I agree! It's fun to see what your landing looks like from outside the airplane.

Thanks. It's a nice airport with a pretty approach over the sound.

That was a much better landing than I had with you in the plane! Great video!!!

I don't remember a bad landing. I remember a fantastic airplane and a guy who voluntarily spent his entire time helping someone else.

1:00 I've made so many embarrassing calls, I'm not gonna judge. Except "any traffic in the area, please advise", which causes me to smile.
Nice landing, love that Chris got the footage of you.

Thanks. It's funny how the landing from outside looks quite a bit better than it does from inside.

Lol I use "last call" all the time, but I've never taken a runway before. I've also said "good night" to a CTAF that nobody was listening to.

As my close friends hear from me all the time: you do you, fam.
I only brought it up in the flight to explain to my wife why I was laughing. My CFI had a strong opinion on this topic, so I tend to not use "last call" or "taking" but I understand the intention of those who use them.

@@1dullgeek As long as you're not saying "any traffic in the area, please advise" I'm good with most non-standard physiology. Sometimes it's the only way to say what you're trying to say. I get more upset about the "bar is closed, last call" because it's unnecessarily using up far more comm time than "taking" or "last call" ever would.

@@thebadgerpilot Totally agree. But it was funny.
And "any traffic in the pattern please advise" is specifically called out in the AIM as not to be used.

This is my arrival with my wife into the OBX Fly-in hosted by @Midlife Pilot. I really love being able to see my own landing from outside the airplane. So far, other people have only managed to film my good landings. I'd like to see a bad one, too.

someone recorded a landing and posted it to tiktok over the weekend. it was the smoothest landing I've ever had. Usually my worst landings are when someone else witnesses it!

Nice landing-idk if there is a 'defined' or FAA approved way of talking meaning is it unapproved to say anything differently? It still though beats me that one has to 'figure out' what ATC speaks at the pace they speak- seems ancient from WW2 era ( am opening up can of worms with this) Interpreting that garbled; mumbling and staccato talking is supposed to make you become 'in' the community or maybe cool!! no wonder GA is still so mysterious and therefore cannot really become General Aviation.. IMHO

      Thanks.
My CFI always said that if it isn't in the AIM, it's wrong. See: AIM 4.2: www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/aim_html/chap4_section_2.html
I don't share his opinion. But I do try to stick to what the AIM says.
As far as ATC, I'm a frequent user of "Say again, for 74W". The 2nd time they typically slow down. I'm getting better at understanding them as I gain experience.

@@1dullgeek I am inspired by you and @Midlife Pilot... I understand what your CFI says- though the AIM does say "The single, most important thought in pilot‐controller communications is understanding'; AND "Since concise phraseology may not always be adequate, use whatever words are necessary to get your message across" AND of course "Brevity is important". Thanks for all your videos.
