HT is British for the B+ supply. He was asking if you could use the regenerator to feed an unregulated B+ instead of building in a high voltage regulator circuit.

HT stands for High Tension. In other words its the high voltage supply for the tubes. And yes, it wouldn't take the place of a power supply.

The 220V I have here is pretty good. Only shared with between 3 houses from the power box. And the shortest line from the box and into the houses is the one I have :P

On theory a regenerator, due to the low output impedence and stabilized voltage, is most useful with very simple amplifiers that have a low power supply rejection ratio such as tube amplifiers equipped with a simple rectifier followed with a smoothing capacitor. You could also tweak the high voltage supply by tuning the voltage on the regenerator controls. By the way, the exact same thing can be done with a cheap industrial motor control inverter, if you find a way to put it in a place where the fan noise and ugly look are not a issue.

Hi Paul; Will Powerplant 3 get rid of EMI noise (differential and common)? I see on UA-cam where people hook-up EMI meter to the back of power conditioner and the meter still reads very high EMI noise level.

That might have to do with the whole grid. At some times a day the use spikes and that can affect the whole grid for a short period. Or you share a bad generator :P

do companies that are in the market of audio/radio amplifiers use power regenerators when they conduct the tests for "Total Harmonic Distortion" + noise?
because any company selling amps would benefit from publicizing a way better THD + noise report than the competition..

In my opinion, everything benefits from nice, clean, power with a smooth sinewave and _no electrical noise from switches, thermostats, routers etc. that pollute the mains supply_
This is the simplest way for anyone to understand the importance of clean power.
Perhaps the effects (of a regenerator) won't be as obvious on a tube amp. as (usually) the distortion levels in tubes are much higher than well designed SS amps.
I guess the best course of action is to borrow one and listen. I suspect, low power 'single ended'Triode designs _may_ benefit more than large Push_Pull amps.

How long is a Regenerator expected to last and do they eventually require maintenance?

The only parts of a regenerator that will need replacement are the electrolytic caps ... make sure you get exactly the right types !! Some are special ones

      L. Scott Music ~ they might do that .. but their power regenerators are fairly new on the scene therefore replacing caps isn't considered a necessity as yet .... besides accessing these caps within the chassis isn't all that easy either

I have one of Paul’s VERY first regenerators, a P-300 that I purchased personally from Paul at the Stereophile audio show in Chicago in 1999. Two years ago I DID have to replace the six electrolytic capacitors because of drying out and / or swelling of the cap cases. Fortunately none had leaked. They were replaced with easy to find Nichicons of the same value. I also fitted an internal fan to control the heat in an effort to prolong component life. Caps don’t like heat. Today I still use the P300 to power a vintage McIntosh C2200 tube preamp, Cambridge Audio CD transport and Project DAC, which it does so with ease. Does this regenerator improve the sound quality in my system? A resounding YES, it does indeed! It’s why I’ve kept it as my system evolved all these years. Along the way PS Audio did a minor repair of the power switch and adjacent board, they also fitted the MultiWave circuit, gratis from Paul. Cheers!

Qorax LOL, cable lifters...I forgot. I’ll sell some US$1500 per piece super low resonant ceramic cable lifters that will dramatically lower the cable to carpet interference and let the electrons move more freely giving the sound more transparency and openness. You need one per 2 feet of cabling for all your speaker cables, interconnects and of course power cables too. Due to the weight of power cables the cable lifter type is slightly more expensive at US$2000 each. We are working on a new type optimized for optical cables considering photons different properties.

@@ThinkingBetter I just turn my amplifier upside down so that all the bad electrons fall out! 😜

    • @ThinkingBetter
      @ThinkingBetter 4 роки тому

@@QoraxAudio Yes, bad electrons can completely ruin the soundstage as they jump around randomly. Don't forget that most importantly is to use an audiophile fuse in your amp. Standard fuses yield bad electrons, you know. Just buy a bunch of Synergistic Research Orange Quantum Fuses for your various devices. It's also good to have some spare ones, just in case. www.vhaudio.com/fuses.html

Don’t waste your money on a regenerator. A well designed amplifier power supply will take care of any mains issues. Put your money in the system components where it can make a real difference.

Such assumptions that if you turn on the TV or AC in your house, you impact the power/sign wave of your neighbor is completely wrong as such stations have a tremendous amount of headroom in power reserve.
However, such a relatively inferior regenerator that uses transistors to regenerate the sign wave has many series issues as it does not have enough headroom to sustain proper sign wave and the angle between voltage and current at all power consumption mode.
So, if the power in a certain region is so bad, using a regenerator/UPS can be a solution, with its compromises. But when the AC is up to standards, going for a regenerator is a backward step. One more thing, I wonder why a regenerator from PS Audio is sold for more than 10k USD? Recording studios for example use different solutions from companies that specialize in power solutions that are much better and at a fraction of the price. Oh, I know why, this is meant for the irrational audiophiles consumers who buy assuming their systems will sound better :)
