I used to love sitting on the highway between 4:30 and 6 am. I didn't pull over many cars, mainly the 95 plus crowd. Got a 120 once. I only stopped that guy because he let me haha. But I would check to see how long it took for me to pop up on the app. I wasn't worried about getting stops but I knew if I was reported it would encourage people to slow down. My department has worked quite a few fatalities on that stretch of highway and I can tell you it sucks being the guy to show up at a strangers house to tell them that their loved one died. Also, radars are easy to beat 🤣
I can imagine how tough that is to tell a stranger that their loved one is no longer here. You sound like the kind of Police Officer that people respected and at one point kids looked up to and said "one day I wanna bea cop". Those days are over for most kids now, too bad there's not more officers that come to work to do a legitimate job. Most of us appreciate n respect Officers that respect the citizens. I was in school to be a pastor and saw some local police do some pretty crappy things to people. I figured I could help be a part of the solution and joined. I want to serve God by serving people. If more people looked at police work as an opportunity to make people's lives better rather looking at it as an opportunity to have power we would see a difference in how things are. I have faith we are headed in the right direction, its going to take some time though for the old ways of doing things to die out.
@Jr I think it ebbs and flows. Police figure out a way to catch them and they find a better way to get away. Then the cycle repeats itself. As long as we have imperfect people in the world both parties will exist. If we could truly overhaul the system towards reforming people instead of punishing them we could maybe see a change.

if a cop goes to pull me over I just called 911 and report a man beating a woman around the corner he has to respond to the call first so he'll leave me on the side of the road to go try to save this woman and when he shows up and she's not there they can't do anything to me because they can't prove that I didn't see it
Same here, just leave it in standby and watch for the person really flying down the road, activate the radar, hit lock, and get them. I've seen though that some radar companies will pay the fine if a person gets a ticket. Also, that's why we run multiple officers in a call rotation. If I call traffic the next officer in the rotation goes to the domestic.

@Richard Paige III I understand where you are coming from and I would say it will depend on the agency. For example, I work for a "midsized" agency in Texas. We have 30 officers and typically run 3 patrol officers and a supervisor per shift. We do not have a traffic unit and we make traffic stops when the call load allows. For example, in one shift I could take 10 calls, write 5 reports, and only make 3 or 4 traffic stops in a 12 hour shift. With that in mind, when patrolling I would have to make sure I am avaliable to take calls when they pop up, if I am on the highway stuck in traffic it could cause issues with me being avaliable to take a call when needed. Larger cities have traffic units that can devote themselves to these kinds of things. Small cities may have 1 or 2 officers on a shift with no supervisor but they, in theory, should have a small enough call load to run traffic throughout their shift. I think a common misconception is that police officers use their entire shift to make traffic stops because the average person is most likely to come into contact with an officer on a stop, but in reality traffic stops are a small part of what we typically do during the day. I would love it if there were enough of us to be able to curb the general public's driving habits to make life safer for everyone but I don't know if that will happen anytime soon.
