleviate this clearance issue and give a little more slack to the lower hose.

I went to NAPA and had them make a 6 foot 1/2 ID hose 5000 psi with two 3/4 -14 90 degree fittings and it has been great 3 days no leaks or anything. The factory lines I could not get in they were impossible without dropping the front differential . Good job on the video . Its a pretty easy job if you want to dyi .

    FYI for others. The bracket holding the two metal tranny lines going from tranny to radiator and cooler can be opened from the top standing next to the pass fender with a long large 24” screwdriver. The bracket has a hinge and can be pried open. I originally went under and unbolted the bracket. Not needed and didn’t work. In my case the nut 10mm was finger tight so it was good to check it. I won’t use it now. I’ll be using flex lines like these. Routing that pre formed tubing is a PITA. and the jinky clip attachments suck imo.

    You can set those fittings at any angle. The jam nut is what tightens them and seals them.

    • @andersonconsulting9097
      @andersonconsulting9097 4 роки тому +1

      Yes, do a quick search on ORB fittings and read how they work. Their purpose is to allow proper orientation of the fitting to accept a rigid hose (Hydraulic, etc). You tighten the fitting to the bottom, then back it off to where you want ti fitting to be aimed, BUT DO NOT BACK OUT MORE THAN ONE REVOLUTION. Once the fitting is pointed in the direction you want it, hold it in position with a wrench while you tighten the jam nut with another wrench. Salty is correct in that the ORB fitting uses the O-Ring as the seal.

    I did this to my last truck and I bought the 1/2" kit and I could tell the inside of the fittings were not a smooth flow design and also not full 1/2" flow path actually much less in places. Which kit did you install and did you notice this? Stock design would have similar restrictions at very ends, I wonder if 5/8" line kit restricts to less than 1/2" anyway just like 1/2" kit.

    To everyone that has fought with the Chevy quick connects... ha ha, save some time and spin them off with a wrench. You can fk with those mothers all day long, and it only takes a minute to unbolt them, and if you're going to be reusing them, it's a lot easier replacing the retaining clip with them out.

    It’s easier and cheaper to just buy the fittings and build your own kit. I think I had maybe $50 into mine instead of 150 or 165 whatever this dude paid for his. I used AN style fittings and steel braided line. All 1/2 I.D. I even bought black AN fittings lol it looked bad ass and I was able to do it all my self. The over priced kits you can buy from places like Deviant will still leak and then your shit out of luck. Got 20 ft of black braided hose lol and extra AN fittings I could almost build another kit. So look it up people don’t just do some fan boy bullshit. Same with pcv reroute do not pay $80+ for that dumb ass kit when you can make it at the local hardware store. Hell my local ace even had catch cans.
