- In 2001 Bad Cat innovation led to the design of the Hot Cat 30, the worlds first Class A, high gain amplifier. Less than a year later the amp received the Guitar Player Magazine Editor's Pick Award. In 2004, Guitar Player Magazine recognized the amp as one of the ten best combo amps ever made. The honor was presented at the Summer NAMM Nashville show.
Now the engineers at Bad Cat are bringing the Hot Cat 30R into our USA Player Series. Not content with just transferring the hand-wired legacy design over to a PCB format. Out engineering team set out to redefine the amp design and make sonic improvement as well as increase the versatility of the clean channel.
The Hot Cat 30R is a two channel amp with two EL34’s being driven in Class A cathode bias to produce 30 watts of power.
Channel one is a simple Volume, Bass, Treble, Reverb, and K Master. The cleans on this amp are clear and sparkling and ring out with a clarity that comes from our custom hand-wound transformers. Channel one will go from crystal clear sparkle to rich complex overdrive and all stops in between. The patented K Master circuit provide extraordinary clean headroom and rich high gain saturation at whisper volumes.
Channel two has a simple layout of Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, Reverb, and K-Master. A global presence knob that cuts across both channels to smooth out any high transients. The gain is soaked in rich harmonics with astounding string-to-string note definition even in high gain settings. There is a reason this amplifier is the choice of countless touring professional.

There are so many great amps being built now it's mindboggling
Nice sounding amp. I like that it has 2 separate EQs for the 2 channels, and I really liked the overdrive on channel one.
Are the tone controls rolled back on the guitar ? This sounds terrible !!!!!!
you mean muddy?
Look at the PRESENCE knob while he’s playing. It’s set to about 9 o clock. I have the Legacy version of this amp and can tell you that’s the issue. Also, the bass knob in the clean channel can make it muddy if set too high as it also rolls off some mids.
@@bobbypm9871 Yup, the treble also needs to go up, would probably sound pretty good then.
Id bring that presence up
4, 8, 16 ohms...what difference does this make?
How much clean headroom does the Hot Cat have? I mean, can I gig with it clean if I’d like? If I keep the volume down on the green channel and turn up the K-master would it be loud enough for a live situation?
You never really demonstrated how and what the K master knobs do.
However I am happy that I could hear amp noiseat idle (not feeding it a signal) when you up'd the gain and drive on channel 2.
I have the Hot Cat 15 and it has a lot of chime, unlike the way the amp in the video sounds.
Great playing, but it sounds like you have a wet blanket over cab. My hotcat sounds nothing like this
Sounds so dark... Great playing though..! 👍
I guess you can say Jim is a... Chicken Picker
I'm not very familiar with Bad Cat amps but i know i don't like this at all. It's the opposite of an "open sounding" amp. The tone is very colored imo. And the reverb must be a recording issue, otherwise this amp should not have left the bench. I'm curious of other opinions.
Earl00001 It sounds awful to me, like the amp isn’t biased properly and the reverb is harsh and tinny...very dark and muffled. I usually enjoy the demos on this channel, but this one is really bad...I can sense that the player is struggling with it too.
@@sixbladeknife44 I agree 100%
YOU DID THIS AMP NO FAVORS WITH THIS REVIEW !! THIS IS A KILLER AMP THAT SOUNDS WAY BETTER THAN WHAT YOU PRODUCED!!
IF THIS IS HOW YOU DEMO AMPS... STOP!!
like a sheep is in front of the cab
There is definitly a problem with the sound, this video should be removed in my opinion.
Yikes!
I can get better sounds from a pedal
amp sounded like shit what were they thinking??
reverb sounds terrible
The tone is rolled off on this amp. It's no wonder it sounds muddy while he's playing it. This demo is a horrible example of what this amp sounds like. In fact, it sounds nothing like this amp at all.
sounds dull...BAD example!!
Muddy! Doesn't sound right!
Great playing. Odd sound. No sparkle, no chime. Reverb is abysmal. No sale for $1700
This amp is so much brighter and more lively than this demo. For some reason, the player dialed everything in extremely dark.
