    It is the quality of the D/C within your Hi-Fi units that matters, and that is the function of a good power supply within those units, which is there to iron out any wall outlet irregularities.
    In addition, the large smoothing capacitors act as a stable reservoir to supply a low impedance D/C supply, which protects against voltage droop when loud audio transients take place.
    A power regenerator produces an excellent result in terms of a good 60hz sine wave output from a bad A/C wall outlet, and by the same token, your amplifier can produce an excellent result from the same bad A/C wall outlet.

      Well, it is not that easy at all. AC to our homes come with lots of noises, distortions and also residual DC current (more and more these days). Residual DC can cause occasional "buzzing" in the system because toroidal power transformers have very low DC resistance at their inputs and any DC input present will cause very high currents to occur. I recommend reading article "Dirty AC Power: Getting It Out of Your (Audio/Video) System" by Roger Sheker for better understanding. Or maybe Paul will explain in some future video what Power Plant actually do and how just transformers and capacitors cannot get rid of all the "dirt" in AC line.

    Designers os quality audio equipment are well aware of shortcomings in mains supplies and design power supplies to handle any issues. If your system sounds better with a Power Plant then you have either very dirty mains or poorly designed/faulty equipment.

    Audio Science Review measured THD+N and a few other tests on various amplifiers with and without the PS Audio regenerator and found no difference with and without it , Amir then fed the amplifiers a really distorted and noisy sinewave and once again the THD+N and his other measurements did not change. I was not surprised by this as the input to the power transformer on a Carver "magnetic field coil " amplifier is a chopped and nasty looking partial sine wave out of a triac that keeps his voltage rails constant regardless of load which tells me the input line sine wave does not make any measurable or audible difference on a good amplifier.

      Amir measured the noise and totally misunderstood the reasons why the Power Plant is valuable. It's the tight voltage regulation under dynamic conditions that makes it valuable for what it does. Had he known that and measured that, it would have been a different story. Seems sometimes like Amir is more interested in poking fun at stuff than understanding its purpose, but then that's ok.

      @@octaverecordsanddsdstudios1285 -- Don't PS Audio products include adequately "tight voltage regulation" for all the DC rails supplying their audio circuitry? If they do, why would regulating the incoming AC mains voltage be advantageous?

    • @octaverecordsanddsdstudios1285
      @octaverecordsanddsdstudios1285 Рік тому +1

      @@editorjuno Our low level products do, of course. Not power amps. Power amps are almost never regulated (their output stages). Moreover, one of the benefits of tight regulation of the voltage is the lowering of impedance - essentially shortening the length of wire connecting your system to the mains. Impedance is reduced by a factor of about 100.

    • @editorjuno
      @editorjuno Рік тому +6

      @@octaverecordsanddsdstudios1285 -- Pardon me, but that sounds absurd. That "length of wire connecting your system to the mains" -- the AC cord-- is only the last meter or so of a circuit likely to include anywhere from 10-100 times that length stretching from the outlet to the service panel over ordinary 12 or 14 AWG Romex or some such -- not to mention the additional cabling out to the nearest pole-mounted step-down transformer. If rigorously regulated DC to an amplifier's output stage is all that beneficial to SQ, why not build the necessary regulation into the amp itself? If I were the customer, I'd resent shelling out $65k for a pair of your wondrous and already ponderous BHK mono power amps only to be told I need another device with a hefty 4-figure price tag in order to overcome a missing, aurally significant power supply capability.

      @@editorjuno Well, understood, Bruce but welcome to the world of high-performance audio.
      Couple of points to consider. Regulating the output stage of a big power amp would likely double the price of the power amp. It isn't as easy as it sounds. Secondly, the only way to lower impedance as I mentioned is by active means and that is, unfortunately, just expensive.

      One would think there shouldn't be, but the sound quality isn't the same, the larger models allow for a bigger, more dynamic sound (as if someone took their foot off the garden hose). It's probably got more to do with the regulation (a stable low-impedance source) than the "cleanliness" (the lower distortion) of the AC. I'm not even sure the distortion is all that important apart from the flat-topping, since a well-designed power supply in the components connected to such a device is going to convert it to DC anyways. The larger models may seem like overkill, but listening to the difference, that in itself appears to be the point of the matter. Because on the face of it, using a regenerator doesn't seem to make much sense. Try to get a demo: maybe you're lucky and it doesn't make a difference sonically, and you'll save money. I've heard systems in which the difference was small, and ones where it was such that it seemed to make the price of the regenerator reasonable to non-audiophiles. I personally wouldn't buy one blind without demo.

    I am bored with my life.
    I have thousands of dollars to spend to help solve my boredom issue, at least temporarily. 🤔
    What should I buy to make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. 🤔

      @David from America:
      You can't afford it, and you are envious of those that can. And so you illicit admiration from like-minded viewers, under the guise of invoking BS reasons that the product serves.
      I do not own an electrical re-generator. I wish I did.
      But I do not trash excellence in engineering, because the product is out of my financial reach. In fact, I praise the brilliant people for their accomplishments, and I am happy for the people that can enjoy the product.
      Bashing quality products will not turn your envy and your misery into joy. Perhaps for a moment when some other envy-troll joins your crying session. But then it is right back to real life where your envy controls your life.

      @@NoEgg4u A re-generator is totally unnecessary for stereo systems, just like the outrageously priced silver speaker wires and the outrageously priced interconnects etc. In case you don't know, Paul is a businessman and a salesman. He is trying to make lots of money for his business by selling his overpriced and unnecessary equipment. Dinna fall for it.

      It's basically acting as a UPS without battery backup, it's taking mains voltage charging up bunch of capacitors (that are low capacity batteries), and then converting it back into mains voltage but regulated so regardless the input voltage & sinewave it'll always be perfect on the output. So, basically giant UPS without battery backup feature. Nowadays, anyone can get cheap UPS that will clean up a noisy sinewave,be battery backed up, and also display all the ins and outs of everything without looking at the unit.

    Audio products with poorly designed power supply circuits operating in poor power environments need a power regenerator.
