@@HA-gx2dg Yep. A lot of times the moms on this show are just being pushy about their daughters wearing their dresses when they say no. And then, they regret when their daughters pick the new dress they actually like.

I haven’t finished the video, but I feel for the mom because she does cherish the dress so much. I wouldn’t risk totally obliterating my beloved wedding gown for the purpose of my daughter POSSIBLY wearing it for her wedding.
If she would have just stopped after removing the part around the neck and restoring the color on the old dress, it would have been beautiful and flattering. Instead, she completely ruined it.
Well, it's a good thing then this show offers a pick between old and new. The old dress would have only been ruined if the daughter wouldn't even consider wearing it to her wedding after the alterations. Just because it's not your taste doesn't mean it's "ruined". She wouldn't have worn it to her wedding the way it was. The way it is now she does consider it and it's now a fair competition with the new dress of her own choosing.

Why did she put that cheap satin finish?? Nooo I loved the back draping of the dress. They need a new “designer,” they make the new dresses worse than the old.

That's why they are on this show to begin with? This show offers a compromise by altering mum's dress to something the bride would wear and a choice between that and a new dress. I think agreeing on this compromise is not selfish and pretty much selfless. Because you agree to be on a show of which you already know they'll be cutting your old dress apart. Selfish would have been if she wouldn't have been okay with cutting in her dress and forcing her daughter to wear the dress as it was before. They are on this show because they love their daughters and are open to a compromise. And love means that both parties are open to compromise and meet each other in the middle. This show is the part where they meet in the middle.

Exactly! Like all clothing, wedding dress styles change. Unless there's no other choice, no one wants to wear an old, dated-looking dress. But I did think this dress was beautiful in that brief moment that we saw it without the (pretty awful-looking 80s style) neckline. But I absolutely hate the fabric she added in front. Ruined it.
Kary J. My mom got married in 1980 and was a size 0, i couldn’t even fit my leg into it, I was so glad!!! 😂😂😂 My skinniest friends couldn’t even get into it. It was one time I was thankful that I was plus size and big boned! 🎉🎉🎉🙈
Billy Jeans The mothers know going in that their dresses are going to be re-designed. It’s the premise of the show. I have watched about 12 episodes and I have yet to see a bride choose their mother’s dress.
They give their consent when they sign up for this show. 🤷♀️ Mum would love to see daughter in her dress, daughter doesn't like the dress, this show offers a compromise. And you know what you sign up for. This show offers a compromise by altering mum's dress to something the bride would like to wear, but also give the bride an option of wearing something new of her own choosing.
The 80's one for SUREE. That's not even a question. It has a backstory, saves money and looks better in my opinion. If it was just cleaned and fitted it would be great. I would KILL for that dress :( they don't even have to fix it. In my opinion.
I agree! I thought the old dress was really pretty. The only thing about it i didnt like was the sort of V of material that fell off the back. I like the neck and the cap sleeves but the neck might have been itchy or so. At most I would have cut off the lace and then neck to open it up a bit but just left the general shape. They really ruined a beautiful dress :/
@@tess2082 If I were the bride, I honestly would have not invited mom if she kept pressing me about wearing that 80s monstrosity at my wedding. "But it's just a dress" ? Sure, but it also shows you can't respect that I'm a grown woman with different taste than you. What else would you try to control in my marriage ?
Michele Nakamura My mother does not, but I do. My mom got married in 1987 and had a beautiful silk dress that I find timeless and perfect for my taste and style. When I told my mom I want to use her dress when time comes (I am not even close getting married yet), she was like No, you can buy something new and beautiful. But I still stand by my decision and I will proudly wear it.
If you look into the history of the white, one-time use wedding dress that women use today you may better understand; it's a relatively new tradition generally created and reinforced by the "wedding industry". 100+ years ago only the very wealthy could afford a white (hard to keep clean) wear only once dress. The was no 'middle class' like today and they just wore their best dress or borrowed a dress. Many wedding traditions today are relatively new.
Sophie - Trafotoz She just wants me to know that I have choice and no pressure or demands from her part about my choice (unlike some mother that expect their daughters to listen to their wishes about dress). I will 100% wear that dress the day I get married because I love the style and how it fits me and it is the one if I can be cliche.
Hello, that's exactly why this show offers a choice? Mother would like daughter to wear her dress, daughter doesn't want that, and this show first of all offers a compromise by altering mum's dress to something the bride might actually wear, and second of all gives her a choice between something old or something new, and obviously the something new is something they picked themselves. The mums on this show understand that their daughter might not pick their dress even after the compromising alterations. This is the concept of the show. This is what they agree on to be part of the show.
The original dress was beautiful and it looked much much better on the girl. I don't think they should have ruined the mothers dress plus the mom looked like it broke her heart to have it cut. The end result didn't even resemble the mothers wedding dress. I think it is a shame that they altered it.
She should have said no very firmly to hte old dress in the beginning, it would have been the kindest thing to do. Just laundered it and maybe taken a photo in it for comparison.
They took away all the best elements of the old dress - if it had been properly fitted to her body it would've looked beautiful without any more modification. The new new dress is a boring, cookie cutter bridal style.
Why did they get rid of the beautiful neckline?! Once she removed that lace on the neck it was so beautiful on her. The new dress is very unflattering.
What kind of designer are you? I'm not one to go off on people, but these people TRUST you to make something look better and half the time you butcher it. You... really need to go back and study your craft. Something is very... very wrong here.
That awkward moment of silence when she came out with the altered borrowed dress. Only the guy host said it was beautiful. The rest of them were just stunned into silence, and i didnt think they were stunned by the beauty of the dress, more like "what have you done?!! This is totally different and not a good kind of different" The bride then awkwardly adjusted the neckline of the dress, trying to hide the discomfort at how ugly the dress turned out to be, and laughed trying to fill that awkward silence. The mom's face is horrified. Horrified.
If the mother wasn't so selfish and insistent on her daughter wearing her dress she would still have her wedding dress. Even when her daughter came out wearing her dress all she she said was that she saw herself in it. You could tell that cutting up the dress was tramatic for her since she was crying. She's lucky she got the wedding dress that she wanted. She should've let her daughter have the same luxury of getting the dress she wanted.
I actually really like the old one as a whole with all the craftsmanship, the mom had good taste, it feels very georgian-era dress like pride and prejudice /bridgerton, a style that some modern brides choosed to wear. The bride could've just clean it and have a theme photoshoot in her moms dress.

