    Jenny, this is an adorable little train. Something to note, if Rapido UK is like their Canadian cousins, then there may be some hidden "Easter Egg" sounds in the higher functions (F20-F28). Some of their North American models come with various sounds, some just silly (lines from the TV Show "Star Trek" or Monty Python - "I don't like spam!"), or songs from the railroad associated with the model (My New Have EP-5 electric has commercial jingles from the railroad's advertisements). You may want to try your Thunderbolt to see if there are any such sounds hiding in it as well.

    Watched your excellent review and as a consequence I went out to purchase the deluxe version from my local retailer in Leigh. I can say your report was spot on. The model is a very good runner and the box set is certainly worth every penny I paid. Many thanks.

    The "making of The Titfield Thunderbolt" book should be put out on general sale, it would sell really well. How about it Rapido?

    Lovely !!
    I do regret the sound quality on DCC though. Sorry I’m a bit of an audiophile « rivet counter » - depth of sound is important to me but I really see no way of making miniature speakers like this sound better. I guess we also have to take into account the limitations of the original sound track recordings of the 1950’s. While running, sound quality is respectable, but spoken dialogue is really distorted and reminds me of my brother’s first Panasonic transistor radio back in the early ‘70’s (around the same time as « clunk, click, every trip 😉)
    The only way to get good sound is still a big speaker.

    • @JenniferEKirk
      @JenniferEKirk  11 місяців тому

      Often it has to be a compromise on speaker size, though speaker design is getting really good.

      Maybe someone could develop a separate DCC enabled subwoofer to install on the layout. And maybe put speakers and separate sound decoders in wagons and coaches.

      I have very narrow ear canals. Probably suboptimal hearing all my life and needed hifi audio to hear clearly. Only realised it was hairy narrow ears quite recently, age 68, as age related hearing loss exacerbated it.
      Got an expensive (£40) ear hair trimmer - brilliant, now hearing aids get in deep enough to work! Volume is almost irrelevant for me. CLARITY is key. Even NHS hearing aids do Bluetooth streaming. Maybe something involving Bluetooth for hearing aids or hifi earbuds would be the next stage for development. After all, a lot of model railway enthusiasts are of an age where hearing deteriorates, even with normally wide ear canals

    I wonder why they used the magnets on the Toad but not Dan’s House?

    • @JenniferEKirk

      It is an interesting point. I don’t know.

    • @RapidoTrainsUK
      @RapidoTrainsUK 11 місяців тому +2

      Simply - space. The magnets have to sit vertically (look at the toad) if you do that on Dans house they obscure the windows and spoil the wonderful interior!

    Hi Jenny, it's is great little train pack with very good decorations and livery application 😀... though this is a 'rivet counter' comment - the chimney stack on the coach roof doesn't line up with bezer stack in the coach...!!!!!

    • @RapidoTrainsUK
      @RapidoTrainsUK 11 місяців тому +2

      That’s because it’s modelled accurately - the real coach was made in several sections with interchangeable bits - through the film the chimney often changes sides and moves out of place with the prop inside…

      @@RapidoTrainsUK I live near the Camerton branch line where the film was made. Some of the scenes where filmed with the train heading east (leaving the station, stopping at the water tower, joining the main line) and some where it's heading west (the cricket pitch). I think the coach chimney might be on the wrong side because they turned the loco and guards van around but not the coach.
      I have have just spent this afternoon looking over my Deluxe Edition and it is, without a doubt, the best model in my collection now. Well done!

    With a big enough stay alive could you recreate the scene when the thunderbolt drove down the roads?

    • @hollyruston2444
      @hollyruston2444 11 місяців тому +1

      It was a 14xx which "drove" down the road, not Thunderbolt. You're welcome 😊

    The SECR 01 is begging for a crew. Either a deluxe model with a crew in the box or perhaps a redeemable code from modelU for a driver and fireman of your choice. That way if you buy multiple models you don't have the same copy and paste crew.

    Hmm - I cannot, honestly, get interested in era 1 locos etc. But, hopefully, many folks will. Good luck to Rapido with this. Superb design on the box btw. Actually, I might buy it because I used to work at the studios. Damn

      Technically the Rapido Lions are era 3 and 7 because they represent the 1930s and 1980s restorations - it would have looked very different in era 1. And I think the Titfield movie takes place in era 6?

    Hi from sunny Scotland 😅, great video, I loved the Titfield Thunderbolt and seeing this train it looks amazing, I'm sure that I remember reading that one of the cast had either worked on the railway or was a railway enthusiast,does it mention anything about that in the book.Cheers Colin

      With S&D 200 coming up, chaldron waggons selling well already, original period railways will be hot stuff soon. Remember Mike Sharman's layouts? @@JenniferEKirk
