I take a comp book with me to class and immediately after class and rolling I write about the techniques and try to include what details I can recall and if possible, I try to illustrate with stick figures. I also try to record any epiphanies or realizations and also record my training partners’ tendencies and strengths and weaknesses. It has helped.
After I roll with higher belts, I ask what did I do that gave you the most trouble and what can I do better. If I roll with a lower belt I don’t offer criticism but I’ll give them praise for something they have done ( not everyone takes unsolicited feedback well, but everyone likes to hear what went well)
Have you ever attempted debriefing before?
Try making a reenactment of your roll with your partner, having just rolled.