Agreed
Because it was traditional back in the day that you pass your wedding dress onto your daughter.
Kary J. Some are very classic looking. My mother’s is gorgeous. Ideally i want to wear my grandmother’s from the 40’s.
The original was flowy, beautiful cute, fancy, vintage, and it looked more expensive in a good way
the way they remade it was SUPER unflattering and honestly ruined the original dress
Now it looks like she bought it of eBay
why would she just cut it without the mums consent but like mums should never pressure their daughters/sons to get the dress that the mums want
Billy Jeans The mothers know going in that their dresses are going to be re-designed. It’s the premise of the show. I have watched about 12 episodes and I have yet to see a bride choose their mother’s dress.
Consent was given when she agreed to be on this show
They give their consent when they sign up for this show.
For an 80s dress, that needed no redo and fit her just fine. It looked modern enough, just needed a few touches. Not THIS.
The 80's one for SUREE. That's not even a question. It has a backstory, saves money and looks better in my opinion. If it was just cleaned and fitted it would be great. I would KILL for that dress :( they don't even have to fix it. In my opinion.
Chari i personally don't like the old dress, so i guess the bride had a different opinion as well.
Chari same 😢
I don't understand why mothers want their daughters to marry in their wedding dress. Don't get it.
Ivana Pesic - wait you’re going to wear your mums dress despite her not wanting you too?
Sophie - Trafotoz She just wants me to know that I have choice and no pressure or demands from her part about my choice (unlike some mother that expect their daughters to listen to their wishes about dress). I will 100% wear that dress the day I get married because I love the style and how it fits me and it is the one if I can be cliche.
Ivana Pesic - not cliche at all, I love “the one” & think it’s a beautiful phrase💜 and when you know it’s the one, you know!
Where did she learn designing? 😑😑
Mom should have let her pick her own dress for her own very special occasion!
Agreed
Hello, that's exactly why this show offers a choice? Mother would like daughter to wear her dress, daughter doesn't want that, and this show first of all offers a compromise by altering mum's dress to something the bride might actually wear, and second of all gives her a choice between something old or something new, and obviously the something new is something they picked themselves. The mums on this show understand that their daughter might not pick their dress even after the compromising alterations. This is the concept of the show. This is what they agree on to be part of the show.
if that was my old wedding dress, i would have sobbed at the first snip!
The dress was so beautiful before omg they ruined it
The original dress was beautiful and it looked much much better on the girl. I don't think they should have ruined the mothers dress plus the mom looked like it broke her heart to have it cut. The end result didn't even resemble the mothers wedding dress. I think it is a shame that they altered it.
nooo, the transformation is horrible, the before dress is far away better
Oh hell no that was one of the most beautiful dresses I’ve ever seen...HOW do you even make something so stunning look so tacky
Looks like they bought it on Wish or something
Mom's dress was beautiful and mom looked gorgeous!!!!
Sorry but I think the 80's dress is very beautiful... I love the high neck... Too bad they took it away :(
Me too. I actually like it with the high neck its so beautiful and timeless.
The dress is classic.
That mom must be heartbroken right now.....
If she had just let her daughter wear the dress she bought she'd still have her old dress intact.
Also she should have gotten a new dress not destroy her moms heart
That's the thing. SHE HAS A NEW DRESS. Her mother's was borrowed. :(
She should have said no very firmly to hte old dress in the beginning, it would have been the kindest thing to do. Just laundered it and maybe taken a photo in it for comparison.
The vintage dress was beautiful!!! It compliments her pretty face.
The redone dress looked super cheap with the satin and looked very ill-fitting around the torso.
They took away all the best elements of the old dress - if it had been properly fitted to her body it would've looked beautiful without any more modification. The new new dress is a boring, cookie cutter bridal style.
Deirdre McMahon you could tell the bride was not happy in her mother’s dress (especially in its original state). She’s happier in the new dress.
Wow ..mom was bomb when young
I know this sounds weird but I hate the new version of the old dress, I prefer the original way more!!
Everyone involved in "remaking" that dress should be blacklisted from the fashion industry
agreed
"I saw myself" It's not you though... it is your daughter. Stop trying to make her relive your day and let her have her own. Seems pretty selfish.
It absolutely is selfish and childish.
Caitlyn Dicroce that’s my teacher and her husband teaches at the same school as her and true!
Agree!

