- We take a look at The Police's Synchronicity Box Set. Often said to be The Police's greatest album what does the box set from the Synchronicity sessions reveal about the bands working dynamic during the album's recording.
Very interesting and knowledgeable overview. 👍
the police amazing band and a great cd box set. cheers from downunder
Great honest review! Saying it like it is is always a good thing. I thought the text in the book revealed nothing. You would have thought that the whole point of going through the archives and compiling a box set was an opportunity to get information details about how it was created, but no.
[I would hope they ask someone like Rick Beato to interview them and write the text for the book accompanying the box set for the Ghost in the Machine album :) ]
I also was wondering why they bothered including live tracks from previous years with material from previous albums? Ok, they were released as extra B side material to tracks from the Synchronicity album but are anachronistic for the purpose of this box set. That always bugs me...
Reproducing the pages of the tour programme as thumbnails in the book was lazy. They could have just reproduced the actual programme and add it to the 4 lithographs, adding more stuff in the book. I personally would have loved to see photos of them recording the album, there are no photos of them at all in the studio in Montserrat. Or even from the world tour for that matter!
Now at 4:40 you mention that there is no demo for Walking in Your Footsteps (which I wondered about) and you will elaborate later but you don't... So what is that all about?
From around 7 minutes he elaborates about why there is no Walking in Your Footsteps demo.
@@SlimLineBuddha Thanks. I missed that bit. :)
Zenyatta was my first album I bought with my own money in 1980, aged 12. I like Synchronicity but it feels overproduced to my ears, as does Ghost in the Machine (which I also love) The drum sound on Zenyatta is still the best I’ve ever heard. It’s so crisp and snappy.
It’s their most commercially accessible album.