When does a mother own their child? It seems like parents are just free charity... never becoming a parent.
Why did they get rid of the beautiful neckline?! Once she removed that lace on the neck it was so beautiful on her. The new dress is very unflattering.
The daughter didn't want the lace.
I seriously like the original dress much better than the after version
Gosh I hate the old dress that was turned into new. Ughh. Destroyed she destroyed it.
This is totally different and not a good kind of different"
The bride then awkwardly adjusted the neckline of the dress, trying to hide the discomfort at how ugly the dress turned out to be, and laughed trying to fill that awkward silence. The mom's face is horrified. Horrified.
I'm sorry but that new dress looks kinda cheap 😕
If the mother wasn't so selfish and insistent on her daughter wearing her dress she would still have her wedding dress. Even when her daughter came out wearing her dress all she she said was that she saw herself in it. You could tell that cutting up the dress was tramatic for her since she was crying. She's lucky she got the wedding dress that she wanted. She should've let her daughter have the same luxury of getting the dress she wanted.
Hermione Granger you heard the daughter... It was the daughter's choice
.....the dress was borrowed though. What's the point of having TWO NEW DRESSES?! Poor mum will never be the same.
Her mother was guilt-tripping her.
The original dress was so much prettier :o
Mom should have let her daughter get her own wedding dress! They just ruined it! The dress turned out hilarious! Even worse. No offence🤷🏻♀️
Karolina was right.
Am I the only one who loved the original dress exactly how it was?!
what a shame - they messed too much with the dress. Shoulder straps too long for girl, unfitted to her shape. awful
Oh my goodness! The mom looked absolutely beautiful on her wedding day! Love the dress, gloves, hat, hair, everything!
The mom had HER moment, she should let her daughter to have hers.
Imagine the first dress with a cathedral veil...the new one makes me want to scream. Poor mum.
Great Halloween costume !
I like the old one better 🤔 you could tell the mom didn't like that idea of changing her dress
Should've stopped after cutting top piece,
The original one was more pretty and elegant
I actually really like the old one as a whole with all the craftsmanship, the mom had good taste, it feels very georgian-era dress like pride and prejudice /bridgerton, a style that some modern brides choosed to wear. The bride could've just clean it and have a theme photoshoot in her moms dress.
these "designers" should be in fashion jail for ruining those beautiful 80's dress.😡😡 the only thing that you maybe had to get rid of was the higher neck, the rest was perfect as is was
😂anyone else notice... the mom said “I wore my dress 31 years ago” and then her daughter said “my mom wore her dress 20 years ago now” ???
